Alex drank a few mouthfuls of the pure energy attribute filled water, but the water soon became ineffective on him. He still needed around eighteen more dots worth of pure energy attribute to improve his Energy Affinity to Grade A.
The cactus like doll actually began to form a cute little face after swimming in the water. It reminded Alex of a plushy version of a pokemon back on earth. The light green cactus absorbed all the water that appeared in that little underground pond and then stood up.
It looked around to search for more water, but when it failed to find any, it quietly jumped in an acrobatic fas.h.i.+on amd landed on Alex's shoulder. Sitting as if it owned the place. Alex wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry, but seeing the playful childishness of the cactus, Alex sighed amd simply began to continue on his journey.
The Arrow continued to point straight ahead, and Alex blankly walked through the desert. Occa.s.sionally various creatures would come attack him, but completely ignored the cactus and the cactus also simply sat on Alex's shoulder like it was watching some kind of show.
However, whenever Alex felt tired and dehydrated from the heat, the cactus would magically replenish him by gently poking its little fingerless hand on Alex's cheek.
Eventually, Alex could see a distant land rising up towards the sky in the desert. Alex's first thought was to wonder if it was a mirage, but then Alex's eyes lit up. Could this be a shelter?
Alex became exceedingly cautious and very slowly got near to the shelter. As he inched closer, he could see traces of humans entering in and out of the shelter.
Alex was stunned. Humans? There was no known shelter that belonged to humans in the First Card Dimension that was set in a desert. Alex was confused, and decided to carefully wait till the night to head in the direction of the shelter.
When the sun sank, night overtook the sky and Alex activated his Dark Shadow peak grade card. With this card, he was now a complete master of the night, invisible and undetectable even if light were s.h.i.+ned on him. As long as the sun was set, he would be hidden.
With the help of the arrow, whose direction hadn't changed a bit, Alex managed to position this shelter of humans on the map, far away from Highland shelter.
He quietly walked towards the shelter, making no sound at all. On the way he actually found a group of humans walking back while grabbing the carca.s.ses of a few monsters. When Alex tried to hear them, he was shocked. He couldn't identify the language.
Alex's eyes dulled. A completely unknown language and an unknown human shelter. Perhaps... these humans weren't from earth? Alex had heard from Old Ren about the existence of other galactic civilizations of human beings spread across the world. In fact it was one of these civilizations that discovered earth and introduced the technology to enter the Card Dimension.
Alex saw that he looked exactly like these alien humans. However, none of them used swords. They all seemed to be holding weapons that appeared to look like a flute. Alex quietly followed the group and saw a small monster attack them. One of the people immediately took out the flute and whistled through it, causing the monster to be stunned, taking out a card of the water element which turned into a choker that clamped around the monster's neck and choked it to death.
Alex was momentarily stunned by the music, but a tiny vibration spread throughout his body, immediately bringing him out of the daze. He was shocked and a little bit of fear crept in his eyes. If he hadn't turned completely invisible and hadn't practiced painful vibrations, he might have been hypnotized and slaughtered as well.
The group continued and Alex followed them. He couldn't understand what they were saying, but he realized that this was a civilization that depended heavily on sound. Electronic items could not be used inside the Card Dimension, so these people seemed to have created sets of natural tools to do work for them using sounds..
Alex quietly sneaked into the shelter. Having generated a rank 2 card improved his physique tremendously and he could hold onto Dark Shadow for a long time. What worried him initially was the cactus doll, but it seemed to have been enveloped by the shadow as well and was quiet as a cat.
Alex quietly spent the night roaming through the shelter. The language was unknown to him and so he could only look around try to learn as much as he could without interacting with anyone.
In the darkness, Alex walked into a crusty looking alley, that was probably a black market. He didn't expect much, but he hoped he might find some useful way to understand these humans.
He found most of the establishments closed, however there seemed to be a small dusty inn that was open. Alex was going to ignore it like usual before leaving when he heard words. Words from Earth, the English Language of the federation!
Alex quietly entered the inn and stood in the corner. He was invisible and there was no way the two people in the inn could know someone had entered.
"...Let's explore the eastern frontier tomorrow. May be we can find a way to head back to Earth." One voice said.
"You should forget about these things and try to integrate into this society. I spent years trying to find a way out through this desert, where it is impossible to even grow stronger."
"You just gave up because you found a wife here." The first voice whispered back with hate. "I need to return to my family... How many years have pa.s.sed, I can't keep them waiting."
Alex was shocked and a little stunned. Just who were these two? They seemed to be from Earth, but probably lost their way and found themselves in this shelter.
