Chapter 358: Quantum Deity

Upon hearing this label, Chen Chen came to understand that what Little X meant by the Prophet System was that it was a set of predictive algorithms. The nature of its prediction stemmed from a combination of all the variables in the world to yield an answer closest to the truth.

“Won’t there be a significant deviation when it comes to forms of prediction like this?”

Chen Chen considered for a moment before bringing this up. “The deviation will be increasingly notable as the events predicted are farther away from the present.”

“Here’s how it works.”

Little X explained, “According to my calculations, the accuracy of the Prophet System prediction reaches up to 99 percent if the event occurs within a one second to twenty-four hours window from the time of prediction. As this time frame grows larger, the accuracy of the prediction falls off significantly. The minute details of the prediction are especially affected by this, causing its accuracy to drop off a cliff.

“For example, if the window is only within a single day, I can predict everything that will occur to a certain individual. This even includes the number of times this person will blink and breathe. However, if the time frame is stretched to a few years later, I can only provide a general timeline of what’s to come for him. This would be rough data such as whether he’ll be promoted, lose his job, break up, and whatnot.

“However, what we’re trying to predict now isn’t the future, but the past instead.”

Little X suddenly switched tone and said, “Things become a lot easier if we’re predicting something that has already occurred. After all, what has already happened is a given and constant. We’ll have countless evidence available to us to limit all the subsequent variables and fix them into constants as well. This way, the predicted results will be closest to the truth!”

“I understand now.”

Chen Chen nodded. “In that case, I approve and authorize the temporary use of the nuclear power plant and the two nuclear fusion reactors to generate enough power for your use. Make sure to keep enough power for our reserve, will this do?”

“It’s not enough.”

Little X answered after calculating, “There’s still a good half missing. Judging by this rate of power generation, I’ll need ten hours to tabulate the results.”

“Ten hours is too long. Both Eco Science City and the Spire Experimental Base cannot run for ten hours without a dedicated power system.”

Chen Chen frowned.

“Then I can try using other computers to tabulate for us.”

Little X thought of an alternative. “We can reallocate a part of this calculation to the Internet and have other people’s computers perform the calculation for us.”

“Can regular computers do this?”

“The computing power of a single personal computer may prove to be insignificant, but ten thousand personal computers combined is equivalent to a supercomputer. Besides, there are probably far more than a billion computers left on in an idle state all over the world...”

Little X snickered devilishly. “This way, I only need to dedicate one-tenth of my processing power to achieve computational efficiency greater than mine. According to my estimation, I only need an hour to complete running the entire program!”

“Alright, it’s worth a try!”

Chen Chen nodded his approval.

Following Chen Chen’s given order, the Gantz server machine started to rumble and emit a deep buzzing sound.

From where Chen Chen stood, he could see scarlet red rays creeping along the surface of the Gantz server machine. At the same time, an announcement was played over the entirety of the Eco Science City, the Spire Experimental Base, and all of the factories inside the industrial park:

“Due to maintenance in the nuclear power plant, there will be a temporary power outage in the districts, hotels, and factories, safe for the advanced laboratories and recuperation inst.i.tutions. We’ll notify you as soon as the maintenance is complete. Thank you for your cooperation...”

As soon as the announcement was played, a wave of darkness quickly swept over the Eco Science City in the distance. For the very first time, the city would experience a power outage...

Deep inside the industrial park, Little X had officially connected to the powering system of the nuclear power plant. The Prophet System was subsequently activated as well.

Meanwhile, inside a technology data center somewhere in the region of the North American Continent...

Inside a tightly secured machine room, hundreds of gigantic server machine arrays were left in an idle state. Now and then, one or two maintenance personnel in the machine room would pa.s.s by these machinery and monitor the blinking green lights on the host machines.

The crew of maintenance personnel was familiar with what the green light status displayed on these machines meant.

Suddenly and without warning, one of the signal lights on one of the server machines in the machine room that should otherwise not light up suddenly lit up. It only blinked for a brief moment.

After that, the same happened to a second machine, then a third...

It did not take long before the same thing happened to nearly all of the server machines. One of the maintenance personnel happened to notice this abnormal flash and instinctively reached for his monitor tablet to investigate. When he saw that there was nothing out of the ordinary in the readings displayed, he shook his head and took his leave.

Unbeknownst to him, just several seconds ago, a foreign Trojan had invaded the back-end of these server machines. Without affecting the server machine’s original processes, they began to simultaneously run a third-party program...

In an International Astronomical Center in Europe.

A computer connected to an external network was turned on silently.

This computer had just been shut down moments ago. Due to a minor slip-up of one of the employees, the power was not cut off after the computer was used to browse the Internet. The device was only powered off.

It did not take Little X much effort to detect the signal from the motherboard of this computer as the device was still powered despite being shut down. This was part of its implemented design to help it receive initialization signals at any given time. Little X exploited this feature and simulated a power-on signal which was transmitted using voltage pulses. With that, the computer was turned on remotely by itself...

Strings of code quickly filled the display as if someone was seated in front of the computer and operating it. Lines of paragraphs were displayed:

“Searching for an external port... External port detected, establis.h.i.+ng connection to local area network...”

“Internal system detected, establis.h.i.+ng connection...”

“Booting up in standby mode. Initializing secondary control module, standby...”

“Data scanning sequence complete, receiving compressed packages...”

“Data reception complete, initializing large-scale unit processing.”

“Camouflage mode activated... Turning off external display... Operation complete.”

Immediately after that, the large computing arrays in the machine room started to produce a dull buzzing sound. Using the computer connected to an external network as an intermediary, Little X seized control of all the computers in the machine room and converted them into part of her auxiliary computing system.

However, anyone stumbling onto the scene would see nothing but plain darkness inside the machine room as if they had been shut off for some time. What they did not know was that these machines were all operating on low battery mode. It did not matter if any staff member were to turn them on or off manually. These machines would continue to circulate information back and forth in camouflage mode.

The same scenario was happening on a global scale. Little X had transformed into the deadliest virus on the Internet and injected Trojan into every single vulnerable device. It only took minutes for hundreds of millions of computers to be affected.

This phenomenon was rapidly spreading across the world. Little X had packaged the necessary data and branched them off to all online computers in the world to help with the calculation. The output was then transmitted back to Little X for final aggregation.

The personal computers themselves may not be efficient, but the quant.i.ty more than made up for it as hundreds of millions of computers combined made for a prominent force. However, this maneuver had caused network congestion in most parts of the world and overloaded most information networks.

This anomaly was quickly identified by the supervision departments of all the continents. These monitoring departments observed an unbelievable amount of information pa.s.sing through the World Wide Web. When they attempted to intercept and decipher the data, they found that they could only intercept a part of the data and these intercepted data could not be translated unless they had access to the entire data flow.

When they attempted to reverse-engineer this process and download the entire data stream, they realized they would need a data storage equivalent to the National Data Center to contain all of the data.

So, each of these departments of their respective continents began reporting this incident to the higher-ups and prepared to counter what Little X was doing. The problem, however, was that mobilizing all the personnel and infrastructure for accomplis.h.i.+ng this would take at least several hours. By the time they had everything ready to be deployed, this mysterious phenomenon had vanished.

The members of each of these continents were bewildered.

An hour later.

By this point, Little X had recovered all the data reports yielded from the calculations and was starting to integrate the data packets to be decompressed later.

“If I had to guess, I’d say there’s quite the spectacle in the cybersecurity departments in all of the continents right now.”

Chen Chen shook his head with a bitter smile on his face. “It looks like you’re going to need a designated high-power nuclear fusion reactor in the future. Otherwise, it’s going to be difficult to put your extreme proficiency to use.”

“It’s okay, there’s such a wide gap between our computing speed that there’s no chance of their information collection speed matching up against mine.”

Little X described, “If I was a light-footed, agile thief, then their departments would be as good as an elderly, perhaps even blind police. The most that they can manage is to discover the tracks I leave behind but it’s impossible for them to track me down using those breadcrumbs.”

“I hope so.”

Chen Chen turned to look at the silver-white cube beside him.

This cube was the projection tool used for this occasion.

This cube was instantiated from Earth in the dimension of Prometheus. Its features were very elaborate and akin to a camera and a projector. The only difference being that it was a holographic projector.

After that, Chen Chen decided that this was a useful tool and went ahead and instantiated several more of them from the movie. Since the engineers did not have to proceed with caution for fear of damaging it, they had gradually managed to figure out the production process of some of its high-precision parts.

Although holographic projection technology existed in the real world as well, most of them were not in their mature stages yet. Not only was it costly to produce and came with many restrictions, but the color scale was also one-dimensional and the angles projected were narrow as well.

However, with Chen Chen’s consistent efforts, a fully-mature holographic projection technology would be developed soon.

Chen Chen gave this silver-white Rubik’s Cube a simple, impressionable name — the Silver Cube.

Meanwhile, Little X quickly integrated all the compressed packages and decompressed them. A 10TB large video was quickly generated.

The length of the video was — 30 seconds.

“Begin playing.”

Following Little X’s prompt, three square blocks on the front face of the silver cube suddenly opened. Chen Chen’s surrounding environment changed as well, immediately s.h.i.+fting from the original simple and barren factory building to a lush, dense forest!

However, Chen Chen did not direct his attention to the surrounding greenery but instead to a peculiar building that immediately came into view in front of him.

The building was roughly thirty meters tall and up to a hundred meters wide, similar to a gigantic shopping complex. What was peculiar about it was that it was built in the middle of a vast forest.

What was even stranger was that the building was sealed with a formation of walls constructed with a unique material that cast a large patch of gray along the exterior of the building.

In front of the building’s gate, dozens of huge golden strips could be seen inserted into the ground to construct an odd arrangement. This scene was especially intriguing to Chen Chen.

The imagery immediately s.h.i.+fted and seemed to have entered the first-person view. Chen Chen saw the perspective of the camera slowly advancing until it pa.s.sed through the entrance of the building.

Chen Chen saw that the interior of the building was vacant. The inside of the building was decorated with a splatter of bright gold but there were no high-tech installations to be seen anywhere in the building. The only thing notable was that it was extremely clean inside.

The camera continued to pan further inside and soon pa.s.sed through several secured checkpoints until Chen Chen came to an elevator. The doors of the elevator were made of gla.s.s and completely transparent. What he saw through the transparent gla.s.s door made his eyes turn wide.

What was behind the gla.s.s door was a magnificently large s.p.a.ce. This s.p.a.ce took up approximately thirty percent of the building’s total s.p.a.ce. As it turned out, the central section of the building that Chen Chen had entered was such an enormous s.p.a.ce.

Many electromagnetic devices could be seen inside this large s.p.a.ce behind the gla.s.s door. What was even more shocking was that as these devices operated, they created a magnetic levitation effect which caused a tiny laboratory to levitate in the void section in the middle!

“Could this be...”

Chen Chen took in a breath of cold air. He had seen enough marvel in his time and although this was only a mere holographic image, the otherworldliness of this laboratory he was looking at greatly stunned him.

As the camera pulled closer, it phased through the entrance of the levitating laboratory. The interior was also clad in bright gold, the only distinct difference was that it was filled with computers. There were even some extremely advanced devices that Chen Chen could not identify.

The camera continued to pull closer until it arrived at the center of the laboratory. It was then when Chen Chen saw a protruding black ma.s.s in the middle of a display section as if something had been ruthlessly carved out of it...

There was a flash after that and the video abruptly ended afterward. Chen Chen had returned to reality.

“Sir G.o.dfather, what you saw just now was footage of a laboratory sealed off by the military in an unmarked forest in the region of Yellowstone Park, North America.

Little X quickly elaborated, “The name of this laboratory is ‘Quantum Deity’...”
