I carefully stood up out from under my blanket and pulled my robe down. "I'll be right back, don't go anywhere." I laughed as I started for the stairs.

"I wouldn't dream of it!" Adam called back as I climbed the stairs.

I rushed to the closet and found my favorite sweater which was a bright fuchsia pink sweater with a draping neckline. I grabbed a pair of tight black slacks and my black winter boots with gray fur at the top. I walked, more like ran, to the bathroom and realized that my hair had nearly dried and actually looked like a wild curl that fell around my face perfectly. I threw my clothes on and put a little makeup on until I was satisfied with myself. I walked down the stairs as calmly as I could and saw Adam sashay toward the bottom of the stairs; a smile broke across his face.

"Beautiful," he said. A flush washed my face. "Are you ready for a memorable day?"

"As long as you're with me," I smiled and stopped in front of him. I looked up into his eyes and for the first time, I felt only joy when I looked into those blue eyes. I knew I would finally find the answers that I wanted to find and I would finally understand what was going on. And this man had the answers I sought after.

We turned toward the door and he grabbed my coat from the hook next to the door as I slid my arms into it. He reached out and opened the door and led me out toward his car. I reached out making sure that it was locked and my key was in my pocket. I turned back toward him and the snow was beginning to fall. He looked like a dark angel standing in the fresh cotton falling from the sky. The sun was low in the western sky and shown behind him accenting the tips of his black hair. The air was chilly and I could feel the evening air moving in as the snow fell. We walked to his car without incident this time and I waited in the car as he walked around the front and stepped in.

We didn't say much of anything but small talk as we drove to the restaurant. Once seated at our table at Country Boys Steakhouse we finally started talking. The hostess had led us to a table secluded in the corner and left our menus for us to look at.

"Abby? What are you thinking?" he asked.

"I was just thinking," I began as I looked into his eyes. "How to explain even to myself how I feel about..." I paused mustering the courage to continue. With a sigh I finish, "You."

"Ah, what exactly confuses you about your feelings about me?" Adam asked with a look of confusion on his face.

"Well, how is it that the moment that I met you, which by the way was only a month ago, I felt an immediate connection to you?" I looked at him inquisitively, waiting for an answer.

"Are you ready to order?" our waitress said, interrupting me before he could say anything.

"Are you ready?" He asked me.

"Um, yeah," I looked down at the menu in front of me and named off the first think that my eyes settled on.

"Okay, and you, Honey?" she turned and asked Adam.

He glanced at the menu and named off what he wanted. She wrote it down and took our menus before disappearing again.

I sat wondering what to say, he was looking at me and I felt his energy surround me. "Adam?" I asked.

"Yes."

"Does Dru exist?" I looked at him and waited for his reply. I had to know.

Adam leaned across the table and took my hands. The sun cast light delicate rays that haloed around his features. A smile inched across his face as he gazed into my eyes. "You tell me. What do you believe to be true?"

I thought about it for a moment. I did believe that Dru existed at some point. She would prove that I wasn't crazy about Josh's death. The blond woman who killed him had black eyes and drank his blood. Isn't that what a vampire does, drink blood from their victims. Dru was a vampire hunter which would prove that vampires exist. But that was too crazy to believe. "I don't know. If Dru existed then that means that vampires exist, too. But do vampires really exist?"

Adam lifted his hand and placed a finger across my lips to silence me. I looked at his clear blue eyes and could see that he was contemplating his answer. He didn't say anything though and even as we ate he never said a word. We finished and the waitress brought our check, Adam took it and gave her a credit card. He smiled at me but still, no answer.

He looked at me and extended his hand to me. "No, not until I get an answer," I demanded.

He bent over to look into my eyes as he whispered, "Not here."

I reached out, narrowing my eyes at him and took his hand. But before I stood, I looked back into his face whispered, "Promise?"

"Promise," he whispered with a smile. I lifted myself up not taking my eyes away from his. He pulled me in front of him and wrapped his arms around my waist. He kissed my forehead and I could feel his warm breath on my hair. His lips on my forehead were warm and comforting. I could feel the warmth of his body against mine and his arms were strong and protective.

He pulled back and I looked at him. I smiled and turned toward the door and he followed, smiling.

A smile crossed my face and Adam smiled back. "Let's go."

"Yes, Ma'am." We walked to his car and as we reached his car and I got in, something occurred to me. If Adam knew about the existenceof vampirethen maybe he could confirm or deny my thoughts of Josh's killer. When Adam sat in the car I said, "Adam, it was a vampire that killed Jos.h.!.+"

"What?" he looked at me in shock. "How do you know that?"

"Well," I started as I remembered the morning Josh died. "Well, I saw it in a dream, the morning he died."

"What did the vampire look like?" he asked.

"Take me home and I'll explain on the way."

Adam started the car in response and put it in gear. As soon as we were out of the parking lot I explained my dream to him. I described the woman and her unusual talent. She caused pain with the single word. He found this part particularly interesting.

"Pain, huh? Sounds familiar but I don't know. You don't remember her?"

"No, how could I? Adam, is any of this real? Does Dru exist? Do vampires? What is going on? Because all I know is that I…" my voice trailed off as Adam pulled in front of a house that I recognized. It was a mansion, with huge pillars on the large porch. It was my house, it was Dru's.
