"What do you mean?" he looked startled when he heard my question. Probably wondering why I even asked that at the first place.
"I mean exactly what I'm saying."
He didn't reply. I guess he was trying to understand the meaning behind my words.
"I just realized that I've seen you before." I continued. His green eyes widened. Those eyes of his were as expressive of his inner thoughts as his facial expressions. I liked it. A slight twitch in his lips wasn't unnoticed to my eyes. He seemed happy as he heard that.
"Where?"
"I've seen you in my dreams. Not just once or twice but many countless times."
"What do you remember? I mean what did you see in your dreams." he words followed in an instant. You know when you tell kids story and if you stop all of a sudden, they say they want to hear more of the story with that certain excitement in their voice. They would probably be ready to kill you if you don't tell them more stories. It's cute but this behaviour from that all grown up man was irritating. I wasn't telling him a story. Well it was kinda a story but it was true. Gosh it was irritating. He was such a brat.
"I see dreams that a child, almost this tall," I set my right hand midway in air to show the height. "I guess he was 12 years old. He walked away from me and white wings came out of his back. He then flew towards the sky and disappeared within the clouds. That child had silvery white hair with bangs, wearing a black coat. Exactly like your kid version. Well your now version too, you're still a kid having a puffed up body."
"Hey I'm not a kid."
"You're missing the point, you fool." he really irritated me. I rarely say words like these.
'So, you don't see anything else, in your dreams?" he asked, still curious about it.
"d.a.m.n no! I would have told you already if I did," Though I sort of lied. I didn't yell him that that kid was hugging me. But it was kind of embarra.s.sing to tell so. A girl got her private things she won't share you know. "It was you, wasn't it?"
"Yeah, It was me." a couple of tears escaped his eyes again. He was such a crybaby. There wasn't anything to cry about.
"I apologise for being like this." First bring a baby and then trying to be a gentleman. Such a stupid fellow." I'm just so happy that you remember at least something."
"You mean to say that it actually happened!?"
"Indeed."
I know I had amnesia when my parents adopted me and I didn't remember anything from my childhood, except my name and those basic things. I was thirteen then when mom and dad found me wandering alone in a forest. They told me they had gone to hiking and I stumbled right in front of them. They did a lot of things for me even though I was a stranger. Took me to hospital to somehow cure my insomnia, searched for my parents for years and they kept me with them at home instead of handing me over to the authorities. Who knows where I would have ended up.
I gave them a lot of tough time. I didn't know who my real parents were or where was my hometown or if I knew anyone. But I didn't feel it was of any importance. At the end when nothing was working, they adopted me, officially too. My new family just felt like my real family. All these years we spent together, they never made me feel like I was not a part of them. Their feelings for me as their daughter were real. That was my home. My real home.
My life went smoothly like an ordinary girl. I even made a free friends though it was hard because I was a shy girl.
I never looked back or tried to imagine how my life was before.
But knowing I had met a real angel before I had amnesia shocked me. I wondered for the first time how my life was and what kind of memories I might had back then. What ticked me more was that it was the only memory that took from of a dream. Couldn't all memories come to me. Why just him and him alone?
I guess there was something about him. Something special.
"So what's your real name, angelheart?"
"You don't know my name? But I thought you knew me by the way you keep crying on looking at me as if I was some long lost friend and calling me angelheart." I felt a little down. I had hopes that he could tell me about how I was. Well I'd just have to do what I have been doing. Keep making new memories and accepting the old ones when they come knocking at my door.
"Well our meeting was short and I never got to know your real name. That's why I gave you a nickname."
"I'm not telling my real one."
"But why?" he groaned. He seemed disappointed and I had real fun in watching him like that. That's what he gets for irritating me so much.
"Because there's something exist that is known as manners. You tell your own name before asking the other person for theirs."
"I know that. But to be honest, I don't have a name. You see, I can't tell even if I want."
"You've got to be kidding. You must have a name. Everyone does. You can't be nameless." He can't be, can he? The thought echoed in my mind.
"I'm not kidding. So will you tell me your name. Pretty please, with cherry on top." he said with that innocence on his face and a smile reaching his ears. He gave me that look kids give when they want a candy. It was unbelievable how childish he was at heart even when he had grown so strong and manly.
"I'm Eve. Eve Risa."
"Eve." he repeated with his eyes closed. As if he was trying to take it all in. It was funny to watch him like that. My name is small and he didn't need to understand it or take it in the way he was doing. "You've a beautiful name Eve." he said with another wide smile.
"Why thank you. It's your turn now. I really want to know what is your name. What do your friends call you as? They must have given you some sort of nick name like you've given me. "
"Umm.. I don't have friends. But people have given me a lot of nick names. But I know about you and you won't ever use them."
"Tell me! Pretty please with a cherry on top. Or two cherries. If not enough, as much as you like." my words brought another smile on his face. Perhaps that's what we all call blissful expression.
"I'll tell you later. Because I'm going to pa.s.s out any moment now."
"Why would you pa.s.s out? You seem in a good shape."
"Trust me. I'm not healed completely yet. That fall took out a lot from me. I would have been dead if not for you. It's hard to explain exactly and I'll tell you about this later too. But I'm gonna be alright after some rest."
"Ok if you say so." I was happy that he was going to be alright. He made me really worried before when he got a fever and he won't wake up.
"Do you need to eat something? You haven't eaten for days."
"I'm too tired to eat but it's ok. I'd eat tomorrow. Not that hungry anyway." I soon realized he looked tired. His eyes were not as wide as before. He wasn't kidding when he said he isn't fully healed. "By the way, did you feed me some coffee?"
"Yeah I did. How do you know that?" For some reason, it was embarra.s.sing. Blood rushed to my face. I knew I was getting red.
"I could taste it on my tongue. Coffee remennants. I just wish I was awake to taste that delicious coffee."
"It wasn't exactly that good." It was such a big lie. That was the best coffee I had made in my life. I guess in my heart, I liked his compliments.
"You don't know anything about taste. It was really delicious. You can taste it again if you want." he slightly opened his mouth and poked out his tongue. He smirked. My heart raced knowing he asked me to taste by kissing him. I felt the heat radiating out of my face. Redder than a tomato I must have been. That idiot. Mocking me. I wished I had not given it to him. I so wanted it all for myself.
"Umm... Can I ask you for a favor?" he said. His fingers moving in a circle on the blanket.
"I guess so." I could at least listen to whatever thing he might be thinking.
He leaned forward as if he wanted to whisper something in my ear. I got closer to him too so I could listen.
"Hold me tonight... Angel Eve..." he softly said rested his head on my shoulder. Angel Eve. It sounded nice and brought a smile on my face. I soon realized what favor he had asked me.
"What?" I questioned but he didn't reply. I pushed him away there just to find out he had really pa.s.sed out.
Now that was quick.
I wondered if I should do as if he asked me. I wasn't going to stay near him whole night. It won't be appropriate I guess. His head seemed lifeless and it leaned towards me again. I placed it right over my chest. He was hugging me even though he was asleep. It brought back memories when I was a child and used to sleep near mother. I looked at him again, he looked so alluring. His innocent face was making me change my decision of not staying there. All I wanted that time was to keep watching his smiling face.
I had to clean the dinner table, but I stayed there. I had to wash dishes, but I stayed there. I had planned to read a few pages, but I stayed there. I wanted to double check the lock on the main door, but I stayed there.
I turned off the lamp and rested my head on the pillow. He was below the pillow but leaning against me, his head placed over my stomach. I covered both of us with the blanket. It felt warm. Not just warm as in case of heat but warm as in feelings.
At that moment, it felt like he belonged right there near me.
At that moment, it felt like I belonged there, in his arms.
