Chapter 371 A Letter Written in Blood
There were turbulent waters in Marquess Qin’s Mansion in Jing City.
At the moment, something happened in Shazhou.
In the room, which had been decorated as much as possible but was still rough, Jiang Qizheng was writing a letter in her blood with her fingers moving rapidly!
Ling Zui was unnerved, “Princess, whose blood is not precious? You have bitten your fingers a few times… Or shall I go outside and ask for some blood? Otherwise, your face…”
“Good!” Ling Zui had thought it would take a while to persuade her because the princess, who came over as a gentle and quiet woman, was so murderous at the moment. She seemed not to be in the mood to listen to him. Unexpectedly, as soon as he said that, Jiang Qizheng nodded her head, which made Ling Zui stunned for a moment before he realized it.
He went out to inform Han Jishan’s subordinates, who soon brought in a large basin of steaming blood, promising that he could just ask if he wanted more. Anyway, two days ago Han Jishan’s force launched a sudden attack and contained Jiang Yayue and Jiang Yaqing’s men. Among those, a few of the most important men were kept alive while others were killed.
Not to mention the fact that Chunfu Princess only wanted to write a blood letter, she could have copied several volumes of books!
“By the way, why are you writing this?” Ou Qinglan escaped earlier and Han Jishan’s men went to catch up with her and protect her. So, Ling Zui stayed around to guard Jiang Qizheng. But Jiang Qizheng was writing the blood letter since she had been rescued. That was to say, she had written several blood letters but she kept revising and rewriting because she was so dissatisfied with them.
Ling Zui looked at some of those letters and found they were all the same, which just said that they were trapped by the first branch and the third branch of the Jiang Family. Because she thought there was no way to live, she wrote a blood letter and sent it out, which was not only for having someone take care of her young son but for hoping to take revenge in the future!
So, Ling Zui found it was really a headache, “You… are still alive, aren’t you?” He thought in his heart, “Just tell the truth! Why do you make yourself suffer? Don’t you want to live anymore?” That was not good. The Jiang Family was known to be unreasonable. If Jiang Qizheng committed suicide, they would definitely get angry with him in that he was just around her!
“Young Earl, though you are not on intimate terms with my family, you know that my grandfather likes Uncle Tianao very much, don’t you?” With her finger still moving, Jiang Qizheng gave a sad smile, “If I had died this time, my grandfather wouldn’t have done something. Let alone the fact that I’m alive and it is only a false alarm!”
Ling Zui frowned, “I don’t know about your family for sure… Honestly, the only thing that I care about is that if the thing will be planted on Chunjun. That guy, Kuang, stated categorically that Chunjun was the culprit!”
“That is why I am writing this blood letter!” Jiang Qizheng’s eyes were cold, “Fortunately, two or three of my bodyguards are alive. When I finish this letter, I will ask them to take a short cut to Beijiang and send it to my parents as soon as possible!”
“And then Great General of North and his wife will ask Jiang Tianao and Jiang Tianqi to account for this, won’t they?” Ling Zui’s eyes brightened, “This way, even if Kuang Qingwu tries to slander Chunjun, it won’t work, right? After all, everyone knows that he has a grudge against Chunjun!”
Jiang Qizheng nodded and said decisively, “Right! My grandfather doesn’t care for granddaughters and he shows preference to the first branch. If he knew that we were safe, he would sweep the whole thing under the rug, s.h.i.+ft the blame to Qiu Jinglan, and transfer him to Jing City! For the sake of Qiu Jinglan, the only thing that I can do is to straighten it out with my parents and let them come forward to put pressure on it!”
Ling Zui was relieved and thought that the princess didn’t let it bother her. Now that she was willing to think for Qiu Jinglan, his friend, it would be great!
As he relaxed, he started worrying about the princess out of habit, “But why do you have to have this letter written in your blood? You are the beloved true-born daughter of Great General of North. As long as there is your item, a letter is enough to convince the Great General, isn’t it? Particularly, you bite your fingers to take blood…”
He hurried to look everywhere for medicine and clean handkerchiefs. But Jiang Qizheng glanced down at her bleeding fingers and refused coolly. Her eyes once were unworldly and full of innocence but now there was evilness in them, which was only gained after getting worn out. “How could a home letter compare with a letter in blood? And how could a letter written in others’ blood compare with a letter written in my blood? Such minor injuries can make it easier for my parents to justify their actions when disputing with my grandfather and show that the two branches that my grandfather defended are even crueler… So, there is no need to have my wound dressed. The other day when we gather at Marquess Qin’s Mansion, I will show my hands and witness how ruthless my two good uncles are and that they don’t care about their flesh and blood!”
With medicine he just searched out, Ling Zui was wordless for a while and then said, “I am afraid that your wounds will leave a scar as time goes on. That will be a real pity!”
Jiang Qizheng smiled thinly, “It is really nice of you, Young Earl!” But she still refused to have her wound dressed and was not fearful of leaving a scar.
Ling Zui talked to her a few times while she didn’t listen. “The infighting of the Jiang Family has really p.i.s.sed off the princess!” He had no way but put things back and thought, “I’ve never met a woman who is not afraid to leave a scar since I was a kid! It’s often harder for women to do so than to be killed. Especially the hands are the ones that need to be put out and seen by others all the time, and it’s hard to cover them up… Chunfu Princess’s hands were beautiful and her fingers were slim but now she fears that there are not any scars. She is determined to fight against the first branch and the third branch!”
With that, Ling Zui’s heart sank within him.
“Although Han Jishan’s men attacked suddenly, some of them had been spread out to send letters to Jiang Yayue and Jiang Yaqing… Furthermore, some men were ordered to catch up with Xing as she escaped… I don’t know how Miss Ou is now. She’d better be safe and sound. The family of Jingbo is not to be trifled with! Even if they have been living a wealthy life, they are still bandits. If someone messes up with them, it’s not likely to live a normal life!”
While Ling Zui was worried, Ou Qinglan was using her last strength to stab her dagger into the throat of a pursuer!
Earlier in her escape, Ou Qinglan had spared time to thank her father. If it hadn’t been for Jingbo’s careful coaching and the same harsh climate of her homeland in Beijiang, she would never have escaped so far even with an experienced horse and supplies!
But soon she was not in the mood to think about anything else.
The place she escaped from was Kuang Qingwu’s stronghold. So, these pursuers were certainly familiar with the terrain and climate. And no matter how strict Jingbo was when he trained Ou Qinglan, the rigorous standards for a young lady would not have been the same as those for the elite force!
After all, no one ever imagined that with her status, she would one day run from the elite force of the border army all alone!
It was also fortunate that the men who were hunting her were the Northern Army’s elite. As the daughter of a top general of the Northern Army, Ou Qinglan could not confront these men, but she did know something about their means.
Otherwise, she would have been caught even if she had more strength than now!
“It is all over!” Ou Qinglan thought with exhaustion, “My horse was killed. Food and water ran out and I have lost the way… I can’t make it!”
The dagger was sticking out of the enemy’s throat and the hot blood was sprinkled on Ou Qinglan’s head and face. But she was too tired to draw her dagger out!
“I hate to… I cannot be reconciled!” Ou Qinglan struggled to seize the hilt of her dagger as she muttered with an effort, “Shazhou, how much further is it? Qizheng, Ling Zui… Jiang Yadan… Father… Mother… And him…”
The overwhelming fatigue came over her and every moment of wakefulness seemed like eternal torture. In Ou Qinglan’s mind, she felt as if thousands of years had pa.s.sed or she had just snapped her fingers. She drew her short sword slowly and doggedly, feeling as if the spark of her life was like a candle in the wind, which might go out at any second.
Not knowing how much time went by, she suddenly woke up to the shaking ground.
“There go them again!”
Ou Qinglan’s red eyes glinted ferociously like a wolf and she pulled out the dagger which was deep into the enemy’s throat, “Let me see if I can kill one more!”
But after a while, when the wildly running procession stopped near Ou Qinglan, she heard a voice which made her quite surprised, “Miss… Miss Ou!”
Ou Qinglan looked up incredulously. When Qiu Jinglan took off his hood that sheltered him from wind and storm and there appeared a face that she had hoped to see, she thought that it seemed as if time had stopped.
Not only was she surprised, but Qiu Jinglan was terribly shocked in his heart! He dropped his reins to the subordinates and dismounted rapidly. And he took the water bag hanging on the saddle as he walked to her. “Drink it… Why are you here?” Qiu Jinglan thought in his mind, “D*mn it! Is there anything wrong with Han Jishan’s arrangement?”
Ou Qinglan drank with loud sucking noises. Her life nearly ebbed away. So, despite Qiu Jinglan was close by, Ou Qinglan couldn’t afford to keep her manner. She drank by Qiu Jinglan’s hands until he took the water bag away and reminded her in a deep voice, “Miss Ou, you are not well now. You’d better not drink too much!”
And he asked someone to take some dry food. But when the order was just given, Ou Qinglan pulled at his sleeve with her feeble hand and shook her head, “Qizheng and Ling Zui are still there. Especially Qizheng, she…”
After hearing Ou Qinglan’s description, Qiu Jinglan’s face suddenly turned ugly. According to his agreement with Han Jishan, there was not such a thing to have Ou Qinglan run off alone to Shazhou for help! Ou Qinglan, who was good at horse riding and archery, was not as n.o.ble as Jiang Qizheng, but she was still a spoilt and pampered lady! If something had gone wrong on the way, she would have suffered from cold or fallen down, not to mention being killed by the pursuers. And then how would he explain to the Ou family?
Qiu Jinglan was not going to marry into the Ou Family but he also didn’t want to mess up with them!
“Han Jishan, you are an old devil!” He said, outraged, “You have changed the plan… Are you trying to trap me?”
With a strong effort to conceal his anger, Qiu Jinglan said something to comfort Ou Qinglan and got a line of soldiers to look after and escort her. And then he stood up, “It’s urgent! Miss Ou, I beg your pardon if I have done wrong!”
Having watched his figure disappear, Ou Qinglan bit her lip and mounted up the horse which was vacated by a soldier. In her heart, a sense of loss was mixed with unspeakable sweetness, “He recognized me at once, didn’t he?”
After walking for a distance with the muddle in her head, she thought to ask, “Are we going to Shazhou?”
“No!” The soldiers who were asked to protect her looked at each other. The captain hid his meaningful look and said reverently, “Miss Ou, the matter that you were attacked has a great deal with some people in Shazhou! So, for your safety, we will escort you to… The temporary room of the eighth young master Jiang.”
