'Did those goblins monitored us from the very beginning?' A thought appeared.
In the past, he didn't sense anything out of the ordinary due to his lack of any skills. But now he perceived many eyes watching them from time to time. Goblins!
Monsters with bright green skin, pointy ears, dull-witted, war-mongering, but were so skilled at ambus.h.i.+ng and night raids. Their intellect might be less than humans, but they were always small and grotesque, mischievous, or outright malicious.
Sometimes there appears hybrid among the goblins called Hobgoblin; its strength might rival against tier 3 warrior. Hobgoblins- a larger, stronger, smarter, and more menacing form of goblins. (Author's note: Hobgoblins also low intelligent monsters, they don't use tactics or skills during the fight.)
Their height differs from 1 meter to 1.5 meters; moreover, their skin was more robust than some stones, so they were difficult to kill using normally.
Once camping began, everyone rushed to do their work. Servants making foods while soldiers began building tents and lighting campfire. The heat from the campfire seemed sucked into the frigid air before ever reaching their hands.
They added more wood and poked it with long sticks. It seemed to die a little as if unsure of itself, unready to devour the new offerings. It licked at the new logs like a nervous kitten and sent feeble sparks to die in the air.
But after a time, it found it's confidence and grew until the heat warmed them, orange flames celebrated with their wild flickering dance. It would have to last through the night. Someone would have to stay up and nurse it through the darkest hours, guard it, feed it.
Abium watched that fire and placed his sword in his waist just in case anything happens out of the ordinary. In the past, due to some luck, he managed to escape from these goblins. But this time, he might not be lucky like before.
With Abium's current strength, he could fight against three elite goblins at the same time and quickly kill them without an issue.
But if he were up against any Hobgoblin, then he would be in an awkward position because of its tough skin and large body.
Also, Hobgoblin would outmatch him in agility and strength, even though he had rich experience in fighting and his swordsmans.h.i.+p. His chance of winning against Hobgoblin was meager.
Due to the potion, Abium's spirit enchanted a little, and he could keep his mind calm and study the opponent at the same time. Abium had two advantages against that monster if the fight happens. That was his mastery over the sword and intermediate sword aura.
A few hours later, Abium noticed everything went quiet, and most of the soldiers went to sleep except for some guard duty members. He looked up at the midnight star and thought it might be around 11 o clock.
There was absolute stillness, and no air stirred the gra.s.s or leaves. No clouds drifted in the sea of blue above.
No water dripped or flowed. Not a sound could be heard either close at hand or in the far off distance.
Even his breath seemed to die as soon as it left his mouth.

It was a weird sort of tranquility, so instead of being soothed, his senses became heightened.
He felt like the prey, even though no predator could be detected. It was as if the world encased in a coc.o.o.n, a bubble, and there was no way out.
Abium soon walked towards his tent and took some dry pieces of bread for a few days, including some water inside a bag. Then he clutched his iron sword and got ready for any sudden attacks from the goblins.
If he informed about the goblins raid to other soldiers or Johnathan, they would only ridicule him, so he chose to keep his mouth shut.
While he was in deep thinking, a shrieking noise heard, immediately Abium got up and prepared for any attack.
Soon, screams and panic cries of servants and soldiers reverberated everywhere, and some experienced soldiers slowly started to confront the goblins. Meanwhile, Abium defended himself and waited for Johnathan's further orders.
If Abium could order these soldiers to support him during the fighting, then he might have a chance of winning against goblins. But he would do that only after Johnathon's departure.
He must risk his life during the fight against that Hobgoblin, and if somehow he got injured, that Hobgoblin would butcher him. Still, it would be worth protecting these poor souls than saving some fat pigs.
Abium observed there was a total of 100 goblins started to surround them, and Hobgoblin watched soldiers panicking scream with a wicked grin on its face.
On the other side, Johnathan appeared little alarmed by the ma.s.sive numbers of goblins. When he saw the leader was a hobgoblin, his first thought was to escape. If Johnathan fights against these goblins, there might be able to win. But he would put the young master's life in danger.
Soon he cleared his throat and issued some cruel orders.
"Soldiers! Don't panic! Stop the goblins from advancing towards our young master's carriage! Those who thought of escaping from here will have gruesome death by my hands. Humph."
"Household members, Follow me! We will check on our young master to see if he is okay. Servants! you also a.s.sist them."
Once he issued that order Johnathan and the elite household warriors disappeared towards where the carriage stood.
Abium watched Johnathan issuing orders without any difficulty and gritted his teeth in disgust. There was a rage of fire rose in his eyes but soon disappeared into the hollow black eyes.
In the past, Abium hated Johnathan for abandoning them. But now Abium noticed there was no sympathy in Johnathan's eyes when he gave those orders. Instead, his eyes stared at others like some pile of trash. He finally understood Johnathan didn't even consider them as humans.
Abium soon saw those soldiers were overwhelmed by goblins. When someone noticed there were no soldiers near the carriage nor the household members, panic appeared on everyone's face.
If Abium didn't do anything now, then the same thing would happen like in the past.
Abium let out a sigh and decided to win this battle using these remaining soldiers' strength.
He grabbed his sword hilt and spurred towards the area where soldiers were in a pinch situation.
Basic sword aura emerged around his sword, and he slashed his sword towards nearby two goblins' neck. The sword made a sharp sound as it fell on the neck of both goblins. Two heads rolled on the ground, and scarlet blood splattered all over his face and further covered his iron sword.
He quickly bounced towards a goblin that looked much stronger than other small goblins and thrust his sword precisely at the elite goblin's heart. It was an elite goblin! When that elite goblin noticed a sword coming towards it's heard. It panicked and tried its best to avoid being pierced by his sword, but Abium's mastery in sword skill overwhelmed the goblin's last futile attempt. His sword pierced that goblin's heart and appeared on the other side.
"Urk! UGAAAH"
Elite goblin screamed at the top of its lungs! Abium figured that elite goblin's overall strength might rival to second-tier warriors. He then pulled out his sword and once again moved. He noticed another elite goblin ran towards him, who held a club in its hand. Abium also spurs towards the enemy to attack, which startled that goblin. An opening appeared. Without hesitation, his sword aura cuts the club into two; then, his sword slashed towards that goblin's throat. Due to his mastery in sword techniques, his sword sliced at that goblin's neck.
Soon there were only seven elite goblins were remaining on the battlefield. So Abium stealthily moved towards another elite goblin and killed it swiftly like a panther.
Abium repeatedly had done this a few times and killed a total of five elites and nearly fifteen normal goblins in a few minutes. Even though he reduced their numbers; there was no happiness in his heart.
Because he knew the real enemy was not these goblins whose normal strength was under tier 1 Warriors but that Hobgoblin.
Goblins only use their numbers to fight. And there was always a leader who commanded these goblins.
During the ma.s.sive raids, sometimes there might appear goblin shaman and goblin king. Their strength of those monsters, sometimes might rival intermediate tier monsters.
Within a minute, Hobgoblin noticed Abium's plan. In the beginning, it didn't react, but after he murdered so many of its kins, it grew alert and chose to confront him.
Abium glanced the surroundings, and he signed in relief because there were only half of the goblins were remaining.
Although it would be a fierce battle for soldiers, they would be fine if they used some of the war tactics they learned in the military to fight.
With his current mana, Abium could only able to maintain intermediate level sword aura for a few seconds. So he decided to use it only for surprise attacks.
Hobgoblin continued to glare at Abium with its hateful eyes. Then it bellowed and sped towards him while holding a large club on its hand.
Abium had a long, thin, slightly curved sword made of steel that was held by a grip wrapped in dull, ivory leather, dual-edged, and razor-sharp. Although his sword might seem old, it was a good sword gifted by Alfred for his birthday.
He applied only basic skills to continuously slice and hit on the vital area of the Hobgoblin. Still, because of the toughness of its skin, his sword wasn't able to pierce through by merely applying basic sword aura. And it only gave a shallow cut to the opponent.
At the same time, Abium was barely holding up against the Hobgoblin's speed. He only used his sword to defend from goblin's attack and evaded being hit by that large club.
In a few moments, he panted and felt exhausted a little. The Hobgoblin believed that he was out of breath and further pushed him harder with its club.
Abium suddenly backed away from the Hobgoblin and noticed the changes around him.
The forest littered with suits, carnage, and bodies. Red, black, and khaki are the new colors of what was once a quiet, lush forest, which has now become the stage of blood and corpses.
With both confidence and panic, the soldier's side desperately fights their enemies without knowing which party was stronger.
Some have succ.u.mbed due to fatigue and were no longer able to defend themselves and too tired to care.
Their only hope was the main fighting between Abium and Hobgoblin.
