Long, far away from the arid deserts of the Great Sai, beyond the savannah plains and mountain steppes, are the great eastern jungles of Shurima. The cougars raised Nidalee as a forest creature, and over the years she became a skilled hunter. But while her guardians used teeth and claws, Nidalee learned to take advantage of everything around her. She made fruit-ointment ointments, used flowers that shone to light the night, and even explosive seeds to send trevoguaris in the air.

Even so, from time to time, Nidalee felt that she lost control over her own body. Suddenly, without warning, his hands and feet began to alternate between human form and beast form. Before the Kiilash could completely kill her, Nidalee leapt from the thicket, howling with rage and sadness. Something has changed. She felt the spirit of the jungle cats taking hold of her and changed as she had never changed. Attacking like a beast, she knocked the nearest hunter down with its sharp claws and then returned to human form to pluck his spear. Seeing this, the other Kiilash roared and hummed, and to his surprise Nidalee realized that he understood part of what they said.

They cursed her, calling on the names of their Vasthayshai'rei ancestors as they retreated empty-handed.

Leaving the spear aside, Nidalee held the dying cougar beside her. The brothers approached suspiciously, but with their mother's pa.s.sing, they came to regard the s.h.i.+fter as their new leader, and from that day on, she vowed to defend her foster home against any threat.

Over time, she learned to better control her powers and easily controlled her shape changes. Perhaps it was the desire to find others of her kind that led her to the wandering chameleon Neeko, but the fact is that the two became inseparable for a while. Nidalee loved to guide her curious new mate, and they both explored the many charms of the jungle together until Neeko set out to pursue his own destiny away from the lands of Shurima.

To this day, dense forests remain the last truly untamed territory in the world, and a kind of riddle even to Nidalee. Even so, in rare moments of tranquility, the hunter finds herself thinking of her own origins - and her encounter with the Kiilash - and if one day she will know the whole truth…..
