Speaking for the first time since separating from the spotter and sniper, "5 miles". Her answering response was one click. She found this amusing. She had heard Hal and the famous marine sniper Eagle climb up to their sniper's nest. She knew their exact position. She could only scent them with great difficulty because of the wind direction. But Ivar wouldn't smell, see or hear them. Rather than fight Ivar and add another b.l.o.o.d.y memory to her long list; she had wanted a clean kill. Or as clean as a machine gun could.
"One mile" A deep sigh escaped as she stood. She took out the communicator and threw it aside. Facing the direction Ivar would come to her, in just a moment he appeared. Ivar was half changed. He was running full out in a form that was human and half wolf. No one seeing this would confuse him as anything other than a werewolf. Except maybe a bigfoot; yeah he could pa.s.s for a weird sasquatch, thought Cally. Ivar was running on all fours in a manner similar to what you would expect to see if you watched horror movies. He was moving fast, straight at her. Stretching out his front arms and pus.h.i.+ng off with his hind quarters, he ate the distance quickly.
Facing the hairy ragged bulk that was charging at her, she waited for the sound of the gunfire. When Ivar was fifty meters away she heard the M2 fire. Ivar was able to get another yard closer before the round pierced her body. The 50 caliber round entered her back at the T2 thoracic vertebrae and barely missed Ivar as the round pa.s.sed through her body. Cally was instantly paralyzed and started to drop to her knees. 'd.a.m.n that hurt like a son of a b.i.t.c.h.'
Ivar was on her in the next second. He went for her throat. His claws grabbed her upper body dragging her unresisting body to his mouth. His gaping maw full of rows of sharp canine teeth ripped into her throat. Just like a top predator he went for an instant kill by ripping out a huge chunk of her throat. Like a shark biting away chunks he threw the first mouthful away before biting again. Cally felt pain in waves, cresting and cras.h.i.+ng all through her body as she heard the second shot of the M2. Covered in blood, with the pain receding, Cally fell to the ground as the monstrous Ivar was struck in the head. His head exploded in a shower and mist of blood red gore.
Like a zombie attack victim, Cally lay on the ground, unable to breathe and without blood getting to her brain, she was dying. Blood, brains, bone chips and other bits covered her body. Ivar was thrown back from her body his heart pumped out blood for another couple of beats before gravity continued to allow the blood to escape from his headless shoulders to create a b.l.o.o.d.y muddy mess between the two bodies. Her last thought was "f.u.c.kers..."
Hal and Eagle calmly packed up all their gear and climbed down from the trees. Hal tossed his good buddy a bottle of water before asking, "Do you want to call it in or should I?" Eagle caught the bottle and took a long drink before wiping his mouth on his sleeve. "We should check the bodies before calling it in. You have the disposable phone to call Mademoiselle Rosemount?" Hal nodded, "Sure, Sure." Pulling out the untraceable cell phone Hal dialed a number. After one ring it was picked up. "Yes?" It was feminine voice. "It's done. We severed her spinal cord. Paralyzing her and the Russian wolf tore out her throat as she watched unable to even twitch. It will look like an accident. The poor fool stepped in front of a sniper's bullet." "Good." Then the line was disconnected.
They left most of their gear at the SUV before walking over to the bodies. "It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Wasn't she supposed to be like some mythical werewolf?" said Hal as they approached the carnage. After fighting for the French in Indochina and then fighting with the Americans in the Vietnam conflict this b.l.o.o.d.y scene was nothing to them. Léon César, also known as Eagle, replied "I've never known any creature my M2 could not take out. This little tramp was beyond stupid to insult Mademoiselle and hurt our people. She deserved death." They stood there unmoved as they stared at the body of Cally Wotan, Chief of the Wotan pack with her throat almost completely severed. "Ehh we should throw a tarp across them before Marcus gets here. He probably wouldn't appreciate the flies that will be swarming with all this b.l.o.o.d.y goop." Léon César looked at his buddy of more than 60 years, "You're right. You always had a way with the ladies."
