Chapter 52 Baron

Inside the northern tower, suddenly, the large magic circle flickered. Following that slowly, Abium's figure materialized. After he glanced around his surroundings for a second and noticed he reappeared in the same place.

He walked out of that tower and soon saw a carriage stood a few yards away from him. It was a luxurious, mainly used by n.o.bles and mages who come back to the capital. He moved near to that carriage.

"Get me to n.o.ble district."

"Yes, Sir!" Quickly that carriage driver opened the curtain and invited him to enter inside. If Abium goes by walk, it will take at least one hour to reach there. Also, he would stand out too much because of his black robe and the batch.

Soon, that carriage leisurely headed to the south of the capital. Dewsummit, the capital of the Peral Kingdom. People were busy getting ready for the upcoming Royal Banquet. Abium looked out through the slightly lifted curtain and started to think.

'Helena and Camilla should move out to their hometown after that Royal banquet.' He knew that count Tibal would come after them if they get out of the capital.

Although with his current strength, he doesn't have to worry about them, still he thought sending them to their hometown would be the correct decision.

'Hmm, if they object to go back, I have only one option left. I will bring both Helena and Camilla to my own territory.' He had already thought of many plans for their safety.

He just stared blankly at the outside, before shutting the curtains once again. The happy citizens were decorating the streets, and the streets were becoming very beautiful. All these would turn into a mess after the Royal Banquet.

"Sir Mage."

They were now at the southern part of the Dewsummit, at the location of the n.o.ble residences. The carriage stopped in front of a small mansion, and Abium stood up and got ready to exit.

'Click'

The carriage door opened.

Abium instantly turned towards the driver's seat once he got off the carriage.

"Take this" He quickly took out a gold coin from his pocket and threw it towards the driver then walked forward. Soon, two guards who were on the watch noticed his arrival.

Screech. Bang!

The large gate slowly opened.

The guards greeted him respectfully, and soon, one guy ran ahead to inform others.

"Sigh"

He quickly followed that guard and soon walked near to the hall.

"Abi! Why did you come so soon?" A familiar voice appeared from inside the hall as he noticed a young blonde-haired girl wore a s.h.i.+rt, and a long, narrow, wrapped skirt watched him with a questioning gaze. Near to her, a small figure flapping four of her transparent wings and stared at him with puzzlement.

"Sister! Who is he? Why are you talking to him?"

"Did you forgot already? You just met him a week before, right?"

'Yup, She definitely forgot about me.' Although Helena seems didn't notice his outer appearance.

"Is that so? Hm? Y-Yeah, I remembered now!"

Camilla stuttered and averted her eyes when noticing Abium's glare.

"Ah! I will go and tell Grandpa!"

'Grandpa?!'

'When did baron became your grandfather?'

Abium quickly shook his head and spoke.

"I came here to attend the Royal banquet. Anyway, did that count give you and others any trouble?" It was his doubt from the beginning because he knew that the old b.a.s.t.a.r.d would definitely won't give up.

"Yeah! Every day, we have to deal with many thieves who try to enter this mansion. If not for Lord Baron's help, they might already capture her."

"Do you plan to stay here or return to your hometown. I can be so sure that staying here will only make things worse."

Helena went silent for a long time and responded.

"Actually, the same problem as this happened in our village. Because of that, Camilla ran away from there with the help of her friend and caught by slave traders. I don't even know where to go with my sister." She said with a sorrowful tone. Abium noticed this let out another sigh, and made up his mind.

"Hmm. After that Royal Banquet, I will tell you where we will stay." He said and s.h.i.+fted his gaze as he noticed footsteps came from the dining hall.

"Lad, Oh? It seems you already became an official mage. And you look more like an elf!" Baron said.

"Yes, Lord Baron. I also don't know how it happened, but once I advanced to an official mage, I became like this."

"Hmm, very mysterious, indeed. I never heard of a half-elf changed into an elf. Anyways, are you also coming to the Royal Banquet tomorrow?"

Abium nodded and soon asked about the things that happened during the past few days. After he discussed with baron for a few minutes, he somewhat understood what was happening inside the kingdom. Margrave Eliot and Duke Pawelinus officially stated that they allied with Holy See, which made the light church be in bitter position.

Because of this, every citizen of the kingdom feeling restless in their hearts. Abium also felt something amiss when he heard that King Sewallus's condition was improving.

'What did I miss? Is the king's death related to the Royal Banquet?' He puzzled. Soon, he dismissed those thoughts and went to go on shopping.

"Kid, if you are going shopping, bring Helena and her sister with you. Helena will help you what dress to choose for the banquet." Baron said with a smile but not the warm one. That smile gave him little gooseb.u.mps.

"Really?" He narrowed his eyes.

"Y-Yes, kid, I went to her yesterday to buy some clothes for us." He nodded while averting his gaze.

In the past, Abium never went shopping with her. Every time, only Kuran would accompany her and end up carrying all her clothes like a baggage carrier.

"So, where is Kuran?" He didn't see him anywhere, even in the scan.

"That b.a.s.t.a.r.d went along with Richard to buy alcohol. They will return only at midnight once everyone went to sleep." Helena's angry mutter came from behind.

He nodded with a sigh, and soon, all three of them informed Baron and went out.

Somewhere In the slums at the same time, two figures knelt in front of a throne waited for orders. Both of them covered their whole head with a black hood and gave off a dangerous aura.

"Sara, Lily, Master Grold sent a message to me." A guy sat on a black metallic throne spoke in a hoa.r.s.e tone. Half of his face almost covered in black colored corrosion, and his left eye was nowhere to seem.

He snapped his finger, soon the same b.u.t.terfly that posses weird letters on it's back appeared in front of him. It then flew towards those two figures, and soon those letters separated from its wings.

The next moment, those letters flickered a little then formed into a projection. Soon, an image of an elf appeared that made those two figures to puzzle.

"Master asked us to be wary of him, and if you got any opportunity, then test his battle skills."

"Okay."

"Now, you can go back to your duty. I will tell you the details about your next mission." That guy gave a pity look at them, and waved his hand. But the figure on the right side stood without moving an inch then asked.

"Will we be set free after this mission?"

"That will depend on how you complete your mission, Lily." Both glared at each other for a second before that girl continued.

"Don't think you could escape from this Iskax. Once my dad comes back from the mission, he will never let you live for making us as slaves."

"I will deal with your father when the time comes. Now go and complete your work."

Soon, that girl bit her lips and dragged her sister away from that room with teary eyes.

Meanwhile, Abium, Helena, and Camilla walked out of the n.o.ble residence and moved towards the northern area.

First, they moved to the market street and soon found the clothing store he had been antic.i.p.ated to visit. He couldn't be able to remember the name of that shop.

But he heard most n.o.bles or rich peoples would come here occasionally for purchasing clothes. He quickly entered the store as a middle-aged lady welcomed him with a warm smile.

"Greeting! Sir mage and lady-" she stopped when her eyes widened a little as she saw Camilla. Soon, she let out a fake cough and continued.

"What do you like to purchase, Sir? We have some high-quality robes weaved with sea silk, n.o.ble clothes made from the fur of crystal snow wolf…" Soon Abium stopped her and said.

"I need a few fine clothes for three of us to attend the Banquet."

She nodded her head and asked him to follow her. Abium already though hiding Camilla would not be the best option anymore. All the n.o.ble houses were already aware of her existence inside Baron's mansion.

So he thought, why not let both Helena and Camilla to the Royal banquet? He also has that invitation badge prince Huggin gave him. Who would come after him if they found out the Crown prince personally invited him?

He dispersed those thoughts and inspected the shop. Inside the store, all types of clothes were lined inside based on gender. Soon, both sisters went on their own to buy their clothes while he moved towards man's section.

Some were ready-made while other cloths need tailoring. Abium moved to ready-made section and saw, jackets with the hose, coats, tunics, etc. All these dresses embedded with ornaments and some jewels.

After some quick check, he picked up three cloths with looks attractive to his eyes and went to the counter and waited. It took nearly a few hours for them to came out from the woman's section.

He waved at them with a smile but soon froze. His jaw dropped. Helena was carrying a large bundle of beautiful clothes on her back like baggage. Following her shop lady also carrying another two bundles with a wide grin on her face.

'f.u.c.k! Did she brought the whole section?!'

"Abi! Don't you want more clothes? Why are you holding only three cloths?" He almost coughed up some blood.

"It's okay! Ma'am, could you please tell me the total amount?" That lady gave him some pity look and began to calculate the amount. It took her almost five minutes to check everything.

"It's less than I had expected, Sir mage. It's 168 white gold coins and four golds."

Abium nodded with a blank expression on his face and gave her the amount. Once he put everything inside his spatial ring, he dragged both of them out of that shop.

He quickly thought of returning but noticed both of them already walking towards the other shop. A chill went up to his spines. Within hesitation, he chased after them and soon dragged them back to the mansion.

"HAHAHA! Lad, how did you feel?" Abium almost fell when he noticed Baron, who always showed a severe face now laughed at him at the entrance.

"Lord Baron! You should have told me earlier, right?"

"Kid, How much did they spend?"

"168 white golds."

"Good, it's less that I thought earlier. But yesterday, these two devils emptied half of my treasure house." Baron spoke with a pained expression.

"Okay, lad, go and take some rest. You have to go to the royal castle tomorrow morning for the t.i.tle ceremony."

Abium nodded and quickly left after some talk to rest.

In the northern district, at the top of one Inn's terrace, the same two figures wore a black hood and seemed to be waiting for someone.

In front of them, there placed a small magic rune circle that gave off a mysterious feeling.

"Sister, why is he taking so much time?" The girl on the right side removed her hood and spoke in an annoyance. The moonlight reflected on her black hair and glittered a little.

"Cover your head, Sara. What if somebody sees us?"

"Okay! Okay. Sister." Sara shakes her head with a smile, and soon, both noticed the magic rune circle flickered. The next moment, a figure materialized on that circle and walked out. He wore a black robe like Abium, but the difference was, he wore an extra red badge.

"Oh! So they are planning to send you guys for tomorrow's mission, huh!" He walked towards them and sized up and down then continued.

"I already did my work on the other side, all you have to go is just go there and finish your job. Once the job is done crush this...o...b.. then you will return here. Got it?"

Both nodded with some nervousness, and Lily stepped forward and caught that orb.

"So, who is going to do this job?"

"I will." Sara quickly stepped forward before her elder sister and said excitedly.

"Good then. Meet me here tomorrow at 6 pm." He said with a severe tone and disappeared from there, leaving two young sisters alone at the terrace.

The next day morning, Abium went alone towards the castle to officially get his n.o.ble t.i.tle. Inside the throne room, not a pin drop sound heard as everyone seated on their seats.

Most of the administrative officers and many influential n.o.bles attended that meeting. Soon, a thick iron gate opened, and soon, a fifty-year-old man with blonde hair walked towards the throne. Everyone quickly rose up from their seats and bowed. King didn't make any introductions and directly went to the main subject.

" 'Cough' Now, I would like to finish this ceremony sooner. Everyone has to prepare for the upcoming banquet, right?" King Seawallus spoke in a weary tone, soon a servant brought out a small scroll and gave it to the king.

"Hm?" He quickly made a quick scan and kept it near to him.

"Ahem. Mage Abium comes forth."

King Sewallus took out a badge that had a symbol of a firebird and called out his name.

Abium stood up from his seat and walked towards the front. He went near towards the throne and kneeling upon the steps.

"In the name of First king Theodric, are you willing to protect the citizens and serve this kingdom?" Suddenly a domineering aura appeared around the king made Abium stutter a little.

"Y-Yes, your majesty!"

"Good! Now I grant you officially as a baron of this kingdom. Chose your house name."

King said.

'Household name, huh?'

Abium already picked a name in his mind, which Azolla told him earlier. He took a deep breath and spoke.

"Your majesty, I chose Lufiel as my household name."

This time King gave a surprised look at Abium while others showed a puzzlement.

"Hahaha, Kid, tell me where did you hear that name?"

Abium startled a little and nervously replied.

"I heard it from my teacher. Your majesty. If that name is not your liking, I will choose another one."

"Don't! You see, that was once an elven royal family's name. But after the last princess's death, that name itself became a myth."

"If it is your wish, then so be it. From now on, your household name will be Lufiel."

Abium wiped his sweats on his forehead and thanked the king.

"Now, rise and protect this kingdom from the enemies from now on, kid. Next is about your territory. Brother Zivior told me in the letter that you chose Alastall woodland. So, are you sure about that territory? Because even I felt it was not the right place for living."

All the n.o.bles started to make noise when hearing that territory name. Basically, it was a forest that totally separated from the whole kingdom. To chose that territory made them think of Abium as a foolish kid.

"Your majesty, I already made up my mind."

"Stubborn child, huh! Okay, from now on, that territory will be under your control. Also, I will exempt the first two years of tax. Prove me in those two years that you can change that territory like other lands, I may even promote your t.i.tle to a viscount." A few gasps sound heard from Abium's behind.

"Thank you, your majesty. I will make that territory prosperous."

Abium quickly arose and gave another bow, then went back to his seat. At the same time, some of the n.o.bles' expressions went frown. It was the first time King showed favorable expression to anyone. What made their frown deeper was the origin of this unknown mage.

They haven't heard this mage name at all that made them dissatisfied. But they bit their lips and didn't talk out loud. Abium also knew their dissatisfaction, but he didn't care about their feelings.

In the upcoming chaos, these n.o.bles were the ones first to betray the citizens and stab their own allies in the back. He quickly went back to his seats, followed by another n.o.ble walked forth, and gave a file towards the king.

Soon, many n.o.bles came forth towards the king and reported about their problems inside their territory to the king. Some complained about a sudden increase in monsters near the forest areas, and others were about slave traders.

"Huh! I will give this slave traders issue to d.u.c.h.ess Margery, and for that sudden increase in monsters, recruit many normal soldiers, and train them."

"Yes, Your majesty."

Everyone shouted in unison then after some time the ceremony ended. He quickly followed others and walked out of the palace.

Abium took a carriage and thought of returning to the mansion and prepare for the evening banquet. But on the way back to the mansion, suddenly the carriage stopped,

At the same time, his hair stood on the end. Without any moment of hesitation, Abium cast 'blink' spell two times and teleported away and reappeared few meters away from the carriage.

'Whoosh' 'Whoosh'

Three iron bolts flew from the crossbows and pierced the carriage.

"Ahhhhhh," A loud painful moaning sound could be heard from the front. Abium saw one iron bolt pierced the body of that carriage driver.

He glanced at the surroundings to see where those bolts came from and noticed no one was there. In his scan, there was no enemy appeared made him doubt if that scan function was working or not.

'Who?' His eyes darted but found nothing.

"Did you get him?" Lily stood a few hundred meters away from the carriage and asked.

"No! He somehow sensed our attack beforehand and escaped. Let's go." Sara spoke while covering her head with the black hood and withdrew from there. Abium stood there on the street and puzzled. He searched for a few minutes and returned to the mansion.

He informed about the incident to the Baron Auguinare and fell into deep thought. The enemy didn't appear on his scan made him realize they must be attacked him from far away, or they somehow able to fool his scan function.

'It must be one of those n.o.bles. No one would attack a mage in the daylight except them.'

He did feel sorry for that carriage driver, but he knew that the driver didn't die because of his action. He went to the butler and gave some money for that driver's family.

Then he went to his room and quickly wrote a letter to Claude. He planned to move towards his territory after the banquet. In that letter, he told them to get their family and move towards Baron Harry's territory.

'I think Viscount and Watson already in capital to attend the banquet. It is the perfect time for them to rescue their family.'
