Moments later, Ci-ci reclined leisurely on a black couch in Dr. Rai's office while she sat straight and tall on her rotating armchair.

"What did you come here for?" She asked coldly.

"Oh? Wasn't visiting my favorite s.e.xy doctor not enough of a reason?"

"s.e.xual desire is indeed a good enough reason." Dr. Rai replied blandly as though it was the most natural thing in the world.

Then she stood, making her way toward the door to leave. "You can see your way out then, right?"

Ci-ci chuckled bitterly, "You're still as straight forward as always. Sit. I do have something to speak with you about, a partners.h.i.+p of sorts."

"Oh." Dr. Rai nodded, walking back to her seat without any sign of awkwardness.

"I'm planning on creating a dreamscape for VR Gaming. I need your expertise to help creating the technology necessary to game in our dreams."

"Not interested." Dr. Rai almost stood to leave again.

She only worked on things she had interest in. She spent her entire life on understanding what made some humans more intelligent than others and learning how exactly to qualify and quantify how smart an individual was. The only reason she spent decades researching sleep was because she felt the key to improving the mind might be linked to how the mind rejuvenated itself.

The concept was similar to caffeine or nicotine. When one drinks a cup of coffee or intakes nicotine in some format, the caffeine works to stop the neuroreceptors that cause drowsiness while nicotine can even increase the brain's performance among other things. Unfortunately, this process isn't perfect. Staying awake too long can lead to hallucinations and even death, while using caffeine or nicotine as a sleep replacement could lead to mild to severe addiction.

Something that happens during sleep removes all of these negative effects, rejuvenating the brain without consequence. Yet, for many centuries, even the greatest minds couldn't understand why sleep was necessary. Dr. Rai believed that there might be a thread or kernel of truth hidden in these mysteries that could help her with her intelligence research.

As for why she became acquainted with Ci-ci? It was simple. Although he had never taken a formal IQ test, it was clear and obvious that he was by far and away more intelligent than those of his age group. Even those old monsters who had decades to even centuries to train and forge their minds could barely compare.

The question was obvious… Why? Why Ci-ci? What was special about him? She had to know.

Truth be told, there were two reasons Ci-ci rejected Dr. Rai's experiments. The first was that he simply didn't have the time, but the second was more serious. He didn't trust her.

At first, Ci-ci thought that this might be an excuse for Dr. Rai to get a sample of his DNA, but he immediately rejected that idea. There were simply too many opportunities to get pieces of his DNA. Even a strand of hair left in his office back at Grandbell would have been enough. That was why Ci-ci didn't worry about his and Alice's s.e.xual relations.h.i.+p.

However, what Ci-ci was worried about was being put into a deep sleep by Alice. Awake, he could protect himself. But if he was asleep? Put under so Alice could poke around in his brain? He didn't like that feeling of powerlessness.

Long story short, Dr. Rai simply had no interest in video games. And, obviously, she didn't do things for money or else she wouldn't have broken away from her family.

"Oh? You wouldn't take on this side project even if it meant I let you experiment with me a bit?"

Dr. Rai froze, her eyes even widened with what Ci-ci thought was excitement. Did the cold Alice really just display an emotion despite coldness? She didn't even display this much emotion when his c.o.c.k was down her throat!

Ci-ci bitterly chuckled. 'It seems like my value to this woman is only as a lab rat.'

"What are the conditions?" Dr. Rai's flash of emotion disappeared just as quickly as it appeared, getting to the crux of the matter immediately.

"Simple. I can allow you one day a week for as long as this partners.h.i.+p lasts. You can take any scans and samples of me you'd like as well. My only rule is that any surgeries you want to do have to be run by me and I'd like to be awake throughout them all."

Dr. Rai nodded. None of these conditions were hard to meet. Surgeries done while the patient was awake were rare, but not unheard of. Plus, any secrets Ci-ci had in his mind were likely on the molecular level. On the macro level, Dr. Rai only expected to find that his gyrification was more advanced than that of others.

"And what do I have to do?" She asked.

"I need you to accomplish one of these two things. As long as you can do one, this will be considered a success.

"Either find a way to project a dreamscape into a sleeping individual's mind or induce a fake sleep wherein a person's actions only take form in this dreamscape. So, one brings the dreamscape to the person, and the other does the vice versa."

Dr. Rai blinked as though she was lost in thought. "This technology already exists in one form. It's only a matter of translating it properly."

Ci-ci frowned. Already exists? If that was the case, what were all those VR companies doing? Also, how did Ci-ci not know about it?

"I wouldn't expect you to know, you aren't a neurologist. Plus, no real neurologist would waste their time with gaming companies. Only failures who only seek after money would.

"This is a technology the Grimaldi family finalized about five to six decades ago. It was dubbed the [Eternal Life Project]."

"Five to Six decades? That means that patent is up." Ci-ci had the credentials of a lawyer, after all. He knew that exclusive patents only last 50 years on West Continent. Something he found to be a bit ridiculous, but it was the law, despite the fact the system was heavily abused.

Then he paused, remembering the project name. "[Eternal Life Project]…"

Dr. Rai nodded. "The Grimaldi family is the Medicinal Pillar Family for a reason. 52 years ago, Albert IV Grimaldi created the first neural network capable of uploading a person's mind, effectively granting them eternal life.

"The main goal was to one day find a way to download these neural networks back into flesh and blood bodies. But, we still haven't succeeded.

"That said, in the meantime, those neural networks are in a constant cycle of sleep, interacting with others who are also in this deep sleep.

"Luckily for you, I was a PhD graduate at the time, working under Dr. Grimaldi, so I'm quite familiar with the neural network."

Although Ci-ci didn't show any peculiar expression on his face, he felt a fierce rejection every time he heard the name Grimaldi. Maybe the only family of the 8 pillars he had a decent opinion of was the Mortlock family. Other than that, he hated the rest of them with a burning pa.s.sion.

Still, how funny would it be to use the work of a Grimaldi to one day wipe their family hierarchy out? How beautifully ironic that would be.

"However…" Dr. Rai started. "Even if I put everything on pause for this project of yours, the most conservative estimate is 10 years in terms of the time I'd need to replicate the technology and modify it to your standards."

Ci-ci shook his head. If he said he would do something in a year, he would do it in a year.

"We have 6 months." Ci-ci said with a careless grin. "Here's what we're going to do…"

Dr. Rai was about to learn firsthand that her thoughts on Ci-ci's intelligence, no matter how much she overestimated them in her mind, still weren't enough!
