"Explain what, Week?"
I stopped. I didn't know, and Kai just shrugged at me when I looked over at him. Angel's eyebrow raised for a second before she stood up and started to walk away. I quickly grabbed her wrist and stopped her, and she slowly turned to me with shock written on her face.
"What are you to Rose, Angel?"
She stared at me before looking to the ground. I felt a burning sensation in my hand before I pulled away. There was a burn mark on my hand, I looked up and Angel was gone.
"How did she do that?" Kai asked me, staring at my hand.
"What do you mean, she obviously has magic!"
"That's not possible, Week. She's told me multiple times before that she's a human."
~~~~~~~~~~~
Angel has been quiet the past few weeks, even going to locking us out of her room to keep us away. My hand still had the burn mark and it wouldn't go away, it only seemed to fester and burn worse than it had when she first burned me. I had bandages on it and Kai had tried to heal it to little effect.
It had to be around midnight when I decided I wanted to go see Rose's grave. It looked so different in the glow of the moonlight. It seemed to be positively glowing as I walked up to the smooth stone. I placed a hand to the writing as I knelt down next to it, feeling power radiating through it. I felt like someone was watching me again and I pulled away to jump and scan the area around me. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
I slowly lowered myself back down to the gravestone before me and pushed my forehead to hit, letting out a deep sigh.
"Rose, my Rosie girl, I'm sorry," I started, turning my body and leaning up against it, letting myself relax as I spoke clearly to the girl. "I'm sorry I didn't get there fast enough. I'm sorry I couldn't save you when you were all I had. I'm sorry that I dragged you back into this world even when I knew what would happen," I choked on my words as a sob hit me like a train.
"I ended up becoming a murderer over you, Rosie girl. I killed the one person in the world who ever wanted to kill you, and he didn't just do that. He was abusive to me, my mom, and to your Lizzie. That's why I stayed away from you for so long before, Rose. I was scared, horrified even. I wanted to find a way to keep you safe from the people who would want to hurt you, including my father, instead I took you from one abusive situation and threw you into a new one.
"I made a choice a long time ago when your mother gave me a message about a week after you were born. She wasn't dead, but she abandoned this world and her promised to be with her soulmate. She told me how you would end up dying at about two years old and told me to protect you to the best I could.
"She was a queen in our world, Rosie girl. The queen of h.e.l.l, and she had been one since Lucifer broke apart his territory. When she left, my father took over and it made him compulsive and evil. I wished she would come back and take back what she had left behind, but everything happens for a reason, Rosie girl. Even you being gone does, yet I don't understand it. I never will, because now I've lost my light. I'll never get it back again, will I?" I stopped and stared out at the roses surrounding me.
Suddenly, the red and pink roses around me started to turn blue, like a frost was covering them. I stood and spun around, noticing the grave was replaced with a purple glowing portal. I stared at it as the scenery around me changed. A gazebo stood above me and I looked at a girl sitting next to the portal, staring down into the scene of the pool in front of her. She was a small thing, with features that reminded me much of Rose sitting there, but the brown hair and blue eyes set her apart from her. The scene in the portal continued and I looked down to watch it. It was me with Angel and Kai, and this was when we were out at her grave a few weeks ago.
I watched us until I noticed how Kai seemed to be staring directly at the portal before it all went black. The girl gasped and flew back against a column holding the gazebo above us. Her sapphire eyes flashed a silver, then a red, before settling back into the blue color.
The scene melted away and I fell to the ground, pulling my knees to my chest. Someone was watching us, it was a girl I had never seen before. I looked to my hand and the burn in it had completely disappeared from my skin. It was strange, and whatever I was feeling when I looked at her, I immediately willed away.
I felt like I was floating and all I felt was instant love for the girl, yet that was impossible. She wasn't real.
She wasn't Rose.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stared into the blankness around me and narrowed my eyes, trying to focus on something and see through the black.
"Week?" I heard and spun around as quickly as I could. Rose stood there, staring straight at me. Her eyes were the bright silver I remembered and her hair was practically white.
"Rose," I said and ran to her, I held her in my arms for about thirty seconds before I pulled away and held her face in my hands, examining her.
"Week, I'm scared."
"You're alright, Rosie girl. Can you tell me where you are?"
"Week, I'm scared. It hurts."
My joy melted away instantly and I held her at arms length and stared at her. I watched her features melt away and become the girl I had seen earlier. I pulled away and backed up, falling down as the girl turned and began to walk away from me.
