"What do you mean, my son needs to stop being a genius? How is it killing him?" asked Kaiza, Boval's father.

"I mean, you're is gifted to do things now that adult elves would take nearly a century to be able to do. Normally we call such a person a genius, which your son is, but this very genius will kill him. His body isn't ready for it," said Dr. Mabi.

Kaiza let out a slow breath and calmed himself down. It seemed Dr. Mabi was being overly dramatic to make his point, a very human trait. Kaiza forgot Dr. Mabi was an eccentric by Elf standards.

"Dr. Mabi, please explain when you mean one step at a time. All you're doing right now is agitating us," Kaiza said.

"Very well," Dr. Mabi said while pondering for a few moments.

"Boval has developed the telepathic and telekinetic potential of an Elf one hundred years his senior," he said.

"Which we would think is a good thing, but according to you it's killing my son, why?" asked Kaiza.

"Boval is only five years old, as an elf child his brain hasn't finished developing. For example, a transformer can be used to either step up or step down the electric voltage between circuits. Different circuits are built to accommodate different levels of electric voltage.

There is a part of an Elf's brain which acts as a transformer regarding things like telepathy and telekinesis as well as other mental abilities. Other parts of your son's brain are like a circuit that has a maximum amount of electric voltage it can handle.

The transformer part of his brain is doing its job so long as it is stepping down the voltage or keeping it at a safe level. Instead of doing this, the transformer is stepping up the voltage," said Dr. Mabi.

"Therefore, his heightened abilities are a result of this stepping up of the voltage and it's about to fry his circuits?" asked Kaiza.

"Correct," said Dr. Mabi.

"What can we do?" Kaiza asked.

"I need to put up some mental s.h.i.+elding in his mind, I need to seal parts of his mind so other parts can develop properly. Once his body finishes developing to a proper level, the s.h.i.+elds with eventually dissolve," said Dr. Mabi.

"You said the cure was dependent on Boval, what does he have to do with this?" asked Kaiza.

"Good question," he said.

"These mental s.h.i.+elds cannot be set up and left to be by themselves. They must be maintained. At first, I can maintain them, but eventually, your son will need to maintain them. Otherwise, the s.h.i.+elds will dissolve too soon," he said.

"Which means what?" asked Kaiza.

"Which means, your son will need to stay with me until I can train him to maintain these s.h.i.+elds himself," he said.

"You mean live with you as..." Kaiza began.

"As my patient, although since I'm teaching him secret techniques I suppose he could also be considered my student," Dr. Mabi said.

"How long until he needs to do this?" Kaiza asked.

"The sooner the better, but if you want to return home for a few days and pack his things and prepare him, it shouldn't be a problem. I'll just set up the mental s.h.i.+elds to give him some relief from the pain and effects," said Dr. Mabi.

"Is there no other way?" asked Kaiza.

"Not if you want him to live and grow into a strong and healthy Elf," he said.

"It's just, he's our first child and he's only five. His mother will be devastated," Kaiza said.

"I understand, the best I can offer is for you to rent a home here in the city and send Kaiza to me every day. You could also send him here during the week and then I can send him home for the weekend, either choice is fine," Dr. Mabi said.

"We don't have a lot of money, we can't afford a place in the city. I need to talk to my wife first. You said we could have a few days, how many exactly?" asked Kaiza.

"A week from today," he said.

"Very well, thank you Dr. Mabi," Kaiza said with a complicated look on his face.

"There's on more thing," said Dr. Mabi.

Kaiza looked up at the Dr. confused.

"Another thing?"

"Yes, the likely reason for your son's current situation is someone has already put up some mental blocks in his mind, it's like it's guarding parts of his mind. This seems to have stimulated the unprecedented development of your son," Dr. Mabi said.

"Someone put blocks in my son's mind?!" Kaiza was alarmed and fearful after hearing this.

"You didn't do this?" asked Dr. Mabi?

"Of course not, who could have done it?" Kaiza asked.

"I don't know, but they're a lot smarter and more technologically advanced than me. If they were more familiar with elf physiology they might have done this without messing things up like this. It's probably the work of a non-Elf genius." He said.

"Could it be the Samsara Pod?" Boval wondered. He always took it for granted the Samsara Pod did everything perfectly without any problems, but maybe the Pod needed the help of someone like BS42 to correct any flaws regarding unfamiliar species. If this were true then Boval was nervous, the Samsara Pod could either be a help or a hazard for him depending on the species involved.

"I guess I need to try to avoid getting killed while I figure things out," Boval thought.

As he was contemplating these things, he suddenly felt the presence of Tower disappear.

"Could Tower have died?! Maybe this is just a result of the problems he was having, but the Samsara Pod was a quasi-spiritual device. It couldn't be detected or affected by strictly physical objects. Shouldn't this mean Tower likely died? Boval became very frightened and sad at this possibility.

Even if he died, he has his own Samsara Pod, but I don't know how I or B'wriri will even be able to find him again. Boval became worried and sad at the prospect.

"Ok Boval, let's get started!" Dr. Mabi said.
