Chapter 31 I’ve got this Ancestor’s back (2)
…
It was too sudden.
He didn’t know what kind of special ability this little human posing as his own offspring had. His movements were so obvious but Gu Ting found himself unexpectedly unable to avoid it.
Although there was no body temperature, it didn’t mean he had no sense of touch. On the contrary, he was actually more sensitive to temperature changes. Gu Ting’s body was faintly stiff, and his ink-colored pupils shrank slightly. For a moment, he inexplicably wanted to hold his breath.
But after all, he didn’t have any breath or heartbeat—Lu Huaiye seemed to realize this too. He pressed his lips tightly against his, exhaling slowly and intently, as if he wanted to give him all his breath.
Breath filled with the fragrance of fresh greenery was poured into his chest and lungs. The almost stubborn light in those eyes made Gu Ting’s mind tremble. His overly strong intentions were silently transmitted through his touch and some utterly vague, indistinguishable memories poured into his mind.
Gu Ting stared blankly at him. His chest suddenly ached.
He can’t let him be like this.
Even he didn’t know where this idea came from. Before Gu Ting returned to his senses, he already had the young man pinned down against the sofa, hand against the other’s shoulder and upper arm.
Lu Huaiye didn’t resist and let himself be pinned down firmly. The light in his raven-dark eyes was still dazzling. He was lightly gasping for breath, as if he hadn’t completely escaped from his suggestion.
Gu Ting averted his gaze, a rare anxious frown marring his face.
His suggestions could only elicit the desire the lies hidden in the bottom of the target’s heart. His original intention was only to test out the mental power of this little human who was posing as his offspring and to see, by the way, how much the other person truly knows. After all the questions are clarified, his plan was to give a simple suggestion and let the other go where they should.
The current incident made him suddenly wonder if it had been far too long since he used his power and so he had accidentally performed the hypnotism wrong.
…
The other party’s gaze s.h.i.+fted away and Lu Deng’s mind was suddenly shaken. He escaped from the half-real and half-fantasy illusion.
His ears were buzzing and he realized that the mechanical voice had been calling out in his mind for a long time.
Seeing that the system had enough garlic cloves to fill two whole s.p.a.ces, the corners of Lu Deng’s lips soundlessly pulled upwards. He placated the system that was about to go buy a silver cross from the small vault. He dropped his gaze and slowly adjusted his mood.
With the host’s comfort, the system finally recovered its calm. Suddenly remembering Gu Ting’s ident.i.ty, it was very anxious. “Isn’t a kiss too proactive for the host and the target’s first meeting? Do you need me to erase his memory? I heard that causing a person to faint from an electric shock would erase the memories for the period before they lose consciousness…”
Lu Deng smiled helplessly. “It’s okay, no need.”
It wasn’t just a kiss.
Gu Ting was alive.
Although he wasn’t breathing and he had no heartbeat, but he was still alive.
After being affected, his thinking was particularly sluggish. Lu Deng warmly declined the system’s thoughtful proposal and he looked at Gu Ting, who looked particularly anxious.
Before he could think of anything else, a cool hand was already stroking the side of his neck.
The hand was pale and slender and it looked elegant but it revealed an extremely powerful strength that could easily pulverize solid stone.
Lu Deng bared one of his weakest part without holding anything back but he didn’t feel scared. He merely raised his head to meet those deep inky pupils.
“Speak. I want to hear you speak.”
Gu Ting didn’t add any more strength to his hand. He merely covered the other’s throat and spoke softly, revealing inexplicable anxiety beneath his low voice.
He still remembered a little something.
Lu Deng’s heart gave a jump. In his eyes appeared faint distress. He took his hand and said, “I’m fine.”
He became agitated. A slightly choked sound even flashed in his voice.
Keenly sensing that slight strangeness, Gu Ting’s expression became all the more worried. Brows furrowed, he pondered for a moment, pale green light condensed in his palm and he fed a pill smelling of mint to his lips.
“Open your mouth.”
Lu Deng obediently opened his mouth and allowed the other to feed him the medicine. The cool and refres.h.i.+ng flavor flowed into his throat. However, his eyes felt even hotter.
In the first world, he had taken a breath for him in that cave and it ruined his throat. At that time, he had also taken this type of medicine. Although it didn’t provide a permanent cure, it still managed to alleviate some discomfort.
Gu Ting obviously shouldn’t know these things but he still kept these medicines for him.
He was never the only one remembering.
Seeing that Lu Huaiye had taken the medicine, the unwarranted anxiety in Gu Ting’s heart finally calmed down. His expression relaxed a bit and he held Lu Huaiyu’s jaw.
Looking at the little human with red-rimmed eyes, Gu Ting was worried that his manner just now had been too fierce. The pureblood ancestor’s tone became gentler, albeit somewhat choppy. He clumsily tried to coax the other. “It’s not poison. It’s good for your throat…”
“My voice is all better now. Everything’s fine.”
Lu Deng knew clearly that the other party probably only retained some data that was too profound and deep at the time. Lu Deng still raised his head, looked at him earnestly and gave him that rea.s.surance, enunciating each word clearly.
Hearing his voice still fluent and clear, Gu Ting’s lips raised slightly, his expression turned faintly gentle and he lightly ruffled his hair.
The gentle sensation stuck to his palm. It unexpectedly seemed to be able to relieve stress.
Unable to hold back, he rubbed his head a couple more times, Gu Ting retracted his thoughts, re-established the dignity of a vampiric elder and instructed him with a serious expression. “Kissing is not proper first meeting etiquette. You should not use it so indiscriminately in the future.”
The puckery sensation left Lu Deng’s eyes and his eyes curved. He barely managed to hold back the smile that threatened to trickle out and he nodding obediently.
Gu Ting coughed slightly and averted his eyes.
It’s was still raining outside so he couldn’t just send him away immediately.
The corners of his lips were pursed unnoticeably. Gu Ting got up, lessened his strength and patted his shoulder. “It’s getting late, I’ll take you to rest.”
The vampires of the new era didn’t sleep in coffins. He specially custom-ordered a fully automated temperature-controlled body-fitting ma.s.sage bed produced by modern technology. Although he had little need for sleep, he would often lie down on a whim.
Even if a human body was strengthened, it was still more sensitive and fragile than a vampire’s. The little guy had been caught in the rain and had been given a fright. He should take a good night’s rest.
Since Gu Ting didn’t need to rest, he saw no harm in letting him use the room.
Unable to tell if he was bewitched by the kiss, Gu Ting muttered irresolutely to himself all the way as he led Lu Deng to his room. He turned on the lights for him, briefly pointing out to him the location of the bathroom. Finally, he found a piece of unworn clothing to leave to him, before finally getting up and leaving.
After leaving, he did not immediately return to the study but flashed to stand outside the stable inside the villa.
The windproof lantern was swaying and Gu Ting leaned forward slightly amidst the drizzling rain and met the horse’s eyes.
After a while, the horse, used as a prop for his photos, suddenly raised its neck and let out a loud neigh. It broke free from the its reins and was all too happy to kicked at him and rush out into the rain.
…
Looks like there was nothing wrong with his hypnotism.
The pure-blooded ancestor had been on guard in case he was suddenly kissed by that horse. But since he hadn’t, the look in his eyes became even more pensive. Standing one-legged in the rain, looking in the direction where the steed had disappeared into the rainy night, he fell into inexplicable contemplation.
During tomorrow’s lesson, it will be necessary for him to emphasize the “no kissing other people at random” rule.
*
Lu Deng washed himself clean and put on the clothes that were two sizes too big. He took off his cosmetic contacts and tried to lie down on the bed.
The room was very quiet. The light was a warm pale yellow and the bed was comfortable. The body relaxed and sank into the bed. It was neither cold nor hot and his slightly tired body that had just traveled across worlds quickly received a comprehensive ma.s.sage.
Lu Deng rolled around on the bed and lay down comfortably for a while. Once his exhaustion was completely gone, he got up and got out of bed with the blanket around him.
The system was ready to go into sleep mode but was awakened by his actions. “Is the host planning to do something?”
Since his host’s ident.i.ty was a Special Service Agent, perhaps he was going to spend the night exploring the target person’s villa. The system immediately got moving and was ready to help him with surveillance but Lu Deng already shook his head. “Nothing official. Just standby.”
Vampires didn’t need sleep. Deliberately bringing him to the bedroom, maybe this was Gu Ting’s way of testing his true ident.i.ty.
It’s not because he can’t sleep without someone accompanying him. Lu Deng hid a yawn behind a hand. Rubbing his eyes, he found his slippers and without disturbing the system, went to look for the location of the mission target.
The door of the study was gently pushed open.
The edge of the old wooden door rubbed against the floor, and the hinge creaked slightly.
Gu Ting was absent-mindedly processing the photos he had taken during the day. He turned around and saw the head of the little human poking in from behind the door. His brows eased, “Can’t sleep?”
“I’m not sleepy.”
The first day still wasn’t over. Lu Deng insisted on keeping his current disguise as a vampire. He shook his head and blanket wrapped tightly around him, walked to his side.
Gu Ting raised his eyebrows slightly. He used his power to turn the single sofa he was leaning against into one with extra s.p.a.ce, silently giving him permission to come over and have a seat. He raised his hand and turned the screen slightly. “Can you use this?”
The technology of this world has developed unevenly because of the presence of supernatural powers. Due to the increasing spiritual power of human beings, electronic technology was no longer a necessity and the speed of its development had slowed down. Even now, it was still in the smart computer stage.
Lu Deng nestled beside him. After reading through an explanation in his head, he had a rough grasp of it and he nodded slightly.
Gu Ting took out a spare portable smart computer and was about to put it on for him but then he looked down and his eyes suddenly showed a faint smile.
The little guy was wearing his clothes and the sleeves had covered his entire hand. The neckline was so big, it was almost falling off. Wearing more casual clothes at home was fine, but he undoubtedly couldn’t wear something like this outside.
Looks like he will have to buy more clothes for him.
He had, for the most part, already completely forgotten his original intention of driving the other away once he had gotten the answer to his questions. While considering what styles would be suitable for Lu Huaiye, Gu Ting bent down and patiently rolled up the cuffs for him.
Although the young human’s skin was fair it was not like a vampire’s, pale to the point of blue iciness. He rolled up the cuffs, brus.h.i.+ng over his wrists, revealing the flexible and smooth lines of his forearm.
According to his long years of professional experience, such muscle lines were produced under long-term strength and pressure training. Although they were not bulging and conspicuous, they weren’t any more inferior compared to those with power-enhancing abilities.
It was not surprising that people from the Special Service Office would have that level of physical fitness.
Gu Ting cautiously stretched out his hand. He tried to grasp it and exerted a little pressure but he didn’t realize the strong force of resistance it revealed under stress.
Looking up along that arm, he met the soft and bright albeit a bit uncertain light in the raven-dark eyes. Gu Ting paused, the corners of his lips pursed silently. He let go and rolled up the cuff on the other side for him. He then put on the smart computer.
Even on the first day, he unexpectedly wasn’t even wearing the cosmetic contact lenses.
Although his reasons weren’t clear, this little human who made no diligent effort into keeping his disguise didn’t seem to know to be afraid or vigilant towards him.
He even kissed him.
His thigh that had been kicked by the horse still ached a bit. Until now, he still hasn’t figured out what exactly was the suggestion that he had sent at the time to elicit such a reaction. In the end, this pureblood ancestors could only attribute it to him not having used his power for so long and so it produced at unexpected deviation in its effect.
If only it could deviate again…
He pulled back his thoughts that were already straying beyond what was proper. Gu Ting restrained his mind and while adjusting the pictures, he explained to the other the photo retouching techniques he was used to.
He spoke one minute and was quiet the next as he explained. Lu Huaiye nestled beside him, holding onto the blanket, occasionally letting out an affirmative sound. Unexpectedly, the atmosphere wasn’t the slightest bit boring.
When he woke up, he was laying all alone in a coffin in the public cemetery. The moment his power awakened, he was forbidden from interacting with humans. The villa was so bare that he couldn’t even find a goblin in there. Except for occasional contact he had with humans for his work, this was the first time someone was accompanying him.
Gu Ting gradually got more in the mood and he spoke more earnestly. He was about to let him try to retouch the picture himself. When he asked a few question, he then realized that there was no response from the person beside him.
It couldn’t be that he had petrified him with his talking.
Gu Ting frowned and wanted to look at his situation. Before he could turn around, he suddenly felt something sink between his arms.
The body that was originally just leaning against him suddenly snuggled unguardedly against his chest. He instinctively stretched his arms to scoop him up and embraced him firmly.
It was warm.
The soft and warm sensation truly covered the s.p.a.ce between his arms. The human who insists on claiming to be his offspring was already sound asleep, blanket clutched around himself.
His delicate and pretty features smoothened out. Probably because the temperature in the room was set a bit too high, Lu Huaiye’s cheeks was flushed a healthy light pink. His breathing was light and gentle. He lay his head against the crook of his arm, sleeping so peacefully even the sky collapsing wouldn’t disturb him.
Gu Ting couldn’t help but raised his hand to touch the tip of his nose. Seeing that the little guy in his arms didn’t respond, he then gently poked his cheek. The corners of his lips unwittingly ticked up into a gentle curve.
And he said he wasn’t sleepy.
In fact, it wasn’t necessary for him to pretend to be a little vampire. Even if he weren’t his own offspring, he just so happened to lack an a.s.sistant who has studied art. And he was also in need of a gardener, so he he could just let him stay.
Yes, just let him stay.
It seemed that he had suddenly figured out something that he had been tangled about for a long time. His chest suddenly felt relieved and he felt completely satisfied. Gu Ting stretched out his arms and stiffly pulled the other in to lean against his chest as continued to absent-mindedly retouch the pictures.
Although he was staring intently at the screen, Gu Ting still couldn’t help using most of his attention to rubbing the little human’s soft short hair and lowering his head to try to see if he would have any new reactions in his sleep.
It was seriously affecting his work efficiency.
Most of the night had pa.s.sed and seeing that there were still 90% unfinished work left, Gu Ting bitterly did some deep reflection.
Before the ancient wall clock rang to mark the top of the hour at 2 o’clock in the morning, it was suddenly silenced by a strange force. Gu Ting breathed a sigh of relief and released the hand covering Lu Huaiye’s ears. He tucked the hair splayed on his cheek behind his ear. As he did so, his fingertips moved smoothly across his neck but then his movements suddenly paused.
He felt an unfamiliar pulsation.
The arteries under the fingertips were beating gently, and blood was surging under it.
There was a sweet and alluring fragrance, teasing the desire he had never attempted to release. His throat tightened slightly.
The Secret Service prohibits vampires from contacting humans and there was a reason why they must abide by it.
Human beings were the blood races’ food source and they were almost their only food source. No matter the situation, this was an irrefutable fact.
Gu Ting slowly stroked the arteries on his neck. A sharp light flashed in his mind but he immediately suppressed it. He took out a pure blood fizzy tablet from his side. He didn’t have enough time to drop it into a gla.s.s of water and he simply pressed directly under his tongue.
In order to protect the interests of the vampires, the Special Service Office had also developed a series of subst.i.tute blood products. They taste good, but provide little power. When they really needed power, most vampires still chose to find an altar and pray to obtain the gift of their ancestors’ power.
The altar was quite some distance away. If he needed to go, he would need to take a long-distance s.h.i.+p. He has always felt dizzy on that thing and he hadn’t gone to pray for a long time.
He’ll have to find time to go as soon as possible.
When they have less power, the hunger was more difficult to ignore, especially in the middle of the night when vampires were the most active.
Holding the soundly sleeping human, Gu Ting took a deep breath. He was about to continue working, but his empty stomach suddenly twitched and made a low rumbling sound.
…
Just a touch.
He wasn’t going to bite.
He drew an absolute bottom line for himself in his heart. Gu Ting lowered his head and pressed his lips tightly against the neck of the human in his arms, trying to touch it, gently rubbing against it.
The extremely alluring sweetness poured into his nose. It should have made him hungrier and hungrier, but the emptiness in his chest and abdomen seemed to have been comforted by such simple touches. The sudden strong appet.i.te also faded.
Turns out this was also effective.
Gu Ting was buried against the other’s neck and his eyes brightened.
Almost all of his elders had now been petrified. Except for some inheritance, he hadn’t actually received a lot of teachings from his elders in the clan and because his seniority was too high, others of his kind kept a respectful distance from him. In terms of understanding the blood race, the Special Service Office probably has a better understanding than he did.
Maybe the reason why the little guy came up and kissed him was because this was how vampires drew power now.
Finding himself a completely plausible explanation, Gu Ting finally knew the taste of marrow. Gu Ting simply set aside his work for the time being. He raised his hand and waved, bringing out his power. The sofa was flattened into a slightly larger single bed. On it, he set down the human being lying in his arms.
Despite being gently laid flat from his curled up position, Lu Huaiye was still sleeping soundly. He instinctively raised his arms and wound it around the other’s neck, leaning against him and rubbing gently.
Gu Ting was very satisfied with being snuggled up against. He took him in his arms and gently patted his back. After Lu Huaiye slowly relaxed, he finally leaned in cautiously and kissed him on the forehead again.
Inexplicably, his heart filled up a bit once again.
This was also definitely effective.
Although he hadn’t sensed any increase in strength, this was to be expected. The speed of gaining strength from eating was inherently slow. This was definitely a case of “many a little makes a mick”.
Gu Ting no longer concerned himself with it. He turned over and gathered Lu Huaiye under him. He bowed his head and kissed him contentedly. The corners of his lips ticked up higher and his lips curved up wider. His irises gradually became the color of mellow red wine.
The body in his arms suddenly stirred and the system woke up from standby.
