It was so embarra.s.sing when I realized that my aunt was right there when Black kissed me on my lips. And he... He just used the same excuse of stolen kisses. I was almost sure that he was not thinking about any game at all. Aunt Emi's gaze made me want to dig a hole and bury myself. I've felt embarra.s.sed before but this was the most embarra.s.sing moment of my life.
I glared at him in anger. Black just smirked back at me. I didn't dare to look at my aunt again. I just looked down on the blanket to avoid my aunt but I could feel two gazes on me. One from Black and one from her. It made the situation even more embarra.s.sing.
Why the h.e.l.l both of you looking at me!? I didn't do anything! I was, in fact, the victim.
I gave up and raised my head. By then, even my aunt had tatted smirking at me. I wriggled my brows, asking her silently to stop it but she kept those gloating expressions.
"I'll be going down then. Continue with whatever you were going to," aunt Emi stood up and it appeared that she was leaving. I sighed in relief. But she stopped and walked towards us instead. She tried to take Luna with her but the baby won't let go of my Black. "Don't do such things in front of Luna. Though she's just a child and wouldn't understand anything, she might get in the way. You almost suffocated her, Eve."
Why me again? Luna wasn't hugging me to sleep. She was hugging Black. But I couldn't even reply to anything in my defence.
I swear that was the first time I felt that my aunt was some evil creature. She kept teasing me. Though she was looking at both of us, Black acted as if it was all natural. He was so shameless. Or to be more precise, he was just a bird brain. He lacked common sense. Perhaps he still thought that the game stolen kisses is a real game! A thought crossed my mind that what if he started playing this game with others. My face reddened because of embarra.s.sment. I should tell him soon that this game is only to be played by 'more than friends'.
I looked at Black while my aunt tried to pull the baby off his chest. He looked at me back. I helplessly silently pleaded him to diffuse this embarra.s.sing situation. I was glad he could understand me.
"Did you eat yet? Ma'am?" Black spoke up in a formal manner this time. My aunt was a little surprised at this sudden question and sudden mannerism.
"I didn't..."
"Then you stay here and you can talk to Eve. I guess it's been a while since you both met. I'll prepare something." Black softly said.
"Go to your mom, little girl." Black then whispered to the Luna and surprisingly, Luna let him go as he spoke that. Though she was still sleeping, her grip weakened. Aunt easily got hold of Luna then. She was astonished again.
"How did you do that?" My aunt asked.
"Haha... It's magic." He laughed up. He was really showing off in front of her. He got off from the bed and just started walking out without bothering to put his s.h.i.+rt on.
"Your clothes are there." I reminded him and he groaned. I could hear his silent reluctance. But he did wear his clothes. I don't know if it was out of respect for my words or he too was embarra.s.sed. I think it was the former.
"He's quiet... Strange," my aunt said. Her eyes had a complex look at she looked at him departing. She put Luna on the bed and stared at me.
"When are you gonna tell me your story now? I'm very curious," aunt Emi asked me.
I didn't know how to make up the story. I'm the end I told her that half-baked story I had told my friends. About how I met him walking by in the park and our hair had the same natural colour and we instantly got well together. This time I said it with much more confidence. But she too caught my lie. She hard pressed me to tell her everything but I couldn't just say that 'He is an angel and he fell in my backyard. He was wounded and I took care of him. We had complicated past I don't know of and just like that we fell in love.'
I kept mute on truth. Eventually, she gave up and we started talking about other things. After a while, Black shouted loudly from the kitchen that the food was ready. I went downstairs. She followed me after a while, saying that she was placing Luna such that she wouldn't fall.
My aunt was in a little bad mood because I wouldn't tell her anything so I was hoping that his awesome food would make her mood better. After all, the stomach is the way to a woman's heart.
He had prepared tacos this time. The awesome smell attacked the receptors in my nose the moment I walked into the kitchen. I was sure that it was another masterpiece of my master chef.
We all sat down on the table and started eating. My aunt's eyes lit up when she tasted the taco. She praised him for his talent. But from the side, I could see she was, however, a little wary of him.
"Who are you?" my aunt asked him while eating.
"What do you mean?" Black really didn't get the question but I got it. My aunt wanted to know about his origins. After a brief pause, Black replied. "I'm Black."
"We both know it's not your real name. It's just something you made up." my aunt continued. At that moment, I actually felt even more embarra.s.sed than before. I wanted to tell my aunt that your niece names him like that but I kept my thoughts to myself.
"It is my real name," Black replied with heavy expressions this time. He was a little... Angry?
"Ok. Let's say that it is your real name. Hmm... Where do you come from?" my aunt continued.
"I can not tell you that."
"Okay... What do you do?"
"I can not tell you that either."
"Can you tell me why you can't tell me anything I ask?"
"No, I can not," Black simply replied with a no without giving any further information. My aunt's expressions had darkened by that time.
"I was the one who used to tell her that she should get a boyfriend but I guess I regret it a little after seeing you. To be honest, I don't trust you. You appear like.. those pretty playboys who scam girls." I almost laughed loudly when I heard my aunt say that but I restrained myself and didn't make a sound. Outside, my face was stern but inside I was trying too hard to depress my laughter. Black indeed looked like one of those.
"But I don't think you've come here to scam my little Eve. So then, why did you come here? I can't make that up. You're like a weirdo and you give this mysterious and unusual vibe."
"The question remains, why are you here? Is it love? You call herself her husband and I can see she doesn't reject you at all. Eve is a little naive. I can bet she didn't ask you anything and she trusts you. But I'm not her. I have to ask you all these things so that I can make sure you're worth her. So that I can know that you will not mistreat little Eve. As her guardian, I can't bring myself to trust you."
I felt warm in my heart that my aunt was so caring towards me. It feels nice to have someone caring for you that much. I realized her concerns but I realized it too that Black can not tell her anything.
"I understand you," Black nodded.
"So once again, I can do nothing else but to give you a chance. Can you tell me anything about yourself that can or might gain my trust?"
"Um... I'll be frank with you. I'm not one of the scammers. I'm not any criminal either. Yes, I stay with my Eve. Black is my real name. I was an orphan. I had no name before. Eve blessed me with a name."
"I met Eve by coincidence actually. To be more honest, Eve had saved my life before she was adopted. She saved my life again a few weeks ago. And I owe her too much. I'm a poor man. I only have love to give her. I apologize that I can't tell you where I come from but I can tell you where I'm going to stay. I'm going to stay with Eve. For the rest of my life."
"I understand you don't trust me. You can kick me away and I'll silently go. But I'll keep coming back every day until you trust me. I do believe that I can definitely take her away with me and you can't stop me. But I also respect you and your concerns and I won't do that. I apologize that I cannot tell you what I do. But I can tell you what I want to do. I only want to keep her happy."
"I've told Eve everything that I have hidden from you." Aunt Emi looked at me and I nodded. Black then continued, "Perhaps one day, I'll tell you everything too. But not today. Today, I can only tell that I wish to spend the rest of my life with my Eve."
There was another burst of warmth in my heart. Every word Black said echoed in my mind. I felt so good hearing him say such beautiful words in such a beautiful voice. Especially his last line. He hadn't said those three magical words but he did tell me about his intentions. It felt really nice to see two persons fighting each other with words because they both cared for me. I felt so blessed to have such a family that I felt like crying.
They both stayed silent and looked at each other in the eyes. Black's gaze was filled with determination and my aunt's gaze was piercing as if she was attempting to see through him. They stayed like that for a while. The atmosphere was tense until my aunt sighed and replied.
"I guess I can trust you a little with that... But just a little."
"Thank you." Black humbly bowed his head a little. At that moment, little did my aunt know that the strongest angel was bowing in front of her.
