The kid comes to see me again.

His usual happy energy is nowhere to be seen.

Instead he looks tired and drained.

I honestly don't know what to do.

I've never had to comfort a sobbing child before.

It isn't long but feels like an eternity before his shuddering sobs subside and he finally pulls away.

The kid doesn't deserve to feel that kind of guilt and anguish.

The knowledge that people are counting on you and yet no matter how hard you try and how much you want to help, you're powerless to do anything.

Riel lets out a heavy breath and gets up.

"Look, I know you probably don't care about any of this, but thank you for listening."

I give him a jerky nod.

I don't know how long I sit there after he leaves.
