The pitiful young woman absentmindedly held Roan's outstretched hand.

"My name is Roan Argentos. What is your name, my lady." Roan flashed a smile that was hidden by his mask, but his silver eyes emitted a bright glow.

The coachman did not dally for long and he then urged the horses to run forward.

Roan glanced at the bruised young woman. He lightly caressed her injuries and he released a strange energy that invaded Elaine's body. But it did not make her feel pain, instead, it made her feel a sort of warmth that she wished to last forever.

"Elaine, what happened? And it looks to me that you are not from a humble origin. Your bearings and the way you bring yourself is of someone with a bit of status."

She enjoyed the feeling for a brief moment before she replied in a dispirited tone of voice.

"My father was a knight who wields a bit of power here in Beltran City and my mother was a mercenary.

My mother was among the most beautiful women in the city and many n.o.bles tried to woo her, but her heart remained true for one man, my father.

But now things are different, after my father's death. The n.o.bles stole everything he owned, and they even kidnapped my mother. As for me, I was sold in a slave market."

Elaine's eyes burned with hatred after recalling what had happened to her. She was shaking in fury, her fists were tightly clenched. When she suddenly felt a soft pat on her head. Her eyes regained clarity, and she saw a man wearing a white mask softly patting her head. She blushed in embarra.s.sment and turned to face the ground to hide her crimson red face.

"I'm sorry about what happened. Don't worry, after I am done with the things that I'm supposed to do inside the Alchemy Tower, I will help you find your mother."

"No! You cannot go against them alone." Tears formed in her eyes as she shook her head helplessly.

"Why is that so? I'm a Crusader level fighter, you know? Trust me." Roan lightly caressed her swollen cheeks.

Elaine felt a strange kind of sensation from Roan. It was like he can do whatever he says without trouble.

She nodded her head while allowing Roan to wipe the tears at the side of her face.

After thirty minutes, they arrived in the Alchemy Tower.

"Mister, can you please stay here for a moment and wait for me? I will leave Elaine in your care. I hope you can protect her in my absence."

Roan glanced at the mysterious coachman before giving him one silver coin.

"Elaine, stay here for now and never leave the carriage. Don't worry, mister coachman here will protect you."

Roan patted her head before he left.

The coachman could only shake his head in exasperation.

The Alchemy Tower was one of the strongest powers within the continent and every territory has at least one of their branches.

Within their ranks were high-level alchemists who can concoct wondrous pills with different kinds of effects.

To become an alchemist, one should at least be able to control mana and soul strength. And only mages were capable of doing that.
