LEIA

It was late at night when I got so thirsty, my throat my burning. But Zayn wasn't here. I had to force him to leave at some point in the night although he protested fervently. Still, fiancée or not, he was a non-mahram and I couldn't very well let him remain in my room.

I knew there was a b.u.t.ton by the side table for me to ring the nurse but it seemed too far away. I gasped for air and when I tried sitting up, my st.i.tches felt like they would burst open any moment.

"Dad?" I called out, knowing my voice wouldn't reach him where he sat outside my room.

I moved again, trying to reach for the b.u.t.ton but cried out as pain sliced through my abdomen and burned all the way to my legs.

Right at that moment, the door swept open, revealing a dark figure of a male and through my hazy vision, I knew it was Ammar.

"Please," I gasped. "Give me some water."

He strode towards the table at once and poured some water from the jug into a gla.s.s, bringing it to me. I gulped it down, handing it back to him and lying back down, sighing in relief.

"You okay?" He asked, now strolling towards Abdar Rahman. He grinned when he saw him, so bright it actually hurt my eyes. But my heart warmed and I relaxed back, smiling lightly.

Ammar looked scared to hold him but he reluctantly did so when I encouraged him.

"I think I might drop him," His voice trembled and I snorted, amused. He walked over to me, handing him over. "This feels so strange. I'm a Dad. Wow." He blew out a breath.

It didn't feel fair to tell him everything about Zayn, but I knew I should. So, I did.

"Um . . ." I played with Abdar Rahman's small feet. "Zayn was here today."

Ammar stiffened. "He was?"

"I have to tell you something, Ammar. Please listen this time. I am absolutely serious."

He threw down his head. "You're still thinking about getting a divorce, aren't you? You think that little boy can save you? For G.o.d's sake, Leia. At least think of your son."

He was going to play that card, huh? I scoffed, though my hand was slowly sneaking to my phone. "Don't worry, that's not something you have to tell me. I'm doing this for him. So that he never has to see his mother get humiliated by his father; so that he doesn't have to ever face your fists."

I got hold of my phone finally under the pillow and quickly ringed a bell, looking up innocently at Ammar after I was done.

Anger flashed across his face. "I've never hit you! But now I think maybe I should've," He turned his head sideways. "It would teach you a lesson or two to keep your mouth shut."

For a second I was scared. Not for myself. For Abdar Rahman. What if he harmed him in some way? He looked murderous.

"You can still see Abdar Rahman," I wasn't cruel to not let him ever see his father.

"Abdar Rahman? You named him without consulting me?" He sat up so fast, his chair toppled over and I clutched Abdar Rahman to my chest, swinging him lightly.

"Maybe if you'd bothered to come earlier, we could've discussed."

Where did he go, anyway? Whatever. I was beyond caring.

"Give him to me," Ammar tried to wrench him out of my arms but I resisted, tears stinging my eyes.

"No, please. Let's talk it out."

Abdar Rahman made a face like he was about to cry so I let go and to my utter relief, Ammar only walked him to his cot, laying him down. Then he started grabbing my stuff, the hospital bag Mom had prepared, shoving more things into it.

"What are you doing?" I asked hesitantly.

"I'm taking you home. Back to the UK. The flight's booked; it's in another six hours."

I was so shocked, I couldn't even form a word. He knew something like this would happen, didn't he? He knew I would try to get a divorce. He knew. But he was unwilling to let me go.

Why?

I was about to ask him just that, when the door burst open, revealing a furious-looking Zayn.
