Right now Terry was on his way back from school as Seth was on patrol today. Usually, schools wouldn't let a child go home on their own but since Terry had Patch with him they gave him a pa.s.s since they knew what Patch was capable of.

Despite having Patch with him Terry can't help but feel a bit lonely, although he is friends with the kids at school he wouldn't call anyone there his best friend other than Patch of course. He always plays when they are in groups but he finds no one comes to him rather it's always him approaching other people, it's been like that ever since his quirk manifested.

Shaking his head Terry threw all those sour memories to the back of his mind before playing a spirited game of tag with Patch. While running down the street a large explosion happens down the street from Terry. It was at one of the jewellery stores, a large man with stoney skin ran out with two large glimmering sacks in two of his four hands.

The scene frightened Terry as his knees became jelly and he couldn't seem to move. As Terry was stuck in place Patch ran in front of him and began to grow from the size of a St Bernards to a grizzly bear. Large claws and spikes grew out of Patch as he guarded Terry against the incoming threat.

The villain who just emerged from the jewellers grinned at the loot in his hands, but it disappeared as he spotted the large metal beast with a kid behind it. Deciding to not take any chances he charged at the duo thinking that they might be a threat.

Patch let out a metallic roar before leaping and swiping at the rocky brute. Sparks flew as Patches sc.r.a.ped two parallel claw marks into the villain. The villain was caught off guard and was on the defensive from Patch's onslaught. However, Patch wasn't able to inflict any substantial damage to the villain who was beginning to go on the offensive.

Patch leapt onto the villains back and gave few powerful smacks to the back of his head as scratching the villain wasn't effective, but before Patch could leap away the villain grabbed him threw him to the ground before repeatedly pounding into him. Patch's metal body groaned under the relentless a.s.sault of the rocky villain, it wasn't long until Patches armour was bent out of shape and struggled to move.

"Patch nooo!" Red covered Terry's sight as he saw his best friend being pummeled into the ground. He ran towards the villain with no regard for his own safety, Terry began glowing bright blue as sparks of electricity crackled around him. As he neared the villain his bracers suddenly broke from the overload of all types of energy being released from Terry. As the villain turned around to Terry all he saw was a blindly bright light in the shape of a child before a large concussive blast sent him flying away.

At that moment Terry released all his stored energy onto the villain as a large concussive blast from superheated air as well as lighting tendrils and plasma fire. Immediately afterwards Terry slumped to the ground next Patch's malfunctioning body that was still trying to inch closer to Terry to protect him.

"YOU f.u.c.kING BRAT!" The villain emerged from the rubble, There were large spider web cracks in his skin beginning from the crater on his neck as well as lighting scars that glowed bright orange and some large burn marks from the plasma fire. Although the energy released was highly volatile there wasn't a lot in the first place so the villain could still remain conscious after the blast.

The villain got to his feet and he ran towards Terry to finish him and his dog off, however before he could get close enough a voice shouted out in anguish,

"GET THE f.u.c.k AWAY FROM MY SON" The villain couldn't react before he slammed to his knees by a large phantom fist. The villain tried to get up but another fist put a stop to it by flattening his body to the ground and then a second arm picked up the villain and held him so he was unable to move. Meanwhile, the hero walked to Terry's unconscious body, Terry managed to slightly open his eyes and see who's embrace he was in,

"Seth?" Terry could only manage to say Seth's name before being knocked out cold. Anger boiled within Seth, it was his fault Terry was hurt, he should've been there to pick him up instead of being on patrol and now Terry's life was in danger because he was too selfish to put Terry's well being before being a hero. He failed Terry.

Terry's inner turmoil was interrupted as the villain broke out of his phantom limbs and grew into an enormous size,

"c.r.a.p his quirk is actually gigantification," Seth bit his lip as the situation suddenly became much direr.

"Sensei what's happening?" behind Seth a young woman approached that had chin-length blonde hair and a long fringe over the right side of her face that covered her yellow eyes.

"Ryuko take Terry and Patch to somewhere safe I'll take care of the villain." Ryuko's eyes widened when Seth pa.s.sed the unconscious Terry to her, she was really fond of children in general and especially Terry who she liked to think as her little brother and seeing him like this shocked her to the core.

"But sensei will you be okay?" Worry was plastered on Ryuko's face since the threat was now so large that it even dwarves her dragoon form,

"Don't worry just get those two to safety and I'll show you how a real hero handles a colossus," Seth a.s.sured her as he tore his blindfold off to reveal a set of ghostly eyes, Ryuko stared a little at his eyes before transforming and taking Terry and Patch to safety meanwhile the now behemoth, four-armed, stone skin villain was now running amok in a blind rage.

"c.r.a.p he's gone berserk, I better finish this quickly," Terry whispered to himself before jumping into the fray, large phantom legs launched Seth high up into the air with each jump until Seth was the head height with the villain.

The villain attempted to swipe at Seth who avoided it with nimble grace before countering with a right hook with three simultaneous phantom limbs and then following with a dual uppercut and an axe kick. Seth led this one-sided a.s.sault manifesting ma.s.s amount of phantom limbs and handling them with great dexterity to deliver an unparalleled beat down. The villain stood no chance against Seth especially in his enormous form as he now much slower in comparison.

Ryuko watched the beat down with Terry in her embrace, she was enraptured as she watched her mentor easily take down the immense fiend with such ease. If she was fighting she wasn't sure if she could hold her own never mind fight so one-sidedly like her mentor is. As she watched her heart began to beat wildly but she was brought out of the trance as Terry began to stir as she then focused on taking care of Terry to check up on his injuries. There were small pangs of pain in her heart as she saw the fine electrical burns that spread across Terry's steaming skin.

Meanwhile, the fight was still going on, the villain attempted to turn it around but Seth was jumping from building to building with such speed that he simply couldn't keep up, instead he decided to cut his losses and turned to escape. This plan was quickly squashed as Seth manifested two enormous arms the size of the behemoth and held him in a chokehold and summoning multiple smaller arms to hold the rest of the villain's body in place. He was held like this until he ran out of air in his lungs and he fainted as well as return to his original size. Panting, Seth put some handcuffs onto the villain as well as signalling the police that it was now safe to advance. One of the policemen tried to approach Seth on what just happened but Seth ran off to find Terry.

Desperately he was searching for Ryuko who had Terry with her, he then decided to summon some phantom eyes to help him spot her out. After a few moments, he spotted Terry being taken out of an ambulance and being loaded into the hospital. Rapidly he ran towards the hospital.

He found Ryuko in the reception talking to the nurse,

"-his guardian is my mentor, he'll be here any moment," Seth ran up to her,

"Ryuko what happened to Terry? Is he okay?" Ryuko looked at the nurse, signalling her to explain,

"Sorry sir, your child has major electrical burns and physical trauma as well as some broken bones, it's like he was caught in a bomb blast while being struck by lightning. We brought him into the operating theatre to take care of any loose bone shards in his body." Seth's heart was close to breaking, Terry was hurt because of him if only he was there to protect.

Ryuko could sense the anguish in her mentor's heart, seeing Seth's fear-stricken expression tore her up inside. She quickly brought Seth into a hug,

"Sensei it's not your fault, you couldn't have known." Seth didn't say anything, he just silently sobbed while Ryuko held his trembling body.

Hours went by as the procedure will be long as Terry suffered bone damage all over his body so the surgeons had to make sure they get every loose shard and realign them so it can heal. It was dark out, Ryuko and Seth sat in the waiting rooms, they were both leaning on each other while Ryuko held Seth's hand in hers. They were both exhausted both mentally and physically. A surgeon exited the operating theatre and walked towards the slumbering duo,

"Excuse me are either of the guardians of the young boy?" Seth's eyes shot open as he replied while Ryuko was still a bit groggy,

"Yes doctor, I am his guardian,"

"Alright, well I have some good news as well as some bad news. The good news is that due to his young age his skeleton in much softer than adults so it didn't splinter nearly as much so the operation went off without much of a problem. However, we can't really say much about the muscle trauma the boys experienced, we can only wait until he wakes up before we can perform any sort of diagnosis." Seth slowly digested the information, Ryuko looked worriedly at her teacher before asking,

"Is it possible for us to see him?"

"You can but he will still be unconscious as he's under anaesthetic,"

"Thank you, doctor," He merely nodded before leaving the two of them. They both got up and walked to Terry's room. Seth stopped outside of his door, his hand shaking as it reached for the handle, it stopped as Ryuko put her hand on top of his and placed his hand firmly on the handle. Seth gave Ryuko a grateful look before opening the door and walking in.

On the bed was Terry and at the foot of his bed was Patch who was back at his usual size and seemed to be performing some self-maintenance. Seth walked over and rubbed patched head who replied with a few small robotic whimpers,

"Good boy, you've done a great job, you can rest easy now," At Seth's words Patch lied down and went into hibernation mode where small pulses of green bloomed throughout his body.

Seth brought himself to look at Terry, he was extremely pale and painful scars ran up his body up to his neck there was an IV drip as well as breathing mask and some monitoring equipment attached to his body. However, his expression was peaceful. Seth sat himself down beside his bed, his heart trembled as he looked at Terry, his poor boy. Weakly Seth brought his right hand out and gently stroked Terry's hair. His mind was blank, all he could feel was yawning void in his soul.

Ryuko sat beside Seth and held his left hand and spoke in a soothing tone,

"Don't worry sensei, he'll be alright." Seth merely nodded at her word and retracted his hand and put it over Ryuko's.

They remained silent for an hour, nothing could be heard but the soft breathing of the people in the room and the mechanical beeping of the hospital equipment. Soon a nurse came in to tell them that visiting times were over a long time ago and that they should return to their homes.

"Ryuko let me walk you home, I owe your parents an apology for keeping you so late,"

"Don't ha.s.sle yourself sensei, I'll explain it to them. You should return home and rest." Ryuko said adamantly,

"No, I insist," After a few more rounds of bickering Ryuko admitted to defeat and they walked to her home in awkward silence. They now stood apart, but it felt strange to them now since they spent the last couple hours being intimately close.

The silence was eventually broken by Seth,

"Ryuko, I was thinking..." He took a small breath before continuing, "I think I should retire from being a hero,"

"WHAT!" Ryuko exclaimed but she quickly put her hands over her mouth when she realised how over the top her reaction,

"Why sensei, why are you leaving me," An aggrieved expression was painted on Ryuko's face that held no shame despite the nature of what she just said. Seth was a bit surprised to how Ryuko is reacting but didn't ponder about it too much,

"I've been acting selfishly for too long, now Terry was hurt because I wasn't there for him."

"It wasn't your fault, it-"

"Ryuko I know it wasn't my fault that the villain showed up, but it was my fault that Terry was alone in the first place. I'm his parent I need to be there for him." Ryuko was silent as she knew what Seth just said was correct but it didn't make the feelings go away,

"But what will you do instead?"

"I dunno, maybe I'll work in an office or I might become a teacher. A friend of mine who's an underground hero like I was, was recently offered a teaching position at UA so I've been thinking about taking a similar route. But me being a teacher, I couldn't imagine someone iller equipped for the job." Seth laughed at himself deprecatingly,

"Don't say that sensei you're an amazing teacher, without you I wouldn't be half the hero I am now, without you-" Ryuko couldn't finish as tears began to appear in her eyes and her fist began to shake. Seeing that his student was so attached to him Seth felt soft and warm inside, he then patted her on her head,

"Don't worry Ryuko with or without my help you'll become a fantastic hero, even one of the top heroes. But I'm glad my student think so highly of me, maybe I'm destined to be a teacher after all," Seth's ending statement interrupted Ryuko's tears with some giggles while making her a bit depressed that Seth only thought of her as a student or a junior. They both laughed together and continued to Ryuko's house.

They continued in silence but it was no longer awkward. Eventually, they made it to Ryuko's house where Seth apologised to her parents who completely understood the situation, Seth also declined their offer for some tea and made his way back home.

Ryuko stood in the doorway and stared longingly at her former mentor's back, the same back that seemed so strong and dependable when fighting villains yet was so weak and delicate in the hospital. At that moment she vowed to become a top hero so she can make Seth proud, so he'll see her as a woman and not just as his junior.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Patch woke up. Although he still needed repair and looked damaged he could still manage to move. Patch climbed onto Terry's bed began to shrink. His body shook and compacted itself until was pearly white cylinder with gold circuits running throughout. The cylinder fell onto Terry's skin where it began to melt into his body. After a couple of seconds, it completely integrated with Terry and then before long, a green pulse travelled along Terry's body.
