Still I wonder if it was best to put his life and hers on the line just so they could be together but then again he was a great actor. For a moment I believed it, the way he trailed his fingers upward, stopping when his hand cupped my cheek as our eyes met. It felt so much like love even if it wasn't real.

It made me wonder if this was the nearest I was ever going to get as a mate. Pretending to be a step for someone else so their important person can stay safe and one day they can be together.

The look in his eyes made me want to help him. His were possessive and uns.h.i.+elded despite the hash situations of their meeting. I really could not stop blus.h.i.+ng such a man would be a forceful love demanding partner in bed.

"Do you mind if I take a set of mirrors?" I asked, remembering Velberg's description of them.

Knight laughed. It was a husky masculine sound that had more than one woman in the room turning toward him. l.u.s.t pulled the flesh taut across his high cheekbones and his dark eyes had burned to a savage icy blue.

"It is a rather useful piece isn't it, Gene?" he teased.

I grinned and tilted my head to an angle so I could look at him through my lashes. He did attract a lot of attention with his looks or it could be. In a display he slowly brought my hand to his lips and pressed a kiss to it.

"This really is unexpected." I said backing away uncomfortably so.

"I asked would ask if I was stupid. I rather we take a long stroll and see if any other catch your fancy." A little smile played at the corners of his mouth.

"I appreciate it, thanks."

He glanced at me drew my gaze to his eyes. I felt a burning. I wanted purr as Knight's hand slide over me protectively.

"Admit that you love me." He leaned in and whispered, "say it, please. Everyone needs to know it to make it real. I need so hear it."

I move my head in a nod. It was all I was able to give. I was afraid saying it would make it real and something borrowed could only be mine for so long. Real emotion coursed through knowing that it was an illusion but still longing for it to be real. I'd never had a man desire me intensely or show me any interest.
