Chapter 57 - She Had Always Thought That They Were Madly In Love

He remained single for many years just to get over her, but finally, he met his wife through a blind date. Though married, they were not very much in love and behaved more like life partners than lovers. Their first child also ended up having special needs.

"Jing, don't be silly! I've done a thorough background check on the guy!" The man on the phone was Ning Jing's cousin.

"Brother, he has an adopted sister who lives in J City with an established family. Also, she's connected with the Du family as well! I think she's here to help Qiao Tian; maybe they'll offer him some official duties with the government!" Ye Qiao's heart sank upon hearing the conversation.

"Jing, what are we going to explain to the Tang family? They've already sent us the betrothal gifts. I thought you already dated Mr. Tang quite a few times." Ye Qiao clenched her fists in a rage.

"Brother, keep it low. What if Qiao Tian overhears us?" Ning Jing sounded worried.

She had always thought that they were madly in love. To her dismay, Ning Jing turned out to be just another pretentious girl, and her poor brother had always been a back-up plan.

Her brother grew up in the countryside, but that did not stop him from making a name for himself. He was the chairman of the student council and was friends with many people from different backgrounds in society. He and his friends were the ones looking after the safety of their college and its surroundings.

Ning Jing must have been given the privilege of sanctuary by being around with him. He was also the one who fought for her family when there was a feud. He would have surely been killed on the streets if Lu Beixiao had not shown up in time.

Da Sha was an expert, not only in creating explosions but also in disarming bombs. He was stuck on top of a building, with his face bathed in sweat.

Fortunately, all 26 workers had been safely evacuated from the building. The members of Blood Wolf stood in a military confrontation with the criminals.

"Leader, you should leave with the boys! I'm afraid I can't do it!" Da Sha anxiously said, with sweat dripping down his forehead.

"Chen Erdan, I'll kick you to death if you say another word!" Lu Beixiao said fiercely. He was geared with a headset and a coverall and made a firm stand that neither he nor his teammates would leave Da Sha behind with the bomb, even though they had always made fun of him.

"Xiao, I have news! The open s.p.a.ce at the back of the building has been sealed. You may proceed with Plan B!" Ye Cheng talked to him through the headset.

Alerted, Lu Beixiao took a look at the countdown and saw that there were only 20 seconds left. He knew that Da Sha could not possibly disarm it in such a short time.

Hastily, he took off his headset and stripped off every other gear on his uniform. With unusually cautious steps, he wrapped the bomb in a piece of clothing and carried it away from Da Sha. "Stay low!"

With ten seconds left on the clock, he hurled the bomb forcefully towards the open s.p.a.ce.

Flames leaped into the sky in an instant, as the detonation was so ma.s.sive that it shook the entire ground. Lu Beixiao suffered from the impact of the bomb and lay resignedly on the ground.

Even after some time had pa.s.sed, he still lay unmoving. "Lu! Lu!" Da Sha ran to him in a blind panic.

Lu Beixiao did not move an inch, and Da Sha was terror-stricken. "Lu, you must not die! What am I going to do without you?"

His cries caught the attention of his teammates, but only Lao Cai came to check on him. As for the rest, they had to keep their eyes on the criminals, as the confrontation had reached a stalemate.

"Lu! Wake up!" Da Sha was not giving up.

"Chen Erdan! Can't you just let me play dead and rest for a minute? For heaven's sake!" Lu Beixiao stared at Da Sha with a cold, impa.s.sive face. Out of breath, he began to pant heavily. He was exhausted, so exhausted.. All he wanted to do was to have the day off just and take a nap with his girlfriend.
