'So Galtea, you are telling me this is a distorted world on its countdown for destruction? Does it really have no real bearing on the grand scheme of things honestly? I seriously doubt that!' I just couldn't believe it. No way this place was gonna collapse. Especially with all the power here.

Galtea: For the last time it will not matter for you right now. Just compete well. Got it?

'Sure.' Not wanting to keep getting into it with her, I focused on the arena that was before us. "So what do you think? Gale." Gale was her code name here. I found it fitting. She said it was belittling a little. Considering how Riku moved like the wind at times, I thought about changing it to Typhoon.

Riku grinned at me. Before pinching my side. "Not a problem Master Mist! When are you going to get better for you can actually use Ice properties?"

I feined pain grabbing at my chest. "Ouch so hostile. It was better than the alternative. I dont want to call you Typhoon. It is so... manly."

"I am not manly. But look at these guns." Riku pointed at her biceps. "Only babes that look like me can look this good and bench press a Krogan."

"Right." Smiling at her antics, I couldn't help but stare at her. I finally turned away and paid attention to the end of the speech. "This is not bearing well for them at all. Look at all the fighter's over there."

"The final compet.i.tion to determine the fate of all Edinian's shall begin. Your Highness Jerrod, choose your combatants." The referee said neutrally. He was a robed figure with no real facial features showing. His body looked frail from the robes really. Like they threaten to drag him to the ground from the weight.

Jerrod looked to his fighters wearily. Since his prized team was killed in the first Kombat. a lot of the other fighters did not even wish to partic.i.p.ate. He called on an old pact with Earthrealm and asked for volunteers. The only ones to fight or answer the call were the Lin Kuei.

"Grandmaster, what say you? Will you allow your people to fight on our behalf?" Jerrod asked with the respect of a King but still slightly pleading.

The Grandmaster watched for a moment before his eyes glazed over. Staring at Jerrod he felt confliction. Steeling his old resolve, he responded to his old friend, "I am sorry but we must depart." Not waiting to hear any statements. a Dragon Gate opened behind him and he walked through. One by one the different Lin Kuei factions followed. Sektor stepped forward.

"I do not know what came over grandfather," he said fl.u.s.tered. "But I will get him to come back. There is no way he would just abandon you all." Following behind the others he left. Only ones left were Sub-Zero, Tundra, Frost, Azul, and Riku.

King Jerrod looked towards Bi-Han bowing. "Thank you for honoring my request." He didn't know what to do if this kept up.. his entire realm would be under the rule of Shao Khan. His eyes looked to his wife and daughter. More than anything, if they could be spared... if the Elder G.o.ds answered wishes. He would have them spared this fate at least.

"Tundra you go first," Bi-Han said authoritatively. He was very confident in his younger brother's victory.

"As you wish," Tundra said smoothly. His cheekbones could be seen having risen a little. He was definitely happy for this chance to show off.

"You got this!" Frost cheered with excitement. Realizing her current company she piped down immediately after. Riku just snickered at the girl.

Stepping into the arena, Tundra bowed to his opponent. His opponent did not return his greeting.

"Fight!" The referee said before stepping out.

With a charging strike, Tundra's opponent swung towards the latter's midsection. With a block with his palm, Tundra stabbed down at the a.s.sailant's forearm. I saw a small then line of ice energy travel outward. The a.s.sailant's arm then dangled lifelessly to the side. With a quick palm thrust to the chest, his opponent was down.

"Kuff, kuff," the man coughed trying to get up. He was having trouble breathing. Standing halfway up, he was then knocked back down from a leg sweep from Tundra.

In a second a small ice sword was pointed at his neck. "Yield!"

"I yield!" The man said quickly before scampering out the arena.

"The winner Tundra!" The referee said to small applause from the Edinian's side.

Riku jumped into the ring. "I am next! Let's do this."

A man with dreadlocks walked into the arena next. He stared at Riku before his eyes started to glow with electricity. "I am going to enjoy breaking you girl!" He said quite angrily if I had to say so. "I am Koyat."

"Heh, bigger and better than you have tried. Yet here I am still standing." Riku said tauntingly. Her hood covered her head as her mask rose up covering to her eyes. "You came just in time, I needed to try something." Sliding her left foot back behind her, I couldn't tell what pose she entered. But it would be formidable I hope. "The name is Gale."

"Ready... begin." The referee said stepping out quickly. He moved further from Riku. I guess he could feel the power.

Koyat charged out with a side karate chop. Riku moved to the side and strung his wrist. She then tapped at the elbow. Small squirts of blood came out. It dripped onto the dirt forming little droplets. Riku then stepped behind him and struck for his exposed ribcage. Her strike was extremely slow for some reason.

Koyat pivoted on his back heel. His other foot kicked off the front and turned into a knee strike. His knee caught Riku in her palm.

"Krack," someone's bone broke. It was Koyat's by that expression on his face. Hoping back a little he stood wobbly. "What are you made of girl?!" He said indignantly. When the strike touched, it felt if he hit solid steel.

"Not telling," Riku said. Despite the mask, I could hear the humor in her voice slightly. Taking a step forward she stopped. She flexed her hand before shaking it off. Next thing I knew a sandy whip came out the ground grabbing her leg. "What the heck?!" She said alarmed. She pulled her foot a little before she looks to see Koyat swinging at her with a blood whip with his good arm.

"Hyah!" Koyat screamed when his whip came down. In a split second, it spits into multiple raining down from above.

"Splat," the b.l.o.o.d.y whips broke apart on Riku. Scattering all over the ground. It did little to no damage. Besides her clothes, she remained uninjured mostly. I say mostly because she looked offended in a way. Koyat looked as if he was staring at a monster. "How... how did that do nothing?!"

Riku flexed her energy along with her wind power. The energy pushed the blood up, while the wind diced it apart. In less than three seconds all the blood in the area was gone. Now freed she floated above the ground about an inch.

Koyat realized his mistake in stopping the attack. Running his hand along his dangling forearm, he cut it open realizing more blood. Something about Riku scared him more than before. He looked closely at her ready to defend at a moments notice. Spotting the flickering light in her eyes, he took a step back in fear.

Shao Khan was not pleased from his seat. With a nod of his head, an under-ling moved away to the side.

Feeling slightly off-put by this, I release my Pyscho/Soul power. Taking in the biotic strands slowly from the different people in the audience. Unknown to me, the Eldar sword appeared out.

A slight hum ringing out from it drew the attention of Frost, who stared at it before looking back at the fight.

Riku rushed in disappearing from my unfocused view. She appeared behind the man before striking his spine.

"Krackkk," the sound of bones breaking in the arena could be heard. Followed by a bunch of gasps from the crowd. "Gasp!" How powerful is she a bunch of people said? I could see some on Shao Khan's side appraising Riku. A lot of them had started to get weird ideas in their head. Dumb on them anyway.

Stumbling forward, Koyat turned onto his back breathing in pain. His chest heaving up and down slowly. "Please.. dont... I have .. family." He begged.

"Didn't you say you were gonna break me?" Riku said dangerously as she floated over to him.

"I... was bluffing." He said, in an almost whimpering voice. I didn't believe him for a second. The man was lying no doubt about it. Riku then landed on the ground and walked past him. Koyat smiled and lifted his good arm up.

I felt a strange increase in the magic within the crowd. Seeing the attendant eyes from earlier glowing I fired at his direction. 'Lv1 85/150 Concussive Shot!' The aquatic missile flew up, an over the barrier of the arena striking the man in the chest. On contact, it exploded blasting a hole in his chest.

"Riku!" I yelled. She turned to see a large wave of b.l.o.o.d.y whips come at her. Each of the strikes moved deadly fast. Eliciting a strange sound as if ripping the air apart. Riku body disappeared in the various strikes. I could no longer make out her image.

Staring at Shao Khan I shouted. "You cheating b.a.s.t.a.r.d!" He just grinned at my response. I forgot how much a d.i.c.k he was. I actually started to dislike him now. Looking back at the arena, I watched as the attack finally settled down. Only thing left a piece of Riku's clothing. Frost tensed next to me. Tundra balled his fist. Sub-Zero stood calmly.

"Hehehe," Koyat cackled. "Stupid girl honestly think I was done with." Standing up, he spits in Riku's clothing remains. His body morphed with blood and returned to normal. "Should not have dropped your guard."

"You are right. It is dumb to drop your guard. I was just giving you a chance." Riku voice could be heard but I didn't see her till she rose from the ground. slowly the wind formed togethor till it made her image. She looked out of breath. "Huff.. huff.. that took a lot out of me. But not enough for me to lose."

With a curve of her hand, she swung down. A large part of Koyat's chest ripped off. The man screamed b.l.o.o.d.y murder this time. "Aaaaahhh! I yield. I yield!" He said. Riku stepped back watching him.

The referee called the match. Shao Khan then stepped up smacking his chair. "Kill that coward! Finish him!" He said in uncontrollable anger.

Riku looked to me then towards the man. Her eyes sparked a bit before she stepped forward. She grabbed him by the mouth and threw him in the air. She then walked to the end of the ring and stopped. She stared at Shao Khan and closed her fist. Koyat body fell to the ground. But before touching it, his skin ripped off from invisible blades. Then his muscles started to tear apart. His bones followed suit with nothing remaining. Riku stopped and looked at me.

I smiled at her. "Good fight. You ok?" She smiled and then collapsed against me.

"Just really tired. Really sleepy." Riku yawned cutely. She grabbed me even tighter. "Let's go home. I don't trust these Edinian's."

"I cant make that call. But if it gets dangerous I will grab you and we will haul tail it out of here." Seeing her smile, I looked at Bi-Han. "Do you think it wise we stay here helping them?"

"Yes. I think we can manage." He looked to Tundra then to Frost. "You two see to her." Looking back at me he looked me up and down before whispering in my ear. "We have to win. I cannot break the pact. Unlike the Grandmaster that left, we still have our honor. Once we win I will get the Dragon bracelet and return back home with it. Considering how the Grandmaster has the Dragon Medallion, the bracelet residing with our faction will be in safer hands."

"Understood," I said agreeing mostly. I know of the medallion but not of any bracelet. I hope there are not a lot of these b.l.o.o.d.y things. I was pulled from my thoughts when the referee said to choose your next fighter.

I looked at Bi-Han before walking into the arena. My hand pa.s.sed over Riku's head. I cast a small heal spell just in case.

A member of the Shokan stepped forward. It was a male of their race but slightly different than the others. A woman behind him wearing a crown placed her two left hands on him. She whispered something before releasing him.

Stepping into the ring he looked at Shao Kahn with a wane smile and bowed. Turning to our side he announced, "I am Kintaro of the Tigrar Shokan."

"I Mist of the Lin Kuei will fight," I said looking out at Shao Khan defiantly. Reaching down I fixed my mask tightly. I a.s.sumed the modified stance of the Lin Kuei and my own fighting style. 'Lv3 81/100 Misty Fist.' Activating I felt an increase in its power and movement. That is when I noticed the sword. 'How did that get on me?'

"Begin!" The referee called. Kintaro jumped in the air. Coming down in a stomp I barely managed to jump to the side out of the way. Rolling in the sand I stood up. Kintaro was already in my face swinging at me. Dodging both of his left claw swipes, I didnt evade the right ones.

"Krack, crack," My ribs broke instantly.

Health -26

"Gasp," the wind was knocked out of me. I felt my lungs work harder for me to breath. That blow had rattled me to the core. The second blow is the only reason I believe I didn't blackout. Sending out a left jab I caught his side. Small scratches appeared along the length of his side fur. With his hands coming down for a double-tap I threw up my biotic s.h.i.+eld. 'Lv5 321 /370 Biotic s.h.i.+elding'

Soon as it made contact it almost ruptured. I slid back in the sand. pulling my hand back I fired an aquatic concussive shot. It hit against his wrist guard breaking it. Charging back in I ducked his arm strike. When the next came I jumped forward and using his own arm strength, I jumped off them and kicked him in the face. I barely saw his health dwindle.

"Bam!" He stepped back only one step. That is when I realized I messed up. While still in the air he grabbed my other foot. "Oh c.r.a.p!" With a hard pull, he slammed me on to the ground. Once, twice, three times before I kicked his hands getting free.

I broke my biotic s.h.i.+elding sending the energy back into myself. A slight heal to help me focus again. my health only rose slightly.

Health 24

Seeing his charge, I did the same. 'Lv 3 38/500 Adrenaline Rush' with its help I moved my misty fist to my feet. When his four strikes came I moved to the side of them. He whirled around in a pursuit. Bending down I avoided his backhand swings. Sliding forward I delivered a physic punch to his gut.

System: Strength Check Succesful 26

"Oof," he grunted and stepped back. This time two steps.

Egging on my adrenaline rush I pushed my a.s.sault. I sent my mist fist to the tips of my hands and started to lay into him. "Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam," I rained as many blows as I was able to before my adrenaline rush ran out. "Gasp," taking a deep breath was a bad move. I should have pushed harder. But my sense slowed me down for some reason.

Kintaro's hands came down from above. His top arms picked me up from my shoulders. I wiggled making it difficult for him to keep his grip. His two bottom arms grabbed my legs and broke them both.

"Krack!" There was only one echo. He manages to break both at the same time.

System: Const.i.tution Check Succesful 27

I didn't even cry out. I could feel Riku's worry. Tundra and Frost felt scared. Bi-Han only watched. Channeling my biotics I fired at his stomach when my cooldown drop. The concussive shot came out way more powerful than before. My Pyscho/Soul power was getting stronger as we fought.

"Boom!" The shot was strong enough to cause him to release his grip on my shoulders. He still held on to my legs though. That was fine by me. I leaned forward and boxed his ears.

"Pap!" He let me go and grabbed at his ears with his bottom hands. Landing on the ground I channeled my rune magic to heal my legs. The bones healed up instantly. Another grab like that and I would be in trouble.

Standing up I was greeted by a fireball to the face. It hit me dead on and caused me to slid across the arena . I made it to the outline before stopping. Getting up I watched as Kintaro moved towards me slowly. His stomach was cut open and blood dripped down his side. I could see a little of his stomach outline.

"Huff... huff..d.a.m.n your tough." Looking at him wobbly, I stood my ground. "I forgot you were the stronger fighter out of you and Gorro." Hearing me say that his eyes dilated before returning to normal.

Staring over his head, I saw the life bar was only at the halfway mark. But the outline was red with a skull. I knew I should not have fought him. He is way above my level and as dangerous as h.e.l.l.

"Rooaar," Kintaro growl as he charged towards me. The ground-shaking with each step of his. Reactivating adrenaline rush I moved and dodged to the side. I could feel myself becoming angry. I felt weak again. My Pyscho power was having none of that. Within a second it was pushed away. I felt like I was back in the mine shaft again. My health bar went back up.

Health 50

When Kintaro came down with a double pound of his bottom arms, I barely moved out of the way and struck back quick and deadly at the wrists.

"Krack," I broke them both. I didn't stop there. I grabbed them immediately and twist them as I pulled him down. Sending a concussive shot out, I separated it and hit both his feet. It was not strong enough to damage but was strong enough to disrupt his balance. With the pulling momentum, he came forward and down. Pulling the physic energy from my surroundings I sent a haymaker to his jaw.

"Kraacck," his face did not break but my hand did. The muscle tore and the bone stuck out. My swing was so strong I felt my shoulder and core strain in pain.

"Uggh," I groaned. Standing wobbly, I did my best to stay on my feet. I was surprised when I looked at Kintaro. He was back on his feet but was out cold. A little blood trickled from his lips.

"Finish him!" Shao Khan yelled.

I looked out at the crowd. The natives cheered for me to finish him. But the Shokan looked worried, My biotic strands went out I could feel they enjoyed the fight. They were proud of Kintaro and me. They just didn't wish to see either of us die.

System: Willpower Check Succesful 26

I looked at Kintaro and bowed. "Thank you for the fight! I learned a lot. I hope we can fight again someday." Walking to the side I looked at the referee. "Call it!" I demanded. My Pyscho power was.h.i.+ng over him. Daring him to disobey. I felt the warmth of my sword go out in the arena causing the crowd to become silent.

"The Winner! Mist of the Lin Kuei!"

Walking away I heard the ringing of a level up and a few other things. I was too tired to check them. Circulating my energies I focused on healing. I could feel the sword helping me.

"The referee came to the center and said some things before the tournament ended. We followed the locals back to the castle. Members of Shao Khan's followed along as well. In the back, I saw a cage that was quite ma.s.sive. Anytime I sent my sense out to check it was blocked. I wanted to question Galtea. But she was asleep. She said left a message saying she was recalibrating the System.

As the day ended night came. as I rested in my chambers, Riku came over. She looked hurried and was dressed in black.

"We have to go now!" She said before turning to leave. You knew I would follow along.

Chasing after I was surprised to see a bunch of dead members of the palace guard.

"What is going on Riku?" I asked quietly when I made it to her. Instinctively my training as Lin Kuei kicked in. As we moved I barely made a sound.

"Shao Khan forces have invaded. They used some bulls.h.i.+t about you firing the shot off during my battle as cheating. So my match was disqualified. With that loss, it was enough for them to declare themselves the winner."

"But I one my match. So did Tundra."

"I know. But they had your fight declared a draw. With that being said.." Riku stopped and moved her back against the wall. I followed suit. A few members of Shao Khan's annihilation squad ran past. My eyes observed them quickly getting the levels. Each was in green and only level 15. A silver star behind the names. "Ok, let us go."

"The others have already escaped. Bi-Han almost lost an arm getting me out of the throne room. I should have done like you and went to recover instead."

"Glad you are ok. Them as well. So now what do we do?" I asked following along. Feeling a tug I remember the last time I felt that. I grabbed Riku by the hand. "Follow me this way."

"Where are we headed to now?"

"I do not know. I am getting pulled this way. Last time this happened I found a good thing. At least I think it was." Feeling Riku's agitation at my response I was getting ready to say something but stopped myself. We made it toward a room with a bunch of cages. It was the ones I saw before.

My eyes scanned the room at the corpses. I saw one that stood out. Inside a cage was Jade. But her body had been cut up by somebody. I could see a Sai sticking from her chest.

"Over here!" Riku exclaimed. "I found a survivor."

Walking over I saw Mileena. She was dressed in the same clothing as Jade. I hadn't the foggiest idea of what was going on.

Galtea: I am back online and ready to get started. I can see the world is already moving along in trying to correct itself. Glad you and Riku are ok. Didnt have to use the escape protocols.

'What escape protocols?' I said to her. Moving to Miellena I felt the fear she felt. I couldn't make sense of it so I channeled my Mental Cleansing to try to help her. She stirred in my arms before her eyes opened. She struggled then relaxed with a wave of psychic energy. "We are not here to hurt you."

System: Charisma Check Succesful 17

She smiled before relaxing completely. Riku moved about the place. Checking bodies and the like. No one else made it from what I could tell.

Galtea: They are safety measures to make sure you do not die If we are disconnected. I made sure to upgrade them in case something like before happened. Finish up what you are doing it is time for you to depart.

"Ok. Riku come on. It is time to go." I stood up holding Mileena close to me. My Soul power went out and connected with her. Slowly I received her history of what happened to her. I left that for later.

"So are you.. keeping.. her?" Riku asked as she pointed. She was pointing at the teeth that showed. She felt uneasy about them. But just because they were so dangerous. Which to me made perfect sense.

"I am helping her out. We can.." I started to say before a gate opened behind us. Galtea beckoned us inside. Stepping in, I watched as we kinds just floated in black s.p.a.ce. I could see stars and the like floating out and around. Glad we were not close to any of it.

"It is time for you to know what happens to fracture worlds. Look that way." Galtea gloved hand pointed to the galaxy before us.

I stared outward. The view reminded of a sinkhole. In the center, all the stars and light for that matter continued to head towards the center. The few planets and different temples that floated in the open broke down into little particles. My biotics went into overdrive. The biotic strands screamed in pain at the suffering.

System: Wisdom Check Unsuccessful 23

With my Psyhco/Soul power active, I was able to tolerate what I saw. In mere moments Universe collapsed. It was scary beyond measure. But also oddly beautiful.

A few seconds later the sinkhole disappeared. Replaced by a white light. Slowly planets left the light as well as new temple structures. Galtea closed the gate afterward.

"What happen just then?" I asked unable to really comprehend it.

"That was the birth of its successor. I believe you would call it Mortal Kombat 10. Do not worry we will not enter there. It will take awhile before it stabilizes and catches up with its timeline." Galtea racked her head side to side in thought. "Oh. About time we get a chance to go there it will have enter Mortal Kombat 11. You are gonna miss a lot."

"Well just ... no that is ok. I rather not go anyway."

"My Khan I would like to return one day," Mileena said staring at me. She honestly looks like a kitten. Ok, maybe a sabertooth tiger. But you get what I mean. "I want to show them I was no mistake!"

"Very well. You will have to get a lot stronger by then." Seeing her start to snooze, I looked at Riku. "Well back to Ma.s.s Effect. Then your world. Hope you are ready."

Galtea then returned us back to the s.h.i.+p. Almost no time had pa.s.sed. Maybe a few minutes. Setting Mileena on a spare table, I gave her an injection of basic antibiotics to help her along.

System: Wisdom increase by 5

My magic fluctuated a little bit before calming down. I felt a lot more powerful. But I was not in control of it. I looked at my stats.

"Holy... moley..."
