With a slight tap on his ring, the scroll disappeared from the place and appeared inside his ring.
'I may need a large number of this teleportation spell scroll in the future.'
He checked the surroundings and saw the Hall now packed with dead bodies of both enemies and allies. His eyes moved toward the direction where Baron and his soldiers advanced to and finally noticed he stood alone in the Hall. His body battered and half of his dress torn apart.
A drowsiness feeling appeared, and he thought this battle might have drained him a little. Moreover, he thought of the demon that placed a curse upon his body. Everything about demons and devils was only known to the public after the arrival of chaos era.
Before that, they were only a myth to everyone. Abium remembered Azolla's warning to improve his spirit quickly. He now understood he knew nothing about the curse or mage related topics even after he lived a whole life.
In the past, all he read about mages were nothing but common knowledge. If he had to do like what Azolla told him, then it might take at least five to six months to improve his spirit up to the official mage level.
Abium sensed his body was weakening little by that curse. If he wanted to lift that curse, then he required at least 1000 or more gold coins to pay for any of the church. Only the bishop qualified enough to lift the curse placed by a demon. Also, he will be taken into custody by them and interrogated. A peasant family could feed their whole house for more than a month using a single gold coin. He shook his head at that option because he didn't hold one gold to buy a regular sword, nor he wants to place himself at any risk.
He tried to recall some of the memories that might aid him to cure the curse.
'I believe there was a gossip circulated the whole kingdom when I entered an adventurer's party two years after the arrival of chaos.'
'At that time, I am still a second-tier warrior and began to explore the whole kingdom. During that time, I overheard a rumor about a potion that restores many diseases.'
'Many peoples searched for that potion, but they weren't able to discover the location of that potion.'
'But I learned from a warrior that some guy obtained a clue about that potion. I think it's somewhere in a ruined temple near the royal capital.'
'I guessed it was a just a hoax at that time, but after a few months later, I learned the same guy got the Potion and auctioned it.'
Abium didn't know that potion will cure the curse or not, but a hint of hope emerged in his eyes.
He walked towards the armory room and lightly knocked on the door. A middle-aged soldier called Richard opened the door and invited him inside.
The room packed with a ma.s.sive amount of regular swords, s.h.i.+elds, and other weapons. But what caught Abium's attention was on his opposite side. He noticed broken walls and staircases. He could tell without even guessing it must be a path to the hidden room but now only left with debris.
Baron stood near the collapsed wall and watched the broken area. Once Abium entered the room, n.o.body made a sound. The other two soldiers stood near the armory door, waiting farther quietly. The silence of the armor room made his blood as cold as the brisk air that crept through an open window.
"What happened?"
Baron's quiet voice resounded inside the room, and Abium straightened himself and made a request.
"My lord, I want a recommendation letter from you to partic.i.p.ate in the upcoming auction."
Baron nodded at him, then walked outside that armory room and led right towards his office room. Abium noticed there held a desk and chair in the middle.
On both sides were packed with numerous scrolls and books. Stacks of books towering towards the tall ceiling, and even more covering every inch of the shabby, old shelves. By the looks of it, they'd all been sitting there for quite a while.
Baron picked up an empty scroll and started to draft a letter using Quill pen and ink. After he wrote those letters, He took a seal from the nearby draw and placed his n.o.ble seal on the scroll. He then tossed the scroll towards him.
Abium caught the scroll then bowed towards Baron with respect and examined the letter. Although letters wrote poorly, what he needed was the seal of any n.o.ble house. Only merchant guild members and n.o.ble household members were allowed to partic.i.p.ate in that auction. With the seal placed on that letter, no one would be able to stop him except royal family members from attending.
'Lastly, I got a n.o.ble household recommendation letter. Next, I need to discover a way to get a huge sum of money.'
Abium considered for a bit and threw the letter into his s.p.a.ce ring then bid farewell to Baron.
"I sincerely regret not giving any compensation for your aid, kid. But If you need any help in the future, feel free to come here."
"Thank you for your kindness, my lord."
After he thanked Baron, he left the fortress and proceeded towards the northern gate, where Helena was watching the other captured a.s.sa.s.sins.
Abium didn't use the main road, going through a small path instead. On the way, he noticed there were a lot of crimes happening, but most of them were robbery.
'Thieves guild members didn't know about anything that happened inside the fortress. I guess Baron will take some measures against them from now on.'
Within a few minutes, he appeared near the front gate. Helena shackled the leader a.s.sa.s.sin using chains in a nearby mast and questioning him by whipping him bit by bit.
When Abium saw her beating the a.s.sa.s.sin, he scared a little. In the past, she interrogated several criminals during their adventures, though he never imagined she experienced at this job even in the early days.
Once Helena saw Abium in the field of her visions; she wiped the blood on her palm, then approached him with a warm smile while holding her dagger in her right hand.
'What a scary woman!'
"How is the baron?"
"Good. But we need to travel quickly to the royal capital."
She stared at him with a questioning gaze. He pointed his finger towards his shoulder, where the wound was visible outside. He was too lazy to explain to her, so he shrugged his shoulder.
She peered at his injury, then walked towards the guard and told him a few words. Within a few minutes, the guard opened the gate, then both walked out of the town and advanced towards the royal capital direction.
'We need to reach Bare keep town before tomorrow nightfall; otherwise, we may encounter ambush attacks by bandits. I think exploring that mountain of perished near that town may help me a little.'
'I remembered someone would find some treasure in a few months'
He outlined the schedule and both advanced toward the Bare Keep town's direction. The trip was not so hard because there were no forest areas. Their only worry was about thieves, so they remain vigilant around their surroundings all the time.
On their itinerary were just fields and farming areas. A few farmhouses emerge from visions from time to time in the beginning, and they noticed some villages, but both didn't stop anywhere.
Within a few hours, the heat of the day has ebbed to a comforting warmth. The suns.h.i.+ne has lost its brightness, and the colors of the verandah softened.
'It already evening still it very unusual to haven't met any merchants.'
Abium thought it was strange not to meet anyone because it was an important trading route towards Dust gate town and Roseglen city.
"Stay alert during the watch! We may meet some guests."
Helena narrowed her eyes at Abium's warning then let out a sigh. She moved to start a campfire and lay near the area.
Meanwhile, Abium sat in a meditative position and entered into the empty void to improve his spirit a little. He felt suddenly sluggish and noticed a difference in his form.
He saw a black chain attached near to the heart of his spirit form but blocked by some golden threads. He could identify that it was Azolla preventing that black chain from invading his heart.
Then he saw some red arrow marks on the chain, which pointed to one way. He considered moving towards the arrow direction, but he knew it was a more rash decision.
'Something odd about this black chain. I need to be extra cautious if I have to move where that chain was pointing.'
Abium instead walked towards a different direction and noticed many clouds hovering over there. His spirit form stepped in that direction quickly. Within a few minutes, he arrived near that cloud.
When absorbing the cloud, he felt the same increase in his spirit. He thought it was an excellent opportunity, so he continued to repeat the process.
But a sudden slap on his cheek shook him up from the meditation state. On his opposite side, Helena hitting him repeatedly. He was confused by her unexpected behavior, so he asked her.
"What are you doing?"
"Oh? You finally awake! I repeatedly called your name, but you didn't respond. So I hit you a few times to wake you up."
Abium rolled his eyes at her, then suddenly thought of memory when she stabbed at that dwarf guy's a.s.s for resting for too long. Beads of sweat dripped from his forehead when he thought about that. Abium noticed a young boy laid near to him. He s.h.i.+fted his gaze towards Helena and asked.
"Who is he?"
"I roamed around the woods nearby to find anything edible. But instead, I saw him collapsed near the bush"
Abium rubbed his temples and inspected the boy. Age around ten or twelve, unusual scarlet eyes and hairs. A rune mark on the boy's neck caught his attention and gave him a little headache.
'd.a.m.n! A slave boy, how did he escape from the slave merchant?'
'Helping a fugitive slave may lead to a difficult situation. But I may use this to obtain anything linked to Helena's sister.'
Abium awoke that boy and settled him something to eat. The slave boy kept his mouth shut and cried all the time in the beginning, then after a few minutes, and he started talking.
"M-My name is Peter, 'sob' 'sob' some scary uncle killed my mom and dad."
Abium and Helena didn't follow his words at first. When requesting him to demonstrate to them in detail, he told to them slowly about what occurred to him and his family. His parents were peasants, and they lived outside the village.
Yesterday, Peter and his parents were having a meal in their house suddenly, few men entered and besieged them. Immediately boy's father and mother fought against them and captured by the slave merchants. When they put some marks on Peter's neck, suddenly village soldiers and other villagers arrived to rescue them.
His father used that opportunity to let him and his mother escape, and finally, he was killed by them. Even with his father's sacrifice, his mom didn't have any luck to escape from the slaver's sword.
Later he escaped from the slave merchants, he roamed around in these fields to survive, and lastly, Helena found him. After hearing his story, Abium s.h.i.+fted his gaze towards Helena and spoke.
"We need to verify if they are the people who kidnapped your sister."
Helena nodded at his suggestion, replied.
"This event happened yesterday. We don't know where the slave merchants were hiding. They may already escape from here."
Abium shook his head at her reply and sketched a map on the ground using his memories and imagined where they would be hiding.
'Most neighboring village from here will take 3 hours to travel by foot. There is a total of 7 settlements from Dust gate town to Bare keep town.'
'Slave merchants won't target the villages near the main road. So their only choice is the single village established farther from both towns and placed near a small mountain named Brifell hill.'
'I heard about a ruin located another side of that mountain. That may be the slave merchant's perfect hideout. Okay, let's gamble on that place.'
Abium noted the place and described his plan to Helena and turned his eyes to the slave boy.
'I don't know what to do with this kid. Leaving him here is not a safe option.'

He took a deep breath and spoke towards Peter.
"Kid, I want you to believe us. We will attack the slave merchant's hideouts, and if you desire to help us, then you must stay in that nearby village."
The boy nodded his head and slowly walked near Helena.
then, three of them proceeded towards the village near the Brifell hill.
