"Elizabeth…", Max's husky voice swept inside Liz's ear.

Liz closed her eyes and took a deep breath to compose herself.

They are holding each other in silence for several minutes now, and she finds that it's several minutes too long because images of his muscular back are flas.h.i.+ng in her mind when he was reaching for his s.h.i.+rt to dress up in Franciscan Medical Center… the day when they met. She stopped by after her interview to check on him… Liz told herself to stop those crazy thoughts, and she did… but unfortunately then she remembered his toned chests and abs which were revealed when he turned around to face her.

"Yes?", she asked in a whisper.

"I am sorry that you had to see something like that. Quentin and I go back a long way, but this time he crossed the line and… I feel very vulnerable at this point. It might sound selfish, but I am glad that you are with me right now."

Liz smiled in relief when she remembered: Quentin. There is no need for her to have crazy thoughts, because Max is with Quentin. And even if it's not Quentin, there will be another guy. She stopped patting his back and inched away.

"Don't worry about it. I'm happy to help. Let me know what I can do to make you feel better."

"Really?"

She could see that Max's eyes lit up.

"Of course.", Liz confirmed.

Max pulled her back into embrace and rested his chin on her shoulder. "Can we stay like this a bit more? It feels nice."

"Sure.", Liz resumed patting his back.

After some time, Max inched away and kissed her on the cheek. "Thank you. I needed that."

For a split second she felt awkward about the kiss, but then she realized that it's only a 'thank you' peck. She should not overthink it.

"You are welcome. Do you want us to finish the movie?"

Max shrugged. "I don't know… I missed quite a bit of it. And if we continue watching, it might bring out unpleasant thoughts of what just happened. How about we start a new one?"

He saw Liz's eyes s.h.i.+ft and he was confident that she is trying to find a way out of it, so he added in a small voice: "I could really use your company tonight."

Liz looked at his puppy eyes and saw sincerity in them. He definitely does not want to be by himself after his fight with Quentin. Well, it's not like she had other plans… "Sure. What kind of a movie you want to watch?" She glanced at the table. "Oh, the wine is over, and I'm out."

"Don't worry about the wine. I will get a bottle from my place. You pick a movie… Whatever you want."

Ten minutes later…

Max and Liz are on the sofa, the movie is starting.

"Liz… is it OK if I hold your hand?"

"OK." Liz didn't think much about it. They were hugging for more than five minutes, compared to that, holding hands is nothing, right? Right?

She was startled when he kissed her on the cheek again.

"Thank you for your company tonight.", he said with a charming smile and turned to watch the movie.

Liz thought how he should stop the kissing. And he does not need to thank her either… but he was finally smiling, and it was just a friendly peck… there is no point in spoiling his mood, so she didn't say anything.

Few minutes later, Liz felt Max's thumb caressing the back of her palm. She frowned slightly.

Max noticed. Of course, he did. He was watching her instead of the movie.

Max reached with his other hand and caressed the back of her palm openly. "Your skin is so soft, and I can't stop myself from touching it. I hope you don't mind." He lifted her hand to his face and inhaled. "And it smells very nice."

"Uhm… thanks.", Liz awkwardly responded. She thought that maybe he is interested in the hand cream she is using. Maybe.

She focused back on the movie.

Max smirked in satisfaction. By openly talking about the softness of her skin, she didn't think much of it… and he confirmed that his distraction worked because when he caressed her hand the next time, she didn't frown.

The movie was interesting, however, Max was focused on Liz. Little by little he inched closer until they were leaning on each other.

For Liz, she was too tired to pay attention to anything around her. It was late, she had a long day in the urgent care, and all that wine made her even drowsier. Considering that Max is gay, she does not need to worry about him doing anything inappropriate, so she relaxed.

More than once Liz thought of asking Max to leave so that she can sleep, but then she remembered that he is in distress, and that he said how he does not want to be by himself tonight, and she agreed to watch the movie with him, and… she slept off.

Max smiled when he observed that Liz is sleeping. They are holding hands, her head is resting on his shoulder, and she drooled a little on his t-s.h.i.+rt.

Max reached for the remote and turned off the television.

He scooped Liz in his arms carefully and carried her to the master bedroom.

The layout of her apartment is the mirror image of his, so he has no problems finding his way through it.

Max placed Liz on the bed gently, making sure not to wake her up and he laid next to her.

He observed her perfect sleeping face for a long time while thinking what to do. Max never had such a big conflict in his life. His thoughts ranged from pulling her close to him and kissing her to feeling her out to… he didn't think about just leaving. Leaving is not an option.

He touched her inviting lips gently and they parted slightly at his touch. d.a.m.nit! She is more alluring like this!

Max licked his lips and inched closer. The only thing on his mind was to kiss her. He knows that he has lady-melting skills. He can kiss a woman until she forgets herself and touch her so that she gives herself willingly… but he can't deny that Liz is special… she is perfect, and he does not want to mess this up.

Max moved to lay on his back and stared at the ceiling while fighting his urges to devour her.

Liz is sleeping peacefully next to Max in the bed, completely unaware that she is like a lamb next to a wolf. A very-very hungry wolf who is addicted to her scent.
