Halfway through the swing, he diverted the blow to the side instead. Spinning around he swung his sword at the blood child who was just behind him.

It missed his neck just by a little as he leaned back before latching his tail around Jyaha's hand pulling him downwards.

Jyaha pa.s.sed the sword to his free hand, attempting to cut the tail away, but the opposition moved a little faster, arriving in front of Jyaha with his dagger prepared blocking the sword.

Jyaha used his head to deliver a head-b.u.t.t right as the a.s.sa.s.sin's focus was on the weapon, causing him to stagger back wards. He came in to deliver the finis.h.i.+ng blow only to see the blood child vanish.

Swinging his sword wildly around to keep the enemy away, suddenly a tail was coiled around his neck while a hand caught his sword arm.

Before he could do anything else he was pulled down to the ground hard, knocking the back of his head pretty heavily against the pavement.

The a.s.sailant expertly twisted his wrist, causing him to let go of the sword and brought the dagger down on him. With his one hand he caught the arm holding the dagger just inches away from his face.

But he was in no position to fight back. The tail around his neck was slowly but surely depriving him of air while his other hand was being twisted farther and farther, the pain keeping him from concentrating.

The a.s.sa.s.sin pulled his arm back before swinging at his neck through the side, at an agle where it was harder to deflect the force. Jyaha caught it again, but he couldn't put as much strength into it anymore, just as the dagger edeg sunk into his fles

"Stop!!" Sala screamed, diving on top of Jyaha, covering his body with her own. She turned to to the attacker, "it's my life you want isn't it?"

Without any words the person nodded.

She turned towards Jyaha who was still being held down by the tail, "Please release him, I have something I need to talk to him about, after which I'll take my own life."

The tail unraveled around his neck, he gasped trying to regain his strength. He wanted to pick himself up but Sala held his shoulders, a kind smile drifted across her face. "Dear, these past few months with you have been the happiest moments of my life.." a tear went down her cheek. "But I knew at some point it had to end..."

"Even though you promised to runaway with me, I would never run away with you. At the end of the day you are a prince, and I can't take that life away from you..."

"Sala, no..." he was regaining his voice and a little of his strength.

She stood up, backing away from his outreached hands, tears freely flowing down both their faces.

She walked up to the a.s.sa.s.sin and took the dagger from his hand. Opening her mouth, she pried her own fangs off to the surprise of even the killer.

She turned back to Jyaha, a warm smile still firm on her face despite the pain of such an act.

Her life was fading, with what little she had left, she moved towards Jyaha, she didn't last a meter before her body began to fall.

Jyaha scrambled as fast as he could to catch her body.

He hugged her limp flesh in his arms, the once fair skin visibly turning a shade of white. His one hand around her waist, his other caressing her cheek, calling her name over and over, hoping she would open her eyes and say something, anything.

Her limp hand moved upwards, clasping the hand touching her cheeks. Her closed eyes trying to garner what little strength it had to see her lover again. Her lips quivered, "Jyaha..." they whispered.

"Yes, yes what is it?" Jyaha watched intently.

She opened her mouth, but not even air came out, the lips moving to form silent words which he'd never be able to hear. She died with a smile on her face, her lips parted a little to give a glimpse of the beauty she held when she was alive.

Jyaha, kneeled there for days, pleading with G.o.d, the devil, anything even her so that she could open her eyes one more time.

By the end, he opened his hand to see two fangs she'd left for him.

"I left the service of the king that day." Jeff said as he sat next to Jyaha. "Found myself a friend."

Jyaha, didn't show any anger as he laid next to the a.s.sa.s.sin who accompanied him to the death of his true lover.

"I don't hope for your forgiveness, and I think I've done enough, turning a blind eye to all the things you've done in her name." Jeff spoke. "But I guess that's over."

As he said those words, a giant cloud of dust blew up from the entrance, it had finally broken through. Tears started streaming down Jyaha's face as he saw the morning sky darken. A few ragged breaths came out of his mouth.

"What did you say?" Jeff leaned in to hear his words.

"....—-..——.——-.——-..." Jyaha's words were almost inaudible causing Jeff to need to strain himself to hear, but when he sat back up looking at the lifeless body stare into the sky with a smile plastered on its face, he could only say, "lucky b.a.s.t.a.r.d... so you finally found out what she wanted to say."
