“I just read a news article. It says that a professor at F University has published a paper. He has achieved a great break-through in the research of recovering memory via genetic means.” Jin Xiangdong explained.
“Is it the news article about Professor Chen Ming from F University?” Jin Xianglan asked.
“Yes, Professor Chen Ming!”
“I saw that, too. His genome research has indeed achieved a great breakthrough. But as far as I know, it has not been applied to humans yet. His research field is electronic stimulation.” Jin Xianglan stated.
“Electronic stimulation! Sister, is this genome study really effective in the process of memory recovery?” Jin Xiangdong expressed his question.
“Though it has not been tested on humans yet, the result of trials on other animals has proven to be effective.” Jin Xianglan confirmed.
“If the memory loss was complete in nature, could the memory still be recovered even in such an extreme case?” Jin Xiangdong went on.
“It is said that, even if memory loss is complete, the lost memory can be recovered if electronic stimulation on genes is conducted!” Jin Xianglan interposed with her remark.
Jin Xiangdong was overjoyed to hear this. “Great. Thanks, sister!”
Jin Xianglan was wondering, “You are not trying to combine the genome study with your research on AI, are you?”
“That is worth contemplating!” Jin Xiangdong answered, smiling.
Jin Xianglan laughed. “If that is the case, you must pay for the idea.”
“No problem.” Jin Xiangdong was quite generous.
Jin Xianglan burst into laughter again. “How have you been feeling recently?”
“Very good.” Jin Xiangdong replied with a smile.
Jin Xianglan asked a seemingly casual question, “How about your girlfriend? Are you still dating?”
“We are living together.” Jin Xiangdong did not hide this information.
“You are living together?” Jin Xianglan sounded surprised.
Jin Xiangdong knew what his sister’s concern was. “I know what you are worried about. But she knows everything.” He tried to tailor his words to comfort her.
“You…” Jin Xianglan was shocked.
“Sister, I am happy now.” Jin Xiangdong interrupted with a smile.
“You are?” Jin Xianglan heaved a sigh. She told herself that she was hoping this happiness was not written in loose sand and that he would not pay a price for trying to make something lasting.
Jin Xiangdong’s mouth twitched as he said. “Sister, you sound as though you don’t want to give us your blessings?”
Jin Xianglan quickly denied it. “Of course I want to see you enjoy romantic love, just like a normal person. It’s just that…”
Aware of Jin Xianglan’s worry, Jin Xiangdong interrupted apologetically, “Because I am different from other people. Over the years, you and dad have been the most worried about me.”
“Surely you must be very fond of this girl. You have my blessing!” Jin Xianglan sighed.
Hearing this, Jin Xiangdong’s expression changed. If he were to tell her that, like him, his girlfriend was special, how would she react?
Presumably, she would not be able to accept it. Back in the day when he was about to undertake the operation, Jin Xianglan opposed it firmly. However, Jin Shengping insisted which resulted in Jin Xiangdong being the way he is today.
“Thank you, sister. When you are free, go back home and check on dad for me.” Jin Xiangdong said.
“We’ll see.” Jin Xianglan, however, sounded indifferent.
“Sister!” Jin Xiangdong insisted. He knew that the emotional estrangement between his father and sister was still unresolved.
Jin Xianglan had always been doting when it came to him. She compromised. “Fine, I know!”
Jin Xiangdong put on a smile. After he hung up the phone, he called Jason.
Jason, who was still asleep, answered the phone while drowsy,”What’s the matter? Why are you waking me up at this early hour!”
“Jin Xiangdong, Miaomiao is studying in the biology department at F University, right?” Jin Xiangdong asked his question without beating about the bushes.
“Yes, why?” Jason’s eyes were still closed as he mumbled through his answer.
“Okay, got it. Go back to your s.e.xy dreams!” Jin Xiangdong hung up his phone with that said.
Jason was baffled. That being said, he did not bother himself about it. He rolled over and fell back asleep.
Jin Xiangdong looked at the time. Instead of calling Yuan Miaomiao right away, he read the news report again and searched for other information.
When Lu Jia’er woke up, she failed to find Jin Xiangdong by her side. She got up and took a shower.
The warm water was sprayed on the porcelain skin on her face. The drops of water meandered down from her s.e.xy collarbones. She strokes her skin gently, her mind wandering.
“What are you thinking of?” She heard a familiar voice.
Without her even realizing it Jin Xiangdong had snuck up on her. She was about to turn around when he put his arms around her. The next second, she was held against him by his warm embrace.
His face was against hers and her back against his chest. Lu Jia’er replied, “I was thinking about you.”
“In what way were you thinking about me?” Jin Xiangdong whispered into her ear.
“With my heart.” Lu Jia’er put on a warm, tender smile.
“At this exact moment, I would prefer that you think about me with your body!” Jin Xiangdong’s smile turned erotic.
Uncontrollably, Lu Jia’er blushed. She wanted to turn around but Jin Xiangdong stopped her. He lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.
Shortly after, the bathroom was filled with a s.e.xual atmosphere. Jin Xiangdong’s prowess, in any regard, was beyond a doubt, including unlocking new positions in moments of intimacy.
Under his guidance, Lu Jia’er explored something new. Whenever she was with him, it only took a few short moments before she would feel as though her mind had blurred and she would lose her strength as her mind would slip away slowly.
Today, Jin Xiangdong was more excited than ever before. Under his influence, Lu Jia’er was short of breath. “What is it that made you so happy?”
Indeed, Jin Xiangdong was happy. “I found a potential lead related to recovering your memory.” He mentioned in a low voice.
When she heard this, Lu Jia’er’s wandering mind concentrated at once. “What is it?”
“Recovering memory via genetic means.” Jin Xiangdong replied.
Lu Jia’er was startled. “Genetic means?”
“Yes!” Jin Xiangdong breathed heavily.
Lu Jia’er did read some information on recovering memory via genetic means but her research was not thorough. All she knew was that the researchers reported that even by destroying molecules in the hippocampus that were involved in memory consolidation, memories could be restored through measures such as suggestive stimulation. The scientists behind the study put forward that even if historical memories were overwritten with new ones, the old memories were not necessarily lost. If successful, the study, which proposed the use of genetic means to restore memory, held promising prospects for treating mental disorders linked to memory disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia.
Lu Jia’er’s face blushed, rosy like peach blossoms in March, “But… but they haven’t achieved a breakthrough in this field yet!”
“I read a news article this morning. Professor Chen Ming from F University has made a tangible breakthrough in this area of research.” Jin Xiangdong was still breathing heavily.
“Really?” A trace of glow rose within the depths of Lu Jia’er’s eyes. Because of her excitement, her muscles tightened up.
Jin Xiangdong, who was behind her, groaned. Then, they were no longer conversing. Lu Jia’er made some gentle sounds to respond to him.
At a coffee shop.
Yuan Miaomiao was sitting at a seat next to the window. She checked the time. Then, she took out her mirror and checked her make-up again.
In the morning, she received a phone call from Jin Xiangdong, which surprised her. What was even more unexpected was that he asked to meet with her. Since then, her heart had been pounding.
At that moment, Jin Xiangdong entered the coffee shop. Yuan Miaomiao put away her mirror and waved at him.
Jin Xiangdong spotted her and walked over. He smiled at her and pulled over a chair to sit down.
He ordered a cup of Blue Mountain. Yuan Miaomiao asked, “Brother Xiangdong, what do you need to see me for?”
Jin Xiangdong went straight to the point. “Please introduce me to Professor Chen Ming.”
“Professor Chen Ming?” Yuan Miaomiao was confused.
“If I recall correctly, he is your mentor?” Jin Xiangdong said.
Yuan Miaomiao nodded. “Yes. Professor Chen Ming is my mentor. Brother Xiangdong, you are not attracted to him due to admiration of his increase in fame after reading this morning’s research report, are you?”
“Indeed, I am!” Jin Xiangdong said with honesty.
Yuan Miaomiao was delighted to hear this. “Brother Xiangdong, let me take the liberty to brag. I partic.i.p.ated in this research as well.”
Jin Xiangdong nodded. “I know.”
“You know?” Yuan Miaomiao’s eyes glistened.
“You are the star student of Professor Chen Ming. Though you are young, when you were a junior, Professor Chen Ming made an exception and let you join his research team.” Jin Xiangdong poured out the information he knew.
The fact that the man she liked for so many years knew something about her made her filled with joy. “Brother Xiangdong, you are interested in recovering memory via genes?”
“Yes, that is why I want you to introduce me to Professor Chen Ming!” Jin Xiangdong begged.
“No problem. But the professor is not in Beijing. He will be back next week.” Yuan Miaomiao said.
“Then arrange a meeting after he is back next week.” Jin Xiangdong said.
“Okay!” Yuan Miaomiao nodded with a smile.
