"I've had that happen before," said Aella, watching as he approached her with the sword still out.

"It wants to know why I didn't come sooner," he laughed.

"I've been a little busy," said Aella, crossing her arms.

"This is great! It understands everything I can't really talk to others about! Now I won't get those weird looks when I need to talk about things that I only understand!" he exclaimed, grinning.

"I bet if your dad wasn't sent away, he could have talked to you about those things," said Aella softly.

"Yea, probably," he sighed. "Let's go get some sleep so we can get back to work."

She teleported them back next to the open chest to the chicken world, and pulled him in with her, so they would appear at the same time.

"Your Majesty!" squawked the mimic in surprise, jumping back and losing some feathers. "I didn't know you would be bringing anyone anytime soon! You had said it would be a week before you would return!"

Aella gave him a funny look and glanced around. The room had changed again, having been expanded out and made more lavish. The bathroom was larger and could accommodate the crowd she had brought last time, and there appeared to be an actual kitchen, open to a dining area, for them to eat while they were here.

"What's going on?" she asked.

"I figured I had years down here, to rebuild this place into something much nicer. My next goal is to try and figure out a way to make the chest entrance larger so everyone doesn't take so long coming in. My other option would be to change the timing of the chest world to match that of the outside world, while you are bringing people in, and then change it back while you're here."

"Aella, who or what is this?" asked Alfred, giving the mimic a look.

"He's the guardian of the treasury and this world," said Aella, thinking about what the mimic had said. "I like the idea of changing the world's time while we are moving back and forth. How difficult is it?"

The mimic stuck his tongue out really far, and pulled a sticky wand from the copious amount of drool that fell to the floor.

"You just use this," he said, holding out the wand, strands of drool still trailing from either end of it.

Aella nodded, and said, "You can hold on to that. I really have no interest in taking it from you."

The mimic shrugged and swallowed the wand once again, then licked up all of the spilled drool with his long purple tongue.

"That was disgusting!" said Alfred, giving himself a shake and rubbing his arms.

"You get used to it," laughed Aella, amused at his reaction.

"I would rather not!" cried Alfred, giving her an incredulous look.

"May I ask why you are visiting?" asked the mimic, looking back and forth between the two of them, then his eyes went wide and he gasped. "Are you here to make him your mate?"

"What?!" exclaimed Aella and Alfred at the same time. "No!"

"Then…?" the mimic asked, looking confused.

"We are both here to sleep and take advantage of next to no time pa.s.sing in the other world," said Aella, shaking her head at the mimic's choice of words.

Alfred, her mate? No! He's a human! She couldn't believe that anyone would even think that. While she had plenty of options, she hadn't really made up her mind just yet on who she would have as her future mate, but she figured there were plenty of things to get done before she needed to worry about it.

"Ah, well, we've been working on the sleeping rooms, but I'm not sure they are up to par just yet. I guess you can use them, and let me know what you think," said the mimic thoughtfully.

"Are they still through the same door?" asked Aella, motioning to the door that had taken them to the room with all of the bunk beds and cots before.

"Yes," said the mimic, leading them over and opening the door.

Alfred stepped through first, and stopped short, making Aella almost run into him.

"What's wrong?" she asked, pus.h.i.+ng past him to see what had made him pause.

Instead of cots or bunkbeds, there were full size beds, similar to the one in her room in the palace. The mattresses looked soft and comfortable, and there were thick blankets spread over each one. Pillows were positioned against the head board of each bed, allowing the person who slept in the bed plenty of options when sleeping.

With a sigh, she turned to the mimic, "Why does it look so lavish? These are my generals and advisors, not foreign dignitaries and n.o.bles."

"Technically, Destov is a n.o.ble," said Alfred, moving over to one and sitting on it with a sigh of delight.

"I have grown up sleeping on stone floors and hard as rock mattresses," said Aella with a frown. "I can't stand sleeping on something this soft. It makes me feel as if I am suffocating."

The mimic nodded thoughtfully, and moved over to another bed, that was slightly larger than the others and yanked the blankets off of it. Pillows went flying everywhere. Then, grabbing the mattress, he pulled it off onto the floor, before throwing the blankets and pillows back onto the wooden frame of the bed.

"Will that do?" he asked, turning to look at her.

Aella pushed down on the wood, and found it to be solid. With a blanket or two between her and the wood, she thought it would be perfect.

"I would prefer to keep my mattress," said Alfred, watching as she scooted onto her bed and started positioning pillows and blankets in order to get comfortable.

"That's fine, I will have something prepared for you to eat, when you wake," said the mimic, leaving the room and shutting the door.

With a sigh, Aella settled down and quickly fell asleep. Waking with a start, several hours later, the sound of Alfred's soft snoring was the only noise in the room. Something had woken her though, so she climbed out of bed and went to investigate.

"I told you not to start until they were awake!" said the mimic in a strangled whisper.

A chicken wearing a chef's hat and a black ap.r.o.n, was holding a spatula and a frying pan.

"What's going on?" asked Aella, noting the bowl of eggs on the counter and a bowl of batter with a ladle beside it.

"I was going to have pancakes and scrambled eggs for you, when you woke, but this fool started already. Forgive me for waking you early," said the mimic.

"How do you have the chicken cooking with chicken eggs?" she asked, curiously.

"Oh, these aren't fertilized," clucked the chicken, as if that explained everything.

"What?" she asked, confusion plain in the tone of her voice.

"Well," said the mimic, giving her a look. "When you have a guy and a girl…"

"Wait, so these eggs… Never mind," she said, shaking her head and moving to the dining table. "I don't want to know."

"These eggs will never hatch, so they are available for other uses," explained the chicken, setting the pan down and reaching for the ladle in the bowl of batter.

Aella nodded, and watched as it expertly poured the batter into the pan, then proceeded to flip the pancake. She had never seen this before, and was entranced at the little bubbles that formed on the pancakes before they were flipped. Once a stack of pancakes was finished, the whole plate was brought to her with a small pitcher of syrup.

"Where did the syrup come from?" she asked, watching as the mimic poured the syrup over the pancakes.

"From the maple trees. I found all sorts of seeds and things to grow in one of the druid vestments," exclaimed the mimic excitedly, as he sat down next to her and watched her take her first bite.

"Wow!" she said, licking the syrup that had dripped off her fingers. "That is really good!"

Alfred stepped out of the bedroom, yawning and stretching, then stopped with a sniff. "Is that maple syrup I smell?"

"Yep," said the mimic with a grin.

"Wow! I haven't had maple syrup in a long time!" he exclaimed giddily, rus.h.i.+ng to the table and sitting down.

A second plate of pancakes was set before him and Aella watched as he all but drowned his pancakes in the sticky sweet stuff. How could he manage to do that? The stuff was so sweet! Taking several more bites, she started letting as much of the syrup drip off as possible. She loved the flavor, but it was so sweet, it was almost overpowering. When a huge platter of scrambled eggs was placed between them, Alfred scooped the eggs right into the middle of his syrup, stirring them up and eating them.

Aella grabbed a second plate to put her eggs on, and ate them plain, without the syrup. She found that if she alternated between the eggs and the pancakes, she could keep the sweetness down to a manageable level, and still enjoy the flavors.

"Thanks!" said Alfred, pus.h.i.+ng his empty plate away with a contented sigh. "Now I have to go run a million miles to work off all this energy!"

Aella shook her head as Alfred almost started to s.h.i.+ver. At least he would have plenty of energy to keep up with those demons as they traveled. She just hoped it wouldn't keep him too busy. There was still plenty of work to do.
