He saw the stands as he got closer to the location. As soon as he stepped into the resting area far the contestants, a popup appeared. Quest: Win the compet.i.tion.
It's a pity he can never see the rewards or the penalties for failure. He shrugged and looked for a quite spot to sit down. The contestant's common area was pretty luxurious, they even had food out. He was pretty hungry and he wasn't too sure when he was going to eat again. So he grabbed a plate and starting stuffing himself. A young girl chimed in. Rita, Lv.1, Intellectual by nature, "You shouldn't eat before a match. You will just vomit it out."
He gave her an innocent look with a piece of poultry in his mouth. He ignored her and placed some more food on his plate. Rita shook her head, "Well, your funeral. And besides it really disgusting what you are doing. Only pigs eat like that."
Radley grabbed a meatball and shoved it into his mouth. Rita looked at him in disgust, shook her head and walked away. After a while he was satisfied and sat down in a corner away from people. Some lady came in and announced that they should a.s.semble out in the field of the arena. They all slowly made their way out.
They all were met with a joyous roar from the crowds. Radley was impressed. He didn't know that people were this into a bunch of low levels
There was a call for silence. Everyone settled down and took a seat.
An elegant lady probably in her late twenties early thirties spoke up, Radley was too far to see her stats, "My dear fellow Arcanians, I am here today to bring in the forty-fifth inauguration of the level ones. They will compete…"
Radley looked at the long line as the lady continued in the background. The guy next to him whispered, "Isn't this exciting stuff. That lady there is called Adira, she is the youngest ever to receive the t.i.tle of magister at the age of twenty-nine. A b.l.o.o.d.y legend! Some rumours say that her daughter will be the next youngest magister. From what I heard she is here already at the age of sixteen. Can you believe it!?"
Radley was confused as to why the guy was talking to him. He just shrugged and looked at everyone. Everyone had such great equipment compared to him. All he had was the flimsy armour he made and a knife. He felt a pang of jealousy. Most of these people must have a sponsor of some sort and he had to scratch and claw for everything he had. Lucky b.a.s.t.a.r.ds
She finished her speech and made her way to the contestants. She greeted them by hand one by one until she saw Radley. She gave him a quick up and down and skipped him.
Erina happened to be in the crowds when she saw that. It wanted to make her flip, "What the h.e.l.l was that!? She skipped Radley like he was nothing!? That b.i.t.c.h!
Her friend places her hand over her mouth, "Are you asking for a death sentence! That is a magister after all."
"Yeah, but she is supposed to treat everyone equally."
"Perhaps she saw something in him she didn't like."
"That is straight-up discrimination."
Radley on the other hand couldn't be bothered less. He wanted to end this compet.i.tion as quickly as possible. He wanted his new axe. He just couldn't wait.
They were all paired up using lots and moved to different locations on the arena. The other half went back inside.
He was paired up against a young man carrying a large axe. Radley found the choice curious. Even if they were considered slightly tougher than the average human at level one, they were still compared to a normal human. Radley could see him straining to hold the axe. A level ten male man stood in between the two and signalled that the match had begun. Truth be told Radley wasn't paying much attention to the rules of this compet.i.tion but it looked like it would be in some tournament form or another.
The young man blasted forward at incredible speed which meant he was using some sort of ability. The man swung down and hit no man's land.
Radley pivoted on his back foot to avoid and sent a punch cras.h.i.+ng straight into his jaw. The young man's eyes went white as he collapsed to the ground. A popup appeared. 40 Invo points. No Diff points. The ref couldn't believe what he just saw. It was an instant KO. Radley shrugged and turned around before moving to the resting area. He was the first one to win.
The lady in at the entrance showed him to an empty area where he sat down on a chair in a corner. Surprisingly another person came in not long after Radley had just sat. A girl named Elita, Lv 1 Perfectionist by nature.
He shrugged, he wasn't going to mix in with the girl. She wore a mask and had black hair. Two daggers to here side and a pet.i.te build. She wore clothes that was meant for movement very short leather pants with high boots and wore leather pads on her upper legs, the same went for her torso. She wore a very skimpy top with pads protecting the rest. She noticed him and stood. Radley could hear faint grumbling beneath the mask. Radley shrugged and closed his eyes. It took about an hour before all the fights in his division alone was finished. Rita saw him and walked towards him, "Well, I guess you made it. Probably by luck."
The man he faced walked up to him still rubbing his jaw, "Hey man, you have got to teach me how you fight like that. Apparently you got the fastest knockout ever."
"Thanks, but I should probably tell you that you should reduce your weight and protect the key area. Like your jaw line, also don't just charge in."
"My sponsor always told me that the element of surprise was the best form of combat. Clearly it doesn't work on everyone."
"Ah, so you did use a technique. Though that your speed was a bit unnatural."
The young man nodded and walked away. This left Rita speechless, "Perhaps they are exaggerating."
"Rita was it. Perhaps you should rest up for the next match, and not be speaking with me?"
Rita nodded and walked away.
