"Was I wrong?" Alyon thought, closing his eyes before his brother who just aimed his sword at the younger phreinian's forehead. "Yes. Perhaps, I was wrong after all."
"STOP IT!" Freyja's voice echoed around the room, startling both Galun and Alyon. "Get away from Alyon!" She commanded, before summoning the celestial rune blade. She charged at Galun, instantly saving Alyon from certain death. Alyon and Galun were both caught in surprise, seeing the white aura flowing around Freyja's body. They didn't know how she managed to re-awaken her aura, but Alyon couldn't help but smile in relief. "You did it, Lenfiare!"
Freyja didn't bother explaining and quickly engaged Galun. "Release Afra and I might spare you." She commanded, but he didn't sway. He too, summoned his strongest sword from the regalia of the Reini clan.
"Alyon, are you alright?" Alaric ran to the injured prince, and helped him stand and get away from the fierce battlefield. "Don't worry about me. I just need a few minutes to recuperate." He a.s.sured, his eyes locked to his brother and Freyja. "I've never imagined that I'd be in the mercy of a human."
"It's okay, you're our comrade for today. I'll help you." Alaric a.s.sured, using a bit of his aura to close Alyon's most serious wounds.
Although Freyja's rune blade is visibly stronger, Galun's combat experience still puts him at an advantage. He has been using his aura for hundreds of years as compared to the Lenfiare, who just began using her celestial aura for a mere ten, human years. As the battle lasted longer and longer, Freyja was drawn in a more and more disadvantageous position. Unlike the adept Galun, her incomplete celestial body is starting to grow tense and painful, reacting to the magnitude of aura she's been continuously using. She was cut, here and there, but managed to avoid fatal ones. Galun wouldn't give her even a second of rest, or even time to call her guardians. He was like a machine that keeps going and going and going. "This is not good." Alyon stared at his wounds, and was frustrated that they were healing very slowly. Alaric saw the worry in Alyon's eyes. He stood up and walked closer to Freyja.
"Stop it rune master! You are a human! There's no way you can—" Alyon tried to stop Alaric, but his warning was ignored. Alyon just watched the human rune master, step into the battle, casting his strongest of spells. Freyja was cornered, but Alaric turned the floor to a thick, sheet of ice, and this helped her slide away from Galun and escape a potentially fatal attack. Alaric kept on summoning walls after walls of ice, which were easily crushed by Galun's sword. While Alaric did that, Freyja used the time to summon Aria and heal her injuries as fast as she could. Then, she returned to fight Galun, while Alaric rested. Alyon was watching, he couldn't believe that there existed such harmony between a celestial and a human. Their timing, their styles, he concluded that there has to be some strong bond for these two to execute such a synchronous attack. "They must have known each other's' skills, and capabilities… and, trust."
And in no time, While Freyja received Galun's attacks, Galun just found himself immobilized. His feet were cold, and frozen! He tried to melt the ice with his aura, but it's taking longer than he expected. "How the—" And with this golden chance, Freyja slashed Galun's body with her celestial sword.
Galun fell down, eyes open, feet frozen. He was alive, his aura managed to save him from instant death, but he can no longer move his body. "No… way." Galun thought, desperately trying to stand, but his body just won't let him. Freyja sighed, called Astrid back to conserve her energy before walking towards the equally tired runemaster.
Watching carefully, Alyon understood how these two managed to immobilize his brother. While Freyja ran around, she's actually leaving bits of her aura in Alaric's iced floor, surrounding Galun. All this time, they were leading Galun to a spot where they could corner him. And that's exactly what happened. Alaric reformed the ice floor, combined with Freyja's white aura, freezing Galun's legs instantly.
"Kill him." Alyon said. "Why won't you kill him?"
"I need to know where Kirin is… And Afra too. It's more important than taking his life away." She said, walking towards the incapacitated phreinian. Yes, they can search the hideout room by room. But Freyja didn't want to waste time. She wanted to get Kirin and Afra as soon as possible, and then return to Keon. "Tell me! One word, and I'll spare you." Freyja repeated, golden eyes piercing through Galun's.
"I'll do it then." Alyon walked towards his brother. "Galun, where is the silver haired man? Where is Afra?" But Galun just smirked. "Find them yourselves." Alyon drew his sword and pierced it right through his brother's arm. Galun groaned, but Alyon kept a straight face. "Where is the silver haired man? Where is Afra?"
"Alyon!" Freyja exclaimed, trying to stop the younger prince. She did want to kill Galun, but having Alyon do that just didn't seem right to her. But Kirin and Afra comes first. She clenched her fists and turned to Alaric. "Let's go and find them Alaric, I don't think Galun will talk after all."
"Wait." Alyon stopped her. "You are no human, Lenfiare. You can't be forever attached to human feelings. If you're disturbed at what I'm doing to my own brother, then you'd better not consider yourself a Lenfiare! We are both royalty, Lenfiare. We both know very well what it means to be born in the royal family."
"It's not that I'm disturbed. I don't care what you do to him. It's just that I… changed my mind and I think it's faster if we look for them." She explained.
"You are not a good liar Lenfiare. But I appreciate the concern." For the first time, Alyon smiled at her, before turning back to his brother. "For all the phreinians you killed, for all the havoc you caused in Phrein…. For the greed and hatred you implanted in our people's hearts, I, Reini Alyon of Phrein, sentence you to death." He pulled his sword out of Galun's arm and pointed it at his mid-section, where the phreinian heart lies.
"Wait! The man is in the floor above! The guardian is there! He's alive! He's fine! Spare me! Spare me, my brother!" Galun suddenly lost his proud façade, the moment he felt Alyon's resolution. "Listen Alyon, I was wrong, so please…" He explained, trying to talk his way out.
"Brother," Alyon smiled at him as well, and for the last time, he called him with a gentle voice. "Thank you for everything." And with one, swift strike, he plunged his sword deep into Galun's heart. His blood gus.h.i.+ng out of the wound. His eyes were open. Alyon pulled out his eyes and crushed them with his own hands, a ritual for criminals of Phrein. Freyja and Alaric watched closely, no matter how much they didn't want to. And soon after, Alyon wiped his b.l.o.o.d.y hands on Galun's cape, before walking past Freyja and Alaric.
"Lenfiare, runemaster… you heard him, didn't you? Let's go get your friend." Alyon said and Freyja and Alaric ran, up, to where Kirin is.
