With a spring in his step, the youth traveled along the well-trodden dirt roads. He had recently left the Flowing River Sect's vicinity and had entered into more rural territory. With his cultivation restricted to Dantian Formation (by choice), he could not fly to speed up his travels, forced to endure the strenuous journey on his two legs. As he was traveling on one of the main roads, he would be often met with trading caravans as well as the rare lone wanderer here and there.

Before long, the sun had fallen beneath the horizon and the darkness had started to engulf the still and quiet world. The youth still had a ways until he made it to the nearest city, so he decided to set up camp. For his first order of business, he would have to obtain wood. Standing in front of a ma.s.sive tree, he took a deep breath, circulated his Qi, took a deep forward stance, and punched. With a few more hits, he had felled the towering tree in front of him. Pulling out his sabre, he neatly chopped the wood into appropriately sized pieces. Using this wood, he set up the fire. As the flames burned brightly in the campfire, he pulled out some fruits that sparkled from the Qi imbued in them from his sack. He laid them down on a white table cloth and sat next to the fire. Readying himself for a session of cultivation, he sat down crossing his legs and closing his eyes.

Directing his gaze to his Dantian, he observed his Qi as it circulated. In the eyes of an amateur, it would be declared that he was crippled as his flow of Qi was rather irregular, erratic. The Qi flow would at times seem to stop and then start again at random intervals. But to an expert, it would be extremely astonis.h.i.+ng. Even in the entire Middle Continent—not to mention the mere Golden Gan Country— cultivation experts had never heard of such an unusual cultivation method. For if one looked closely and observed for a long enough time, they would be able to notice that the Qi flow was controlled, stopping and starting at controlled intervals.

This was the true marvel of the Dragon Breaks the Void cultivation manual. Through meticulous control of the Qi flow by the user, one would be able to obtain the ability to burst with power for the time it takes to brew a cup of tea. To eventually have the power to break through the fabric of s.p.a.ce into the void, the Dragon Breaks the Void cultivation manual prepared its pract.i.tioner by conditioning the body to get used to bursts of power. As such, the cultivation method was extremely harsh on the body, eventually losing the attention of cultivators despite being a ridiculously powerful ancient cultivation technique.

After cultivating for 3 hours, the fire had started to die out. Covered in sweat and black grime, Van grabbed a log from a small pile and placed it into the fire to keep it going. Before beginning his slumber, Van had a quick dip into the nearby stream, scrubbing his skin until it turned a scarlet red. Startled awake by Van's commotion from his bathing, Sanji scurried out of Van's sack. His golden fur glinted in the moonlight as he carefully crawled to the edge of the stream, a mischievous look in his eye.

A neatly folded stack of clothes, as well as a pile of grimy rags, sat in the gra.s.s, just out of the reach of the stream's current. Having found his target, Sanji grabbed the clothing, as fast and quietly as he could, and ran off back to camp before dropping it in the dying fire. As the flames met the dry clothing, they immediately flared up before being suppressed by the dampness from the grimy sweaty rags.

Having scrubbed himself thoroughly, Van waded through the stream to the gra.s.s where he had left his change of clothing. As he approached it, he noticed no sign of any clothing except for the indent that it had left in the gra.s.s. Astonished by this occurrence, he immediately sent out his Qi sense sweeping the area in a 1km radius. Having detected no sign to hint of the fate of his clothing, Van decided to head back to camp fully exposed.

"If only I was at the King Stage, then I would be able to create a robe out of thin air from the forces of nature."

Van grumbled, rather annoyed and confident in the ident.i.ty of the culprit. He sighed and continued his trek back to the camp through the thick forest. Besides a few rays of moonlight, the tree canopy blocked out any form of light. In the darkness with only the sound of crickets chirping, Van slowly trekked through the mossy forest floor, in only a pair of plain cloth shoes. Before long, he made it back to the campsite; where he was met with a smoldering campfire. The only thing left was the remains of his dirty rags covered in the ashes of burnt freshly laundered clothing.

Without speaking a single word, Van slowly advanced towards the campfire before stretching out his hand in front of himself. Releasing a breath as well as some built-up Qi, he turned the remains of his clothing into a fine dust. Despite his constant practice in perfecting his control of Qi, many beads of sweat started forming on his forehead after his overexertion of Qi control. He immediately sat down, his legs crossed, and started absorbing the world energy converting it into Qi in his Dantian, refilling up the small pond that had been emptied just moments before.

Opening the flap of his tent, he found Sanji curled up under a warm pile of cotton tunics. A look of pure innocence adorned the mouse's face during its slumber. Van's eyebrows started twitching as he witnessed his deceitful contracted beast peacefully slumbering. Reaching his two hands out, full of malintent, he quickly grabbed Sanji's flabby neck. Two beady eyes flashed opened staring straight into Van's purple irises. A look of surprise had replaced the façade of innocence.

Quickly adapting to the situation, Sanji put on his best puppy eyes trying to guilt Van into letting him off. Instead, this caused Van to clench his hands with even more force making Sanji's face puff out into exaggerated proportions. Although his intention was to choke the life out of the tiny mouse (Sanji had himself shrunk down into a more reasonable size for a mouse to avoid attention), Sanji was still a high ranking Fierce Beast so despite the stretching of his face and seemingly dangerous situation, he was not in any fatal danger.

A garbled squeak came from the bloated face that lay in between the grip of Van's hands. Van's face scrunched in concentration, he continued this grip for 2 hours before finally giving up. With a puff of dust, the mouse lay on the ground its tiny arms gripping at its next in a dramatic manner. Coughing pathetically, Sanji moved to his side and took the first breath of air that he had taken in the recent two hours.

The purple color that had dominated his face had finally started to fade away. Squeaking in protest, albeit weakly, Sanji curled up into a ball and continued his rest as if nothing had happened. Van was currently sitting on his sleeping bag ma.s.saging his hands. Calluses had developed further as Sanji's tough skin had ground onto Van's hands during the last two hours.
