Deacon turned off the picture box to make the gla.s.s wall blank and dormant again. He faced his knights.

"Indeed my dear Colonel. There is a fault with the Aura Scanner program, which took many days of your brother and Sewell's time in finding it."

The old man enthralled the seated audience with his discovery.

"Are yah serious?" Gavin gasped with a mixed expression of awe and concern contorting his freckly face.

_"This is dangerous Admiral. It is no different of a hiruda displacing the ego of a living body."_ Colin pa.s.sionately stood and signed his concerns.

His eyes touched on Death's before he sat down again.

"That is where your help as the Light Grimoire is needed." Deacon pointed out to Colin.

_"We also need to apply a counter spell only contained in the Dark Grimoire for recall. We know War has the knowledge, but he's not the Dark Grimoire."_ Colin continued to press his concerns.

"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it." Deacon flippantly brushed off.

Why did I get the feeling he already knew who the Dark Grimoire was?

Leinard sighed. "I suppose you already have willing candidates in mind for the program."

Deacon nodded and looked to us.

"How certain are you that this program will allow us to infiltrate that mansion, find and save our brother?" Death questioned the bushy beard old man.

"As far as tests on non humans go, it has a 98% success rate. However, those tests were performed within the Fourth District. The environments are distinctly different between all four districts of Apocalypse. Not to mention any lifeforms above insect level and below the mana levels of human kind can not exist within this district. So, we're not able to replicate those tests here." Deacon advised.

"So, yah saying yah have no b.l.o.o.d.y idea." War groaned.

"Sign me up." I soberly answered, which stirred heated protests from my elder brothers and a wicked grin from Deacon.

"Famine. Are you sure about this? You need to have a keen understanding of semblance magic to control the internal mechanisms." Leinard voiced his concern.

"Sir, if the boy is willing, why not? We certainly need the volunteers for this program." Sewell coolly jumped in.

"d.a.m.n Famine." Trix smirked.

"I don't know if you're an idiot or a brave soul." Teagan regarded me with a lopsided grin.

"I'll do anything to save my brother, captains. If this will grant me a chance, I'll take it." I soberly answered.

"I guess we have no other choice." Death swallowed down the rest of his complaints. "Either way, I'm sure you would have us in this program regardless. Of course, to save our brother we will seize any and all opportunities."

"So, that's a yes from you Death?" Deacon prompted for a firm confirmation.

Death nodded.

"Me too. Can't have meh stupid baby brother going guns blazing without me." War also volunteered to the program.

"Deacon, I protest! They need training in order to survive the a.s.similation and displacement processes! You can't hook them up to those machines without knowing they have the mental capability to control them. They could lose their minds!" Leinard rose to his feet with a deep frown pressed on his forehead. "We aren't barbarians!"

"I'm well aware. You will do well to understand the bigger picture my dear Lieutenant Colonel." Deacon firmly answered with a tone of reprimand to his voice.

"So, what must be done," I asked.

"As your dear Lieutenant Colonel has pointed out, you will need training in semblance magic and others in order to control your animachines and not lose your minds in the process." Deacon raised his brows.

"Training." I gulped.

"Well, that should be a breeze." Death sighed.

"For you and War. You guys are already plenty smart about this stuff." I grumbled.

"Then I enrol my men as academy newbies." Trix declared.

"Very well. One term is all you have men." Deacon agreed. "Learn as much as possible during this time. I expect you to be of a senior ensign rank in three months, and in time for the fox-bot hunt that Marlo has planned at the mansion around about then to draw in new investments."

Further agreements were exchanged and Deacon called a close on the meeting. My brothers and I sat where we were, watching the knights file out.

_"Hey Famine. You have my support whenever you need it. Just call me."_ Colin signed with a wink.

He handed me a slip of paper, patted my head and resumed his way out of the room.

I looked at the paper and saw a room number. Before I could a.s.sess it further, the note was s.n.a.t.c.hed out of my hands.

"Hey." I looked up and saw Leinard frowning at the contents. He pocketed the note in his breast pocket.

_"Possessive much."_ War noted in my mind.

_"Colin's note is not relevant to cause, War."_ Leinard answered back in our minds.

_"Dat doesn't mean yah can control who Famisto hangs out with."_ War's eyes narrowed.

I heaved a weary sigh at their serious talk going on in my head.

_"Colin's a married man. I wouldn't want Famine involved in any unpleasant misunderstandings."_

"Say what?" I blinked with surprise at Leinard's little bomb drop.

Colin was married? Oh man, I had kissed him twice, but that was to heal him. So, those times didn't count. Right? I hoped his wife wasn't the jealous type. I was dead meat if she was and found out.

_"His wife is the jealous type."_ Leinard almost snapped in my mind.

I gulped at the strong glare his grey eyes were giving me.

"You and I need to talk later about those kisses."

"What kisses?" Death asked that made War release a weary sigh.

"So, you're the Gat s.h.i.+em Brothers." Sewell stood (too close) to Leinard.

His expressionless face and upturn nose gave me an impression of haughtiness, and eyes carried a similar glaring look as Leinard's when they were fixed on me, but seemed to soften when they touched on my brothers.

"You're Captain Hunter?" I asked hoping to break the awkward tension I was feeling from the man.

"Sir, will we catch up later to discuss those plans?" Sewell near whispered into Leinard's ear.

His hand was placed on Leinard's arm in an awfully friendly position near the colonel stripes on his shoulder.

What the h.e.l.l?!

"Yes. In the Gold Leaf Bar of our headquarters." Leinard answered with a business tone to his voice.

Sewell smiled at Leinard sweetly and nodded. He turned to make his way out of the room, giving me something of a stink-eye on the way out.

"What's his problem?!" I grumbled.

War chuckled. "Aah, man, love sucks."

"Eew. Don't say disgusting things." I screwed up my nose and turned my complaints to Leinard's one-brow expression.

"You shouldn't be too friendly with your subordinates! Looks unprofessional!" I snapped.

"You shouldn't accept suggestive notes from married men." Leinard answered back.

Death's heavy sigh broke through our spats. "Men, don't we need to be somewhere."

Leinard and I avoided each other's eyes as we walked out of the room.
