Once they reached the door, the Big Chair with a high back leapt out from the hands of the four students. His four legs were spread out even more. He trod forward slowly with a strange but domineering gait.
However, the chair could not walk straight. He kept going off on a tangent, but it could always miraculously come back to his initial path.
The chair's four wooden legs were more flexible than human legs.
The two carved armrests made of mahogany were swaying gently, as though they were going to fall apart.
The Big Chair swayed unsteadily as he looked up at the parliament floor.
“Hey, isn't this the Red Egg? Long time no see. You are so free to come to visit my place.”
Everyone present, including Su Ye, was stupefied. How dare the Big Chair address the powerful Sage Archmage with such a nickname!
However, why did everyone present know who the Big Chair was referring to even though he didn't call out the other party's name?
'That's very mean of all of us,' Su Ye repented silently.
Su Ye secretly sized up Cromwell, who was sitting at the center of the parliament seats.
The Red Egg had turned redder… No. The master's face reddened as he smiled helplessly and said, “Do people from Plato Academy not trust my judgment? Or do you guys have too much confidence in this broken chair? Never mind. You can come on up.”
“You dare to call me a broken chair? I… Forget it. This is a serious occasion. I'll refrain from babbling…”
The Big Chair staggered forward, suddenly turning to look at Carlos and Su Ye. Finally, he faced Su Ye.
“You are the… Tiny Neck? Not bad.” After saying that, the Big Chair hopped and continued to make its way towards the parliament floor.
Su Ye rolled his eyes. What kind of nickname was that? Shouldn't it be used to address Basaro, who was almost strangled to death? However, if the Big Chair changed his nickname to the Little Rope or Little Belt… Forget it. The Tiny Neck sounded less awkward.
The Big Chair reached the upper middle floor and suddenly halted. He turned around and faced Niedern.
“Little Trickster, why didn't you greet me when you saw me? Have you forgotten your previous promise? Call me Master. Quick!”
After saying that, a scene that made everyone dumbfound appeared. The two armrests of the Big Chair were actually crossed over each other in the air above the seat. The chair was extremely similar to a person who had his arms crossed in front of his chest.
Niedern's face was ashen. He gritted his teeth and said, “Greetings, Master Throne.”
The Big Chair could not help but burst out laughing. His entire body swayed with a creaking sound, like an old chair that was constantly being shaken by a naughty child.
Su Ye found his teacher's nickname interesting. He had to say that although this Big Chair did not have eyes, his vision was keen.
“Good. Very good! Hahaha…”
With a cheerful laugh and the movement of a nimble warrior, the Big Chair suddenly leapt onto a table on the parliament floor. Then, he steadily jumped off the table and landed on the ground while kicking the other chairs away. He stood firmly next to Master Lawrence.
“Old Baldy, you're here too? I promise I won't talk nonsense today. After all, it's an arbitration. Alright, let's catch up after the meeting.”
After the Big Chair said that, he stood upright and the mouth on the back of the chair actually disappeared.
Everyone's eyes were focused on Lawrence's bare chin.
Lawrence's face was emotionless, like a statue.
Su Ye glanced at the Big Chair and made up his mind to stay away from this guy in the future. The Big Chair had nicknamed him 'Little Neck' this time. Next time, G.o.d knows what kind of weird nickname he would come up with.
Some mages sighed internally. The arbitration was supposed to be a serious occasion, but the Big Chair had ruined the solemn atmosphere. Many students were most likely holding in their laughter now. Perhaps some of them were having stomachaches from suppressing their laughter.
“Since there are no objections, the arbitration…”
Master Cromwell's voice came to an abrupt halt.
The entire scene seemed to be shrouded by a divine time freezing spell.
Su Ye and everyone else were dumbstruck to see that the Big Chair had somehow circled behind Cromwell and was gently stroking Cromwell's head with the armrest. He was stroking his head back and forth. It made people worry that Cromwell's remaining hair would be grounded off by the armrest.
The Big Chair's movement was as though he was wiping a freshly boiled red egg.
“This chair is amazing…” Su Ye muttered to himself.
This scene was hilarious, but none of the students dared to laugh.
They used all their strength to hold in their chortle.
Was this Big Chair crazy? Why would he pat a Sage Archmage's head in this sort of situation?
More importantly, large red lips resurfaced on the back of the chair and the mouth was grinning gleefully.
Cromwell's initially rosy face began to darken as he sat stiffly on his chair.
Lawrence raised his staff and removed the armrest of the Big Chair from Cromwell's head. He warned in a low voice, “If you dare to act recklessly again, I'll chase you out of the hall!”
The red lips of the Big Chair disappeared on the back of the chair and it obediently returned to its original position.
Cromwell took a deep breath and said, “That was an accident. If there is another accident, I'll exercise my privilege.”
He knocked on the floor heavily. Their surroundings changed drastically.
All the plants quickly withered and the b.u.t.terfly spirits turned into light dust and fell to the ground. Even the rattan chairs were slowly shrinking.
Those who did not have a proper seat before this hurriedly stood up again.
The atmosphere turned especially solemn.
Su Ye suddenly had a feeling that this was how a normal arbitration should be.
Then, Su Ye glanced at Niedern and the Big Chair, as though he had understood something.
Cromwell still appeared very amiable, but he was no longer all smiles.
He took a look at Su Ye and Carlos. Then, he slowly said, “First, I'd like to ask the plaintiff, Carlos, to tell the truth. Explain the process where you discovered the 'teaching as learning' technique, and what are your complaints.”
Carlos thanked Cromwell. He then proceeded to pa.s.sionately tell the audience how he discovered the impact of 'teaching as learning' a few years ago, how he occasionally taught other students, and how he collated his past experiences before graduation. He ended his speech by firmly urging the Congress of Magic to uphold justice and strip Su Ye of his qualification as a mage apprentice.
Many students were stirred by Carlos' words. They clenched their fists and glared at Su Ye.
This was a performance befitting of a drama major student, Su Ye thought to himself. Carlos must have practiced a lot for this day.
After Carlos finished speaking, Cromwell looked at Su Ye and said, “Su Ye, as the defendant, please state your case.”
Very few people were keenly aware of the differences in Cromwell's words. Cromwell asked Carlos to “tell the truth” while he asked Su Ye to “state his case.”
Although the differences appeared insignificant, his words had a tremendous impact on the audience, especially the neutral ones.
Su Ye immediately recognized the difference. He took a deep breath as he gently tapped his right thumb and index finger together. Then, he puffed out his chest and raised his head, staring straight ahead.
“Honorable Master Cromwell, Sage Archmages, Master Throne, and teachers…”
Su Ye began to narrate the journey of wise man Feynman with an opening that was ten times more elegant than Carlos'.
Even though Su Ye had already told most of the story in the council house yesterday, those who had heard it before were still very interested.
This was because Su Ye's story was filled with legends and was more interesting. Carlos' words were dry and without any details.
Only a few people noticed that when Su Ye mentioned “Master Throne,” the Big Chair swayed slightly.
Su Ye once again told the story of how he obtained Feynman's technique. He concluded, “Masters, please understand. I believe that all the wise masters here can tell that my Feynman technique is vastly different from Carlos”teaching as learning' technique.”
“Oh, why can't I tell the difference?” Cromwell said with a smile.
