Eve

"I want to see you fly."

He released me from his warm embrace and stood up. My head looked on the ground at his shadow. He started walking away from me, slowly. It hurt a little because I was having a feeling I won't be able to see him again. There was a strange feeling inside me that wanted him to ignore my words and stay with me.

His shoes stopped making that certain noise they were making while tapping on pebbles on the ground. I raised my head to look towards him. That kid had stopped a little farther from me. His black coat, long enough to cover his legs, started dancing as the little breeze of the winds.

He turned his head towards me. His long silver white hair having bangs parted on either side of his face shone bright under the light of the moon. His dark green eyes, still visible in the little light of stars, burnt with the flare that I had never seen anywhere in my life. Just then, I saw a few drops of tears, s.h.i.+ning like pearls, dropping down his eyes. He was crying. But he soon closed his eyes and gave me the sweetest heartwarming smile.

He turned his head forward again and raised it to look above. He raised his right hand in an instant pointing it upwards towards sky. The same moment, something white came out from the centre of his back. That thing parted itself from the middle and split to form two wings. His wings were more whiter than the wings of a dove can ever be.

Those wings spread themselves afar. He moved down his hand, bent his legs a little, getting ready for the flight. He leaped forward and flapped his wings. The winds his wings created forced me close my eyes. When I opened my eyes and looked at same spot, he was gone.

I raised my head to look towards the sky. He was flying. His wings were glittering with a l.u.s.tre while gliding him in air. He was soaring towards the heaven. The sight of that angel rising towards the heaven was soothing my very soul until he disappear within the clouds.

Gloominess started to surround my heart. Light of the moon started to fade as my sight blurred. Darkness pulled me within its grasp. I couldn't see anything. I couldn't hear anything.

And I woke up.

I looked around my room. It felt unreal how one moment I was at that place and the other I was back in my room. It has been years since I started having these dreams. Every time, it feels unreal. For years, that kid have come to me at night in my dreams and took away my peaceful slumber.

It's not that I hate this dream. The warmth of his embrace, swooning sight of his flight and the sorrow of his never return feel more than real. I never feel such heartfelt feelings in the outside world. It's just the eternal mystery of the dream that saddens me. The fact that I would never be able to know anything about it ever makes me want to stop dreaming.

Angels. I believe in the angels. I know they are among us helping us from the shadows. They disguise themselves so that we can't point them out but yes they do exist. It's not my blind faith, it's the trust that lies in my heart about their existence. I always had believed, I always will.

I snapped out of my thoughts. I turned on the lamp. The green light of the clock coming out from near the lamp told me that time was 5:50.

It was too early to take up but I knew I won't be able to sleep now. The sun had not risen and it would be waste to wake up so quickly and not look at that beautiful sight. I got up and folded my blanket. My mind wondered how shocked my mother would have been if she saw me do it. I imagined her eyes widening as she entered my room and see my room all clean. That made me laugh a little.

Before my room always used to be messy and I got scolded every day. I didn't like that scolding ever but I was a spoiled brat and deserved it. After mom used to get tired of scolding, she would help me pick up my mess. She was just too sweet and maybe her sweetness was the reason that she was the second closest person in my life.

I turned on the lights of kitchen and made myself latte. How can anyone start their day without taking in this delicious drink. I loved latte. Lucy used to make the best latte ever. I missed her latte. Well, I missed Lucy more. Lucy was my little, cute, adorable sister. She would have turned 17 in 5 weeks from now. If only...

I missed them all so much. Why did they have to leave me all alone? Why didn't they took me with them? My life was so empty without my family.

Jerking away those thoughts, I went back to my room and fetched a book from the bookshelf that was placed near my bed. I opened the gate that lead to the balcony. Did I say before the air outside my room was d.a.m.n cold? Forgive me. The air from outside was the one that comes in d.a.m.n category. It sent s.h.i.+vers down my spine and my whole body.

My room was almost perfect. Along with the attached bathroom, it a balcony too. From there, I could see our backyard, the trees of the forest directly the front, a little distance away from the fences. There was no threat of animals coming near the house because they lived deep within the forest. Never have I ever seen any wild animal even enter our backyard. Though I've heard a few animals like wolves and owls at night. And the best part about my balcony was the breathtaking view of sunrise and sunset too.

I sat down on the carpet, still trying to adjust my breath to the cool air. I pulled down the sleeves of my sweater and covered my hands. The hot latte helped in heating up my body as it reached my stomach and spread it's heat. I heard the birds sing together with their beautiful chirps.

I opened the book and read a few paragraphs but for some unknown reason, I wasn't in a mood to read. Reading stories is my pa.s.sion but that time I didn't felt that urge. It wasn't books fault. It was something else. Something unexplainable. I put the book down so that I can relax.

I saw a vision, daydream maybe. I saw that same kid looking at me with his emerald green eyes, smiling at me and silently crying through his tears. Then he took the leap and started flying. I've had this dream for like forever, I've thought about it a lot in my days but never in my life I saw a vision about it.

I stood up and looked down the balcony to the green gra.s.s that had grown tall because of my neglection. I made a note in my mind that I will cut it on sunday. But then I started drawing a picture of that kid in my mind. It was fascinating how much details I remembered. I could almost imagine him stand right there. I was going mad.

The kid I imagined standing there jumped. He started flying towards the sky and again lost in the sky like in dream, as I stood there blankly staring at clouds. Just then, the clouds roared. There was no lightening but there was the sound of thunder. My ears pointed that thunder originated from the clouds in front of my sight. Winds started to flow in circles around that certain point up there. It gradually became a vortex. It was like a small singularity that in the cloud. It looked like a hole. Perhaps some super strong fantasy character released a mythical arrow towards the clouds and made a hole in them.

An black object came out from that hole. I looked carefully and realized it was a person dresses in black. Long silver hair on his head started floating as he was turned upside down while falling. He had something black attached to his back. It looked like a wing. His face was away from me but I knew what he was.

Angel!

He was an angel!

Just then, another hole appeared in sky. Far away to the north side from the first hole. Many other holes started appearing in the clouds nearby simultaneously. I didn't count them but my eyes could see like a dozen of them. One hole to the right side of first one was nearest to me.

Other angels came out from those holes. But unlike the first one they all had white wings. They fell for a little time like they had tripped down and were trying to find the balance. Soon they got in control. They spread their wings and started flying. The sight of angels flying in the sky was literally breathtaking. The way they were flapping their wings like they were some human-birds made my mind race with million thoughts.

What I won't do to get those wings and be able to fly.

My thoughts was interrupted when my sight moved a little down and I saw that first angel dresses in black still falling. The same moment, sun rose in the horizon. He was falling while sun was rising. It was funny and yet beautiful.

His black wing that was spread afar and curled and wrapped itself around him. It was like it was hugging him. That moment I realized, he only had one wing.

His face turned towards me while he was falling. The time somehow slowed down. I could make out from afar that his were closed like he was enjoying the feel of winds. There was some sort of serenity on his face. It was like he have had enough of his life and he wanted to die.

Death is never the way. It's solution to nothing. The weak ones, cowards, who are afraid to do things to make their life better, choose death. All my life, I've thought of angels as strong. I've thought of them as brave souls who would stand up against everything to help others. I've thought of them as the one who rise to life, not fall to death. And this angel was allowing himself to be weak. I never imagine even in my wildest dreams that angels could be weak and cowards.

"Fly! You idiot. Or you're just gonna die." I screamed my lungs out. Though he almost had travelled half the distance towards ground, he was still far away from me. It would be hard for my words to reach him. Nevertheless I screamed. I couldn't just stand at the side silently and watch him do this horrible thing.

He opened his eyes in an instant. It was like he heard me. His wing spread itself afar in the sky again and flapped. It seemed to lower his speed but he was still falling down. How was he gonna fly with only one wing? His wing steered him towards me. I don't know if he was just trying to get to me or he was trying to slow his fall.

That must be a coincidence, I thought. But as I looked at him carefully, I was sure he was trying to fly towards me. His hand was pointing towards me as if he wanted to grasp me. I wondered if he would reach the ground first or me. All I could do was watch.

He came closer to me. His expressions were of wanting something with desperation. I saw the sight of angel from so close in disbelief, thinking it might be just a dream. But it wasn't. He couldn't reach me and fell in my backyard.

Just then my mind realized that he was the only angel with a black wing. Others had white wings. Moreover, he had just one wing. I wondered

Was he even an angel?
