Chapter 14 - Work Visa

Inside the training room, Wu Jin’s hand flew as he took notes.
“When stopping bleeding by applying pressure, the injured limb must be raised up, and the pressure must be applied above the joint…”
“Ideal shelters should be made away from falling rocks and wildlife attacks. The program won’t prevent contestants from sleeping in a pit, but it is important to consider how many viewers are watching the live broadcast.”
“Supplies can be traded for a.s.sistance points prior to setting out. This includes medicine. If you don’t understand pharmacology––please ask the agent to write out the instructions for you in advance. The Crosson Show’s death rate is one in fifteen thousand. Out of a full thirty seasons, only one contestant died because he took atropine after being bitten by a poisonous snake. The life-saving capsule and all of the on-site medical staff were unable to bring him back.”
“If you don’t even know what atropine is––I suggest you pack loose powder in your supplies. Not only does it not endanger your life, you can even fix up your makeup during the program.”
Blood Pigeon made an innocuous joke, and the training room bubbled with a cheerful mood.
Wu Jin’s right hand that had been taking notes paused.
It crept slowly towards the terminal.
And started to input search terms at a swift pace.
Caesar glanced over and almost burst out laughing on the spot, only barely managing to hold it in.
At the end of cla.s.s, Wu Jin obtained a stretch of rope from the program team and earnestly practiced the rope knots that Blood Pigeon had taught during cla.s.s.
When they reached a place with very few people, Caesar finally couldn’t help it anymore and roared, “Hahahaha, Little Witch really doesn’t know what atropine is, hahahaha… Where did a little cutie like you grow up hahaha… Come, your big brother will help you find information!”
Wu Jin obediently handed over the terminal.
Caesar had just started to enter a query when a series of search records popped up. After atropine, Wu Jin had also searched for a series of wide spectrum antidotes, blockers, symptoms of central nervous system failure, and so on.
Caesar was stunned. In a mere two-hour course, Wu Jin had entered over three hundred queries.
“How many pages of notes did you take?” Zoe poked his head in.
Wu Jin opened up his notes, revealing rows of neat and tidy handwriting. There were large gaps left between the lines, to be filled in with supplementary information later on. A full twelve pages were filled with brief notes and vague symbols.
Zoe reached over and swiped away the notebook.
“Type A support?”
Wu Jin stilled, then opened his mouth dazedly, “Parachute equipped with tree beams. Suitable as a basic tent in mild weather.”
Caesar pulled up a string of text from the search records, “Da-da-something holek2026;”
“Dakota fire hole,” Wu Jin quickly corrected him. “One of the ways to make a fire with the least amount of smoke. It is effective when trying to avoid exposure of one’s position. The main hole will consume oxygen that is pulled in through the secondary holek2026;”
Caesar’s mouth fell open, “Was this from the cla.s.s just now?”
Zoe sighed, “The instructor mentioned an underground fire once.”
Caesar was confused, “How come I don’t remember? How did Little Witch know?”
“……” Zoe was full of pity. Slag student, hopeless!
Before returning the notebook to Wu Jin, Zoe took a photo of it with his terminal and sent it to someone on his contact list, “Sending him a good role model so he’ll study hard.”
Caesar patted his thigh, “Hey, isn’t that! The person who sent you champagne and wanted to date you…”
“… The child is only sixteen years old.” Zoe’s cool gaze swept past, “If you say another word, I’ll snipe and destroy you in the next round.”
After Wu Jin left, Zoe let out a particularly emotional sigh, “There’s no need to worry about Little Witch. His academic performance must be very good.”
“Amazing!” Caesar nodded, “He might even have graduated from high school…”
Zoe was stunned, “Haven’t you?”
Caesar chuckled, very proud of himself. “I didn’t even finish primary school. I played a few years of football before switching to become a trainee.”
Zoe suddenly came to a realization, “You dared to join as a trainee with your mom’s kindergarten education––no, the company actually dared to hire you?”
Caesar was surprised, “What about being a kindergarten graduate? I heard the company also recruited an unregistered resident!”
The seventh floor of the South Tower was empty when Wu Jin returned to his dorm room.
He added some food for the rabbit, then continued practicing knots.
Halfway through, Wu Jin’s line of sight repeatedly swept over the rabbit’s hind legs, his hands itching to s.n.a.t.c.h it up as a practice target––he finally abandoned the idea after much thought.
This wasn’t simply a rabbit.
This was Brother Rabbit.
It was entrusted to him personally by big boss and couldn’t be bullied… When the doorbell rang, Wu Jin learned from Wei s.h.i.+’s example and stroked a hand along Brother Rabbit’s body before turning to open the door.
A black envelope was delivered straight to Wu Jin’s hands by a courier machine; the payment for the delivery had already been paid for by the White Moonlight Entertainment.
He opened up the envelope. A small chip lay there quietly inside the packaging.
Federal work visa. Validity: 1 year.
Wu Jin loaded the chip into his terminal and finally breathed out a sigh of relief.
One year from now… He would work hard at being a trainee for a year. Perhaps he would have a chance at applying for citizens.h.i.+p!
In the warm afternoon sun, Wu Jin cuddled the rabbit and dozed off. He rolled over, revealing a stretch of pale belly.
There were quite a few close combat fighters on the field. Physical training also needed to be added to the agenda––
When he thought of this, Wu Jin’s sleepiness disappeared. He quickly loaded up the physical fitness manual, turned on the voice guidance, and performed a series of exercises.
The afternoon course was on camera expression.
When Ying Xiangxiang appeared, the crowd of straight men’s mouths all fell open.
This female instructor was wearing a long, white dress. She smiled when she spoke, and her simple make-up was just like in the summer hit, First Love Series.
Even Wu Jin couldn’t help taking a second glance.
Then, he felt a probing look shooting his way from the side.
Wu Jin leaned to the side and looked at Red in surprise.
Red widened his eyes exaggeratedly and mouthed: Brother––Wei––
Wu Jin also widened his eyes and mouthed: He’s not here! I haven’t seen big brother either!
Red choked, then tugged on Wu Jin again to confirm that he wasn’t staring at Ying Xiangxiang anymore before finally relaxing. He was still pondering what Brother Wei had been thinking. Hadn’t they already slept together…
On the stage, Ying Xiangxiang opened up a video of a survival show contestant bandaging a wound on his arm. His forehead glistened with sweat as he poured iodine on his injury, the pain making him hiss and swear chaotically.
“Did you all see it clearly?” Miss Ying smiled slightly.
The crowd of trainees all nodded vigorously.
“In a survival show, you will be followed by a direct broadcast camera no matter whether you’re having a good time or experiencing difficulties. Injuries––one of the situations that will challenge a contestant’s psychological stability the most. The audience will follow you for your strength, but they will also appreciate your vulnerability. However, the lens will only faithfully reflect what it sees.”
Ying Xiangxiang switched to the next video. The lens was now focused on very popular prior contestant, Silver Thread Roll Team’s sniper, Thin Water.
Caesar frowned the moment Thin Water appeared on the screen, “That pervert.”
Wu Jin was bewildered, “Ah…”
Caesar twisted his lips, “A small trash battle team. They can’t fight, but they stir up a lot of things. Silver Thread fans really know how to put up a good fight. Yeah, this person is our team captain’s mortal enemy. They were trainees from the same period, made their debut together, and are both snipers.”
On screen, Thin Water had a wound running down his arm. He adjusted his position before bowing his head to wrap a bandage around his arm, deliberately showing his side profile to the lens––showing off his features, his peach blossom eyes quivering slightly from the pain. He was obviously breathing hard, but those small fluctuations didn’t damage the overall aesthetic of the scene.
Wu Jin was stunned as he watched the video.
Immediately after he finished bandaging up the wound, this contestant––actually smiled at the camera:
“I’m sorry for making all my darlings worry.”
Caesar’s face went from green to white to green again, and he almost retched on the spot.
Zoe was also in a trance, “What kind of broken operation is this––”
On the podium, Ying Xiangxiang wasn’t stingy with her praise for Thin Water at all.
“Remember, survival shows are still shows. All of your performances must be for the sake of the camera. Alright. Let’s pick out a few students to perform one by one. Starting from the ones who obtained an S for camera performance.” Ying Xiangxiang looked at the name list, and her eyes shone:
“Contestant 300012, Wu Jin.”
