Wu Jin replied in a daze, “What ‘lively’…”

Wei s.h.i.+’s eyes narrowed. He turned and opened the side door of the training room with a bang.

Wei s.h.i.+ strode forward, carelessly tugging on a pair of pure white gloves as he went. Wu Jin followed behind him, his amber eyes round and confused, and it was obvious that he hadn’t quite figured out what was going on at the moment.

The dark corridor extended downwards, and every breath taken was practically choked with dust. To one side of the corridor was a warehouse full of metal shelves.

Wei s.h.i.+ turned to open the door, and Wu Jin hurried to catch up. Because his legs weren’t as long as the other party’s, he had to jog for a few steps from time to time, his small curls bouncing and making him appear like he was skipping.

The ceiling lights for the warehouse turned on in the next moment.

Wu Jin sucked in a breath and fell into a fit of coughing from the dust.

This was a real, genuine armory.

The ceiling was about four meters high and so deep that the edges of it weren’t visible with just a glance. There were guns, ammunition, and even small neutron weapons and laser guns on the shelves––each weapon was labeled with its production number, ballistic test results, certified instructor ID, and the date it was last serviced.

Wu Jin’s eyes lit up, his gaze darting from shelf to shelf, looking around so excitedly that he was barely moving.

Individual weapons, team combat weapons, strong mobility weapons, light combat armor––

This fulfilled practically every straight man’s dream of having an underground private armory!

Wei s.h.i.+ turned his head back and beckoned for the silly daydreaming rabbit spirit to keep up.

Wu Jin hurriedly moved his legs. Only then did he notice the words ‘for training use’ stuck to one side of the warehouse, with a silver mask logo engraved beneath it.

Wu Jin quickly raised his head and looked at the big boss reverently.

This obviously also belonged to Wei s.h.i.+.

The two of them went all the way in, and the man finally stopped in front of a weapon shelf. He reached out to take down a gun and tossed it to Wu Jin.

Wu Jin was delighted and hurried to catch it.

“Smith & Wesson, XVR460, one of the revolvers with the highest initial velocity, with a kinetic energy of 3254 joules when it leaves the muzzle.” Wei s.h.i.+ was expressionless. “Lively and cute.”

Wu Jin’s mouth dropped open; he didn’t understand: “……”

Wei s.h.i.+ led Wu Jin to the next shelf, his military cloak billowing out behind him like a thunder cloud. When he narrowed his eyes and picked up the gun, the straight lines of his shoulders and arms were exposed. The white gloves of an unknown material remained the same pristine color as he rummaged through the dusty shelves, adding a sense of haughty abstinence in the dim lighting.

“BMQ dagger tranquilizer gun. The dart is fired through compressed gas and contains a 0.005g dose of anesthetic. The target will be unable to exert any strength in their bodies and enter a deep sleep for approximately two hours.” Wei s.h.i.+ handed the tranquilizer dagger to Wu Jin, “Gentle and intelligent.”

Wu Jin: “……” Wait a minute! He seemed to have thought of something…

The two of them came to a stop in front of the last shelf. Wei s.h.i.+ raised his eyebrows and finally took out a gun with a slender body that Wu Jin couldn’t identify by name and handed it over.

“Alpha 17 single-man neutron radiation gun, filled with subcritical ma.s.s plutonium-239. Not used in actual combat. The operator will receive a backlash of permanent radiation damage, so it cannot be operated by a living person. It is one of the biggest weaponry R&D failures of the 22nd century.”

Wei s.h.i.+ added, “––likes to act spoiled.”

Wu Jin, who was currently studying the barrel of the gun, was stunned and dropped the gun with a clatter.

Wei s.h.i.+ leaned against the shelf and lowered his head to look at the rabbit spirit. He spoke slowly, “Do you still like it?”

Wu Jin quickly picked up the Alpha 17, holding it in his hands like a hot carrot and subconsciously adjusted his stance, “No… I don’t…”

Wei s.h.i.+ inclined his head and pulled the hot carrot out from the rabbit spirit’s arms before tossing it back onto the shelf.

Wu Jin finally reacted, “Big brother is talking about the interview for the group performance? I was reciting lines at the time… In fact, I…”

Wei s.h.i.+ lowered his gaze to look down at him.

Wu Jin squished himself up against the cold wall like a flattened rabbit pancake. He didn’t slide down until Wei s.h.i.+ moved his gaze away.

The man closed the warehouse door behind him and headed towards the training room once again.

Wu Jin had a revolver in one hand and a tranquilizer gun in the other. He was vaguely aware that something was off, but couldn’t quite pinpoint it.

He lifted up the gun, “Big brother, where should I put these?”

Wei s.h.i.+ spoke, “Keep them if you like.”

By the time he looked back again, the rabbit’s pockets were bulging with the two guns. He looked like he’d filled his pockets with candy.

Compared with the first time he’d hidden a gun, he had already become familiar and comfortable with it.

When the two returned back to the training room, the cartoon gra.s.s and metal slime was replaced with the insectoid beasts once again at Wu Jin’s emphatic request.

There was only one training subject that afternoon.

Tactical evasion.

Wu Jin put on the training equipment, and by the time he came out of the dressing room, Wei s.h.i.+ had already finished adjusting the training difficulty for him.

The eyes of the insectoid beasts were bright and green. They followed the instructions of the instance and attacked the target by tackling, crus.h.i.+ng, strangling, and using other such offensive moves. There were also simulated shot trajectories in the virtual simulation, and points would be deducted according to the number of times that a stray bullet hit the trainee.

“There are six basic tactical evasion maneuvers.” Wei s.h.i.+ spoke, “It’s more difficult to dodge bullets than close combat moves. The fastest human reaction time is between 0.11 and 0.13 seconds, but the lowest bullet speed is 200m/s.”

Wu Jin silently calculated it in his mind. He modeled the speed, time, and distance, then raised his head, “Is there no way to deal with it if someone shoots at you from within 20 meters?”

Wei s.h.i.+ was unconcerned, “Depends on the person. If you had a gun, who would you be able to hit something within a 20 meter range?”

Wu Jin’s cheeks puffed out: “……” It was enough to fight against little b.u.t.terflies!

Fighting within 20 meters with a gun was basically considered using guns in hand to hand combat, which was another of Wu Jin’s weakest areas.

Wei s.h.i.+ pressed the b.u.t.ton to turn on the virtual projection.

The six tactical evasion maneuvers were similar to those taught by the Crosson Show, but the fine details had been adjusted slightly.

“Repet.i.tive training will form muscle memory.” Wei s.h.i.+ ordered, “Do a round of it.”

Wu Jin nodded, jumped up happily, and used the same enthusiasm he had for dancing to learn earnestly.

The youth inside the training room was vigorous and coated in a healthy layer of sweat. He was vibrant and in high spirits––

Wei s.h.i.+ pondered slightly, “You’ve done broadcast exercises before?”

Wu Jin nodded reflexively.

Wei s.h.i.+ tsked and came forward to adjust his movements. The youth’s soft skin glowed with a light sheen and gave off the fragrance of a small animal after exercise.

The callused hand was placed on his shoulder, arms, and waist, causing the soft Wu Jin to be immediately molded like a piece of plasticine.

In the mirror, the broadcast exerciser finally showed the presence of a ferocious killer baby.

Wei s.h.i.+ retracted his hand and suddenly asked, “Why are you flushed?”

Wu Jin was in a daze, “Maybe it’s because it’s h-h-hot…”

Wei s.h.i.+: “Alright. Practical training.”

Wu Jin breathed out a sigh of relief. He inadvertently looked at the mirror and went still.

Something seemed to be off.

He was clearly still wearing a mask…

When the virtual combat environment started up, Wu Jin no longer had time to think and was forced to focus on the battle.

The first wave consisted of a few low-level insectoid beasts. After they entered his field of vision, his brain quickly processed the information––Wu Jin picked out two maneuvers and evaded in a flash, linking the movements fluidly so that the serrated forelegs of the insectoid beasts only just swiped past him.

Next came the second group.

Four insectoid beasts charged over at the same time. Wu Jin turned and retreated, his eyes narrowing and giving off a cold glint as he quickly recalled the movements from his memory.

The third group.

Fourth group.

When the attack alarm rang out for the seventh time, Wu Jin’s forehead was already soaked with sweat beneath the mask, his curls damp and warped. His dodging was obviously significantly slower than before.

The heart rate monitor on the projection screen in the training room climbed up quickly––170 bpm.

Wei s.h.i.+ glanced at the heart rate chart. “Continue.”

Wu Jin, who was in the midst of a fierce battle, suddenly caught the sound of something other than an insectoid beast. He paused for a tiny moment, then executed a rapid roll during the eighth wave of attacks.

However, compared to before, his physical strength was on the verge of being exhausted, and the psychological pressure of high-intensity training combined with that to interfere with his ability to a.n.a.lyze and act at this time.

In the middle of the field, Wu Jin staggered, looking like a rabbit ball in the gra.s.s that had just been kicked. There were no signs of any tactical evasion maneuvers.

The ninth group was released right at this time––

Wei s.h.i.+ spoke abruptly, “Action B6, followed by C3.”

The rabbit ball that had still been rolling around on the ground perked up and didn’t hesitate to do as it was told. Wu Jin scrambled up from the gra.s.s and kicked away the first insectoid beast that charged over.

The tenth group.

Wei s.h.i.+: “Action A1.”

With Wei s.h.i.+’s help, the fight instantly became much easier for Wu Jin.

However, the man delayed and didn’t speak when the eleventh group showed up. Wu Jin stilled and looked back subconsciously just to see Wei s.h.i.+ standing from a height with his arms crossed over his chest. His gaze was cold and dark––

Three silver insects that were half as tall as a person abruptly pounced over, leaving Wu Jin with no time to think. His right shoulder dipped slightly, and his center of gravity fell back against the bunker––

His body reacted faster than his mind.

His amber pupils immediately lit up.

Muscle memory.

Wei s.h.i.+ finally spoke up, “Continue.”

At this time, Wu Jin’s heart rate had jumped up to 180 bpm, which was almost his upper limit during intense exercise. However, Wei s.h.i.+ soon showed a satisfied expression.

After another two rounds, Wu Jin had actually managed to find the rhythm he’d had at the beginning of the training once again.

At this time, nearly twenty minutes had pa.s.sed since Wu Jin stepped onto the training ground. He was in a period of intense physical decline, and was relying on sheer willpower to continue the fight––

Wu Jin’s willpower was stronger than that of most contestants.

Wei s.h.i.+ stood to the side of the training grounds and watched on silently.

At twenty seven minutes, Wu Jin lost his first point. His left leg was bitten by a virtual insectoid beast. His eyes that had grown blank due to the strenuous exercise, lit up once again.

After he returned to consciousness, Wu Jin’s body, which had originally been in a sorry state, slowly stabilized once again. He panted as he stood there in the field, and the skin that was exposed by the combat uniform was slightly flushed.

At the thirty minute mark.

Four evasive maneuvers were linked together perfectly, but Wu Jin was unaware that Wei s.h.i.+ had adjusted the difficulty of the instance to the intermediate level.

At the thirty first minute, Wei s.h.i.+ spoke again after being silent for so long, “Do you want to continue?”

This was the first time that he had phrased it like a question.

Wu Jin wiped at the fine sweat on his neck. His curls had collapsed and were plastered to his forehead from the excess exercise.

Wu Jin spoke in a low voice, his voice unconsciously hoa.r.s.e and akin to that of a soft cat only to transform into a fierce leopard as he kicked away an insectoid beast with a foot. “… Continue.”

Wei s.h.i.+ nodded.

Outside the training room, the bell signaling the end of cla.s.s rang out at this time. The sound of the drillmasters yelling and the students hollering mixed in with the shrill ring of the bell.

The man remained undisturbed by the noise, his gaze locked on Wu Jin.

The youth’s movements were obviously laborious, but the immaturity and rawness faded away with every repet.i.tion, continuously refined and polished until an inorganic, bitingly cold color and l.u.s.ter was revealed.

It was brilliant.

The ceiling lamp shone down brightly from high up above. Wu Jin’s reddened skin quivered slightly due to the high intensity exercise, and his shoulder and arm muscles were tense, dazzling beneath the lights.

Or rather, he was the light itself.

Thirty six minutes.

Wu Jin’s heart rate suddenly jumped up to 200 bpm. Wei s.h.i.+ pressed down on a b.u.t.ton, and the insects and animals charging towards Wu Jin immediately stood still.

In the middle of the field, Wu Jin was short of breath, and his gaze was slightly unfocused.

After losing the drive to fight that had kept him going, he subconsciously bent over at the waist to support himself on his knees, but ended up staggering––

Wei s.h.i.+ moved like lightning and caught him firmly.

“Stand up and walk around.”

Wu Jin’s arms and legs were powerless, his mind and thoughts suspended in mid-air. It took a while for him to respond.

The damp, small curls rubbed against Wei s.h.i.+’s chin, and the heated fragrance drifted up to his face, inciting his blood to boil and heartbeat to accelerate.

Wei s.h.i.+ removed his gloves and pressed his rough palm against the rabbit’s pulse.

“Take a deep breath.” Wei s.h.i.+’s voice was low.

Wu Jin didn’t respond. Beneath the mask, his eyes drooped a little, and it seemed as though he would fall asleep in the next second. Wei s.h.i.+ frowned slightly, his arm going around Wu Jin’s shoulders as he quickly removed his mask.

Wu Jin finally responded and stared blankly up at him.

The originally pale milky colored skin was a little flushed, and his facial features were covered with a fine layer of sweat that seemed to glisten in the light. He was breathtakingly attractive.

Wu Jin’s pulse was at approximately 190 bpm.

Physical overexertion.

Wei s.h.i.+ adjusted his position, using his powerful arm to keep Wu Jin in place and prevent him from toppling over and steadied Wu Jin’s head against his jaw.

The quiet sound of deep breaths came from above Wu Jin, and his entire person was wrapped up in a strong, yet deliberately gentle scent. Wu Jin took a deep breath. His originally rapid breathing was influenced by the sounds of Wei s.h.i.+’s breathing and finally began to calm down.

36 minutes of extreme training.

Wu Jin’s qualifications and physique wasn’t the best amongst all the students, but he was the one who had held on for the longest.

“Tired? Sleepy?” Wei s.h.i.+ asked quietly.

Wu Jin made a sound of acknowledgement and nodded.

A rough palm suddenly covered his eyes, and Wu Jin’s eyelashes quivered slightly beneath that hand.

“Close your eyes and rest.” Wei s.h.i.+’s voice was deep as he ordered, “I’ll take you back.”

Wu Jin’s sweaty shoulders and arms cooled slightly in the cold breeze. Wei s.h.i.+ took off his military cloak and draped it over Wu Jin before gathering both him and the cloak in his arms and opening the door to the training room.
