"You're one crazy son of a b*tch. You know that?" Joe said with a deep sigh and followed Caesar down the stairs. They didn't even get the chance to rest before going out and causing some mayhem; however, Joe wasn't one to complain.
They moved down the stairs and exited the tavern without bidding the inn-keeper farewell. Their conspicuous appearance garnered the attention of a few residents, alas, they were far too busy indulging in their sumptuous food to pay them much heed.
As such, both Caesar and Joe soon reached the bustling streets of Limbo Kingdom, leaving Richard and Joanna behind. They walked past the many merchants and foot-stands with one goal in mind—finding the palace.
In contrast to Caesar's hometown, Limbo kingdom was much more vast. Furthermore, the buildings were erected higher. The fact that they still couldn't perceive where the grand palace was located where they currently stood was a testament to that.
The extensive chapels and banks were considerably high in number. Pastors preached on the streets, and debt collectors roamed the residential areas. Armored up adventurers could be seen in every nook and cranny, accepting missions and becoming mercenaries.
Even some members of abnormal races were present, such as elves and a strange blue race that possessed tentacles for facial hair. They were big and st.u.r.dy; their muscles were taut and seemed to pop out of their clothes.
Contrary to their imposing appearance, however, they seemed to be a relatively peaceful race. While carrying amicable smiles on their faces, they volunteered for construction work, medical aid, and some even worked at the church.
Of course, due to these rather outlandish races, a dwarf could be considered somewhat normal. Not many people even batted an eye at the appearance of a dwarf. In fact, dwarves were considered one of the more peaceful races that supplied humans with weapons. They weren't very aggressive and were regarded as quite friendly.
Naturally, not all dwarves were good. Joe's unique race "Berserker" was feared throughout the lands, for a good reason. Alas, most of those stories had long become lost in the sands of time; they were merely told as bedtime tales now.
As Caesar thought to here, they soon arrived in a circular plaza. A huge group of people were busy surrounding two primitive devices. They consisted of a wooden frame with an angled blade that ran along the grooves–a guillotine.
Caesar squinted his eyes as he observed the two b.l.o.o.d.y heads that were placed inside of a basket. They were both beautiful women with traces of abuse showing on their faces. However, a set of strange horns were erected from their skull.
The crowd cheered and applauded once both of the women were executed, especially the churchmen. Caesar didn't bother to stay and procrastinate, so he led Joe through an inconspicuous alleyway and continued his search for the palace.
He could feel that Joe's affable mood was ruined and his fists were clenched. Caesar was quite aware of Joe's ideologies. He believed that all people deserved better. In Joe's opinion, public executions were unethical and brutal.
They continued in this somewhat awkward fas.h.i.+on until finally, the colossal palace presented itself. Unlike Rahvin kingdom, the Limbo palace was not placed on top of a mound. Instead, it was protected by layers of walls.
Each row of protection was taller than the other, forming a seemingly impregnable fortress. An archway that was protected by a dozen or so guards was placed in the front. A few elves were even present on top of the walls, threatening trespa.s.sers with their bows.
Caesar made sure that Joe was not hiding any weapons and approached the guards with a slight smile on his face. His red eyes glimmered dangerously as he slicked a few strands of hair back. Forcefully grabbing the attention of the guards.
The elves pointed their bow and arrows down while the guards placed their dominant hand on the hilts of their sword. The a.s.sumed to be captain of the squad took a few steps forward and gestured for Caesar.
"State your business, or go on your way!" he stated perfunctorily.
The guard was rather burly, and scars of war showcased itself on his face. His armor was scratched and dented in certain places, further proving his merits. He possessed the aura of a veteran and a competent leader.
"I am the current representative of Rahvin kingdom, the crowned prince," Caesar explained, "Limbo kingdom demonstrated their interest in speaking with us. Thus, I have arrived."
The middle-aged guard scrutinized Caesar for a few moments as he spoke with his colleagues. Suddenly, he took out a rather large notebook and scanned through the names on the list. Once he turned the pages enough times, he finally nodded his head in acceptance.
"Very well, come with me," the middle-aged guard said respectfully and ordered for the gates to be opened. Since Caesar's ident.i.ty was now confirmed, it was considered common courtesy to treat royals with respect.
As such, the middle-aged man led Caesar through the entrance and layered walls. Many soldiers and elves alike glanced at Joe strangely as he walked by, but none of them were brave enough to say a thing.
Like this, they soon approached the graceful palace gates. The double-doors were painted in an exotic green, accentuated with golden rims. The handles were embedded with beautiful rubies, further proving Limbo kingdoms wealth.
A minister-like looking man with a set of dark robes was standing in front of the gates. He held a small piece of parchment as he observed both Caesar and Joe. "Mephisto Pheles, Crowned Prince of Rahvin kingdom, has arrived," he stated curtly.
In response, the ma.s.sive doors creaked open with a few rows of maids and butlers bowing respectfully. Their appearance was awe-inspiring, and the minister couldn't help but smile arrogantly after seeing Joe's surprise.
"Welcome to the palace, prince. I'll be the one leading you to the library, where our very own esteemed prince is located."
A professional smile formed on Caesar's face, "excellent, please do lead the way."
