"Awake son?"
His father's voice spoke over his head. Corin looked up to see his father carrying him like a baby. It was embarra.s.sing and not a good manly example for Darick.
"Aye. I'm fine father." He coolly replied and frowned, not feeling any sensation to his limbs.
Of course, he had invoked a lineage blood power, the Dragonieth.
Within the Lochlea lineage was a deity power pa.s.sed down to generations via blood connection. This power had been bestowed upon their founding father, Krestlin Lochlea, when he bested a Saoghal Dragon in a challenge for the West Fold Kingdom and all the West Clans.
Impressed by the man's win, the Saoghal Dragon had bestowed his power upon Krestlin with a.s.surance it would pa.s.s through his generation to the kin whose blood proved worthy. The Saoghal Dragon had termed his power Rushkillzen, belonging to the Dragonieth. It was a power of organism manipulation, granting the caster infinate possibilities. The power ensued a consequence for the caster. Use too much and the body could mutate beyond repair or die to ash.
Four generations had gone by without the Dragonieth being bestowed until Corin was born. His body had been cast in purple light, which was a sign the Rushkillzen power had chosen him. Many times Corin had almost died and caused death as a child, so he received radical training from his father and the villiage Grand Magika to control his power.
"Is your legs with feeling yet?" Alroy asked as he placed Corin down on straw piles near a broken cart wheel.
"Darick." Corin deflected the question with his concern for his brother.
"I'm here." Darick hurried to him.
Corin cursed when Darick punched his gut and pulled him in a hug. "Brother, don't scare me like this again."
"Avorond said the Vorn has taken Hannah!" Corin pulled away from Darick and glanced up to his father. "We have to make haste!"
"It's too late for that Corin," said a newcomer.
"Avarack-magika." Corin respectfully acknowledged the elderly man with his purple mage's cape billowing about his black leather boots.
He was about the same age as their father with his long grey beard and plaited silver hair to prove it. The deep crowsfeet lines to the corners of his eyes were made obvious with his frown and stern mannerism.
"Avarack. They have taken our women and children!" Alroy said to the man, not hiding his anger and concern on his face.
"Corin released the Rushkillzen. It won't be long before the Vorn gather reinforcements to claim him and the Lifestone this village was entrusted for protection."
Corin groaned with realization. "I released a beacon."
"Why?" Darick innocently asked.
"I've heard rumors via Wind Folk, Oligarch seeks to revive the Gates of Demahan."
Corin, Alroy and Darick stared at Avarack with shock and disbelief.

"Why?" Darick asked again and gulped nervously at Avarack's answer.
"Invasion and conquest no doubt." Avarack soberly answered. "He knew that the stone was somewhere within the West Clans. Now he knows one of the Dragonieth also is here."
High-pitched wailing in the distance drew their minds to pressing time.
"Where is the lifestone?!" Avarack commanded.
"With me." Corin responded.
"Good. Make haste for Alaeg Forest. The Seriph will provide further instructions." He instructed with his eyes on Alroy.
The sound was swift coming with the sensation of air being disturbed in the skies. It wouldn't be long before they were overwhelmed with nightstalkers.
Corin went to stand and found his limbs were not responding to his will.
"Avarack!" Alroy unsheathed his sword with his eyes on the man.
Avarack-magika beamed with a c.o.c.ky grin. "Like old days, aye Alroy."
"Father?" Corin had a bad feeling about what the old timers were about to do. "Is this the only way?"
"Darick, carry your brother out of the village." Alroy patted Darick's shoulder with a proud look in his eyes and firmness to his touch.
He repeated his pat and look to Corin.
A tear slipped down Darick's cheek. "As you wish father. Khylan bless your way."
He turned around to face Corin, released a spell to unbound gravity around Corin, so he can easily carry him. He ignored his big brother's protests at being princess-held whilst he muttered a speed spell to boost his sprints out of the destroyed village.
