Following Silvia down the dirt road, goblins hiding in the bushes. As I put my hand on my sword handle I feel a gust of air pa.s.s by me and the goblins all have an arrow in their heads. Turning around I see Silvia with an awkward look.

"Sorry, I absolutely despise goblins. I have a personal vendetta against them," she explains.

Continuing down the road Silvia starts to chat with Rose and Elaine.

"Why did you girls become adventurers?" she asks.

Rose upon hearing the question had a calm expression.

"We grew up in the same village. When we were little we went up the mountain one day to get some fruits from the trees. We heard loud noises so we rushed back only to see a demon on the floor dead with a glowing sword in its chest, while monster corpses surrounded all around the village, the man who killed the demon was surprised to see any survivors let alone kids, so he took pity on us, therefore, he brought us to his home and raised us. As we were growing up we had many fun days, upon reaching 14 he taught us how to be adventurers and how to survive on our own until one day he just disappeared, we never learned his name and as the years went by our memory of our youth started slowly fading until now where we can barely remember his face." Rose says with an anxious face as she explains her reason.

Upon listening to the story the mood all around us feels heavy and no one speaks up. Seeing our heavy mood Rose lets go of her expression and talks.

"No need to worry, it's been over 10 years ago since it all happened. Elaine and I are over it, please don't let it affect your mood." she says trying to fix the mood.

Silvia seeing that everyone was less tense directed the attention towards someone else.

"Edward why don't you tell everyone why you became an adventurer." she says hoping for him to change the mood.

"Well, my father and mother were both adventurers. When my mother found out she was pregnant with me she settled down in the city and opened a bakery with her savings, My father, who was a renowned adventurer known throughout the continent, became a knight for the lord of the city and since then has advanced to the position of knight captain. I wish to follow in his footsteps and become a renowned adventurer throughout the continent and then maybe even one day fight by his side as an equal, not as someone he has to protect." Edward explains in the same proud tone as always.

All the other adventurers were soaking up the story and each had different thoughts, some had the thought that he was kind, others wished to get closer to Edward so they can meet his father. I personally think that it would make his father proud to have his son not only be at the same level as him but be even greater than him. I guess he could be considered a good guy.

Silvia seems to have already heard this story as she just watched all the adventurers continue telling stories. Eventually, everyone finishes their stories and look towards me.

"You're the youngest of the group is there a reason you became an adventurer?" Silvia says leaning in as if she really wants to hear my reasons. Everyone else upon hearing Silvia talk leans in as well. Every one of them has a curious gaze.

"I don't think I really have a reason, it just seemed like it was the right thing to do. If I had to say a reason it would probably be that I can make money and get stronger at the same time." I say trying to finish this talk as fast as possible.

"That's not really a reason though." one adventurer said his thoughts out loud.

"That's true. Is there really nothing other than money?" says Rose as she gives me a gaze of a predator looking at its prey. Just her look gives me the chills.

The other adventurer's display their discontent as well.

"Is there anything you have in mind." Silvia says trying to calm the adventurers.

"Hmmm... If I had to think of something it would probably be my childhood dream of being an author."

"Is there a reason behind you wanting to be an author?" Silvia says trying to get me to tell my story.

Feeling the impulse to get the story off my chest I start to tell it.

"The reason is probably due to my childhood. When I was growing up I had a little sister. When she was around 7 years old one day at school she fainted, at the hospital, we were told that she had a disease that weakened her body constantly. We tried every possible way to cure her but none of them worked. "Magicians" who could heal her with magic, "Shamans" who would get rid of the evil spirits possessing her, "Priests" who would pray for her to G.o.d for a price. All throughout her life from then on there were these phonies saying they could cure her just to earn money. Whenever I would visit her she would always talk about the books the doctors gave her, her favorite stories, and how when she was released, she wanted to be an author. One day when she was 9 years old the doctors called us saying that it was an emergency, we rushed to the hospital and found out that she only had 3 days to live. The very same doctors that said they would do their best to help cure her didn't notice that her condition was getting worse rapidly due to her being incompatible with the methods they used, the very same doctors that charged us exorbitant prices to keep her there didn't do their job and didn't pay enough attention to her. I stayed with her all of those 3 days and each day she would ask why I was still there. I didn't have the heart to tell her that she was dying and on the second night I told her I loved her and she should have a good sleep. On the third day when I checked in on her, she wouldn't wake up. I've decided to do what she couldn't and become an author so that when I see her again I can tell her all about my stories and adventures."

"I'm going to head to sleep." Feeling one of the emotional blocks that has been weighing in on me this entire time go away my shoulders feel as if they are brand new. Not even looking at the adventurer's reactions I get up and head off to bed getting ready for tomorrow's raid on the thieves.
