Accident Prone 94 Max Is Back To Work 1

That morning, Max woke up by the alarm at 6:30 AM.

The day started well: he was in Liz's bed, with her by his side, she was snuggling next to him, he kissed her face and before she went to the bathroom she kissed him as well (on the cheek, but it still counts).

He enjoyed the morning coffee with Elizabeth. He can do that every day and not get bored of it.

Max loves watching Elizabeth when she talks about her work. He whole face lights up and her eyes are sparkling. Liz's enthusiasm about reaching the top in her profession is contagious and that is one of the things which told Max that in order to be worthy of her, he needs to do his best at work as well.

Max's biggest concern was that Liz going to the Franciscan Medical Center means that she will be in the proximity of that sn.o.bby doctor, and Max will not be there to protect her. He voiced that concern, but he didn't want to push it too much out of fear not to suffocate her. Max told himself to chill. She survived so long because she knows how to reject unwanted advances, and advances of that sn.o.bby doctor are unwanted.

Max repeated silently few times that he is THE boyfriend and he should trust his girlfriend that she can manage, and that she will reach out if she needs help.

He sent her off to work with a kiss on the cheek, and she kissed him on the cheek as well before heading down the hallway.

Max watched her step into the elevator before closing the door and heading to get ready for his work.

He was in a good mood.

~ Seattle, Alpha group HQ ~

"Good morning, Foxy!", Max greeted his secretary who was busy on the computer, seated at the desk in front of his office.

Foxy is a woman in her mid-forties. Always neatly dressed in a business suit with her dark brown hair pulled into a perfect bun.

In Alpha group HQ, Foxy is something like a mother-figure to Max, caring for him but not afraid to scold him when needed.

Her full name is Nicole Foxwell, and friends call her Foxy. She works as a secretary in Alpha group for more than two decades and her dedication to work allowed her to climb all the way to the top floor where CEO and the most important directors have their offices.

Since Max started shadowing his father, more than five years ago, Foxy was a.s.signed as his secretary. And because he is not regular at work (and even when he comes he is not doing anything useful), she ended up being a backup secretary for Nathan (Max's father). If it's anyone other than Max, she would be rea.s.signed, but Nathan always hoped that Max will come around and return to work (for real).

Hearing the familiar voice, Foxy froze and lifted her gaze in slow motion. Foxy looked at Max blankly for few seconds before pus.h.i.+ng her spectacles higher up the bridge of her nose.

Foxy knows that Max is very smart, but why is he using his intelligence to aggravate his father is beyond her. She firmly believes that Max can take over the company and lead it to the bright future, only if he would stop acting like a defiant teenager.

She looked at him and observed his finely pressed business suit and clear gaze and she can't believe that he came to work. "I think I am dreaming…"

"Oho! I didn't know that you are dreaming about me.", Max said cheekily.

"Nightmares.", Foxy sneered. "Why are you here?"

"Come on, Foxy… I work here."

She rolled her eyes. "You came to work? Did the sun rise on the West? Are pigs flying? Or did you switch bodies with someone responsible? Don't play with my heart, it can't take it."

"I am not playing. I am a changed man and I came to work. I expect you in my office in five minutes with my schedule for the day." Max gave her a knowing look and walked into his office.

Max frowned. "Is that what you are thinking of me?"

"If you are implying that I see you as a brilliant and irresponsible man who thinks that he can play around and waste his potential then… yes."

Max inhaled sharply. How can Foxy be so… direct? But she is right. And if she says this into his face, he does not want to know what the others are saying. He sighed while thinking how he has a lot of image-fixing work ahead of him, but first thing first…

"No one is pregnant."

Foxy narrowed her eyes. "But there is a girl."

Max paused before he smirked. "Nathan told you."

Foxy grinned. "Of course, he told everyone. Honestly, I was expecting you few weeks ago and since you didn't come I was losing hope. Did you break up? Or are you engaged? Must be something extreme that pushed you to show up here… you said that she is not pregnant…", Foxy mused.

Max made a face. "I told you to come with my schedule."

Foxy shrugged. "There is none. Who will schedule meetings or anything else with the man who does not come to work?"

Max sighed. "Sorry, Foxy. I know that my neglect impacted you the most. I promise that I came to change things."

"I know that you have your way with words, so I don't believe what you say. But I hope that you will prove it to me."

"Look forward to it." Max thought what to do. His calendar is empty, but this is one of the possibilities he accounted for. "Give me Nathan's schedule."

Foxy smiled. She likes Max's confidence. "I will be back in few…"

Max looked around his office and observed that nothing changed. Everything is exactly how he left it.

He rotated his chair and enjoyed the view of downtown Seattle. He wondered if Liz would like it as well. They have a great view from their penthouses, but this provides a different angle.

Max got his phone and sent Liz a message, asking how her day is going. A big smile bloomed on his face when he saw her response about thirty seconds later.

Max walked down the long hallway and greeted his father's secretary who looked at him apprehensively from behind her desk. Max can tell that the woman is wondering what trouble he will cause now, and the only thing preventing her from frowning is that she is dazzled by his charming smile.

"Should I announce you?", she asked when she realized that Max is not moving and looking at her.

"No. Let me surprise him.", he responded.

She waved him to go ahead. "CEO is by himself."

Max stood in front of Nathan's office and read the s.h.i.+ny plaque at the door:

"Alpha group CEO

Nathaniel Anderson"

Max touched the plaque and silently told himself that soon the plaque will say:

"Alpha group CEO

Maximilian Anderson"

Soon. And then he will bring Liz here and proudly show her that he can do it. He smiled while imagining her expression of approval. Will she hug and kiss him? Probably. By then they will be no strangers to kissing, and maybe more. Max reminded himself to focus. He came here to work, not to get lost in daydreaming.

Max knocked on the door.

"Come in!", Nathan's voice sounded from the inside.

Max got in and saw the sight which greeted him every time he entered this office: Nathan behind his desk, busy with doc.u.ments.

Nathan didn't look at who entered, thinking that it's his secretary because everyone else would be announced and based on the deep frown on Nathan's face, Max guessed that he is looking at something important and probably troubling.

Max cleared his throat. "Good morning, CEO Anderson."

Nathaniel paused before slowly lifting his gaze toward the voice. He released papers from his hands and leaned back into the leather chair.

Nathan is happy that Max is here. Based on his outfit and the folder he is holding in his hand, Max came to work. But… with what agenda? Nathan has difficulty believing that Max decided to be responsible. Sure, he has a girlfriend and the word is that he stopped womanizing, but is he here with an intention to take this company seriously? Maybe he came to ask for something. It would not be the first time that the rascal (aka Max) shows up, Nathan gets his hopes up and as soon as Max softened up his father and got what he wanted he stopped coming to work. Rascal.

Nathan told himself not to jump into conclusions and to keep his temper in check. He will give Max a chance, as always… because no matter how slim is the possibility that Max is serious, Nathan does not want to ruin it.

"Interesting day. Hunter tells me that he is taking a day off, and you are here… Which brings me to the question: why are you here?"
