Chapter 866: Chapter 864-You Do You.
Third Person POV:
"Just what was that?"
Queen Elenara spoke, breaking the tense atmosphere, the mature-looking, beautiful dwarven
queen going forth to rub her hands, the gooseb.u.mps she felt slowly calming down. The situation was something she had never felt before-the pure, uncontrolled youthful will, unwilling to bend and break-it rattled her.
She could feel her heart beating faster, her blood pumping through her veins. She felt as if she had gotten younger, to the time she used to face the world without any fear in her-the time of the young when she felt the world was hers to take-a situation from the past. It was such a pure will that she felt as if she had fallen into the past.
"This kid has awakened his will at such a young age."
King Tharvin muttered with a frown on his face. For a moment, a faint trace of killing intent pa.s.sed through his eyes as he looked at Austin, lying down in the embrace of his sister Valdris, she held him a bit too gently.
"That means for him to enter the range of an Imperial, all he will need is a law willing to be his."
Prince Orik muttered with a stunned expression on his face, it being laced with a hint of jealousy of what lay ahead as Orik let go of his war hammer that he, for a moment, held tighter than he ever did in his life.
'I felt fear?'
Orik thought to himself as he looked at the young brat in front of him, his mind running through several different possibilities as King Tharvin spoke.
"This kid is a bit too dangerous..."
His words contained a certain hidden wisdom as he spoke, to which Orik asked,
"Because he learned will at such a young age?"
"No, it's because of the type of will he has learned."
His words made Queen Elenara frown for a moment as she asked,
"What of it?"
To this, after a moment of thought, Tharvin spoke.
"It's the will to never be defeated, to never fall, and to never be broken. Wills like that make the strongest; they make monsters..."
As he spoke of this, his gaze focused deeply on his sister Valdris, still holding onto the young man as Elenara spoke.
"But isn't that better for us? He seems to be quite the straightforward and strong young man, and if he is so talented, then it won't be an issue for him to be with Nathalia."
Her words made both the father and son frown wider, their protective instincts flaring up a bit, but the king, in the end, slowly shook his head.
"And that is the problem. No matter what he did, I wasn't going to let him be near young Nathy. I was hoping to wow him with this call, give him an appropriate type of gift, and then slowly ask him to push Nathalia away."
His words carried deeper meaning as Orik asked with a slight grin,
"Why is that?"
To this, Tharvin didn't reply. He just looked towards his sister-the one who has always been better than him in everything in his life and one whom he deeply respects and looks after-his eyes meeting hers as he asked,
"You seem to care a bit about him. May I ask why?"
To his question, Valdris finally shook herself out of her thoughts, her gaze seemingly trying to keep its cool as she replied,
"Partly because of my daughter and another because maybe he can be of some use."
Her words made Tharvin frown a bit as he asked,
"Is he that important?"
To which Valdris, with a lamentful expression, spoke.
"I might have just saved us from deep troubles. The war council would have raised a lot of trouble if he was too deeply hurt."
Her words made all of the other three frown as Tharvin asked,
"Is he really that important?"
To his words, Valdris nodded her head as she replied,
"He is. He is very important to a plan that is already in motion. They take deep care of him, and if I didn't act when I did, the elders would have made a whole lot of trouble."
Her words made the atmosphere a bit darker as Tharvin asked,
"Do you think he is worthy to stand near Nathalia, or more importantly, do you think he will sit back as the war targets him and burns away everything he will come to care for?"
His questions made Valdris thoughtful as she replied,
"The plan was for him to accept the side of the war council; then, what he loves will be protected."
Her words made Tharvin chuckle, a bit of a mocking sneer in his eyes as he spoke.
"After seeing that will, do you think he will break?"
The question hung in the air, crisp and bright for all to see. They all knew the answer directly -Austin wasn't going to break, nor was he going to bend to the will of another.
"If he does break, then with it will break all of his talents and his future. I do not wish for my daughter to be married to someone like that, nor do I wish her to be with a puppet."
His words were firm and powerful, and it was the last of it, to which Elenara shook her head as she spoke.
"Do you think Nathalia will back down? Especially when she seems to be finally interested in a man and isn't afraid of him?"
Her words made both the duo of father and son wince a bit, but the matter had been settled. Tharvin knew much more than the others did. While Austin's life seemed blessed and better for the future, the coming situation painted a dark picture. He might be raised as a hero, but he would be nothing more than a slave to the hands of the war council, and Tharvin doesn't want that for his daughter at all.
"The future is never fixed, Tharvin. There might always be changes."
Valdris finally spoke, making the man think, his eyes fixing on the young man who had made him almost take a step back in his life. He knew what legends and heroes could do to this world and how important it would be if Austin did manage to get out of the clutches around him. If he breaks past the despair that awaits him, then he will be stronger and more powerful
than ever.
The world is filled with information on such changes, details of how things begin to change from a single individual taking the lead, and legends of such changes etched deep into the morals of history and even in the dwarven past. Tharvin closed his eyes for a moment, his heart trembling as he thought of the smile of his daughter.
A second later, he opened his eyes as he looked at his older sister, a small smile coming to his
face as he asked,
"What do you propose we do?"
The whole situation has now changed, the plans and ideas he had in his mind twisted away. That means changes have to be made to the situation itself.
"Let's keep him safe for now and play both sides,"
Valdris spoke, her words intending to hide just how much of her own intentions and selfish desires were mixed into it, her words making Tharvin thoughtful, after which he shrugged his
shoulders as he replied,
"Do what you will, I trust your judgment."
His words made Valdris nod her head. She turned to look at the pained face of Austin as he lay unconscious in her arms, her mind still reeling from the words he had muttered into her ears. Her heart felt as if it was being squeezed together, her blood pumping in ways she had long forgotten about, and her heart, which lay crystal cold, was wavering before this young man in
her arms.
'What is happening to me?'
With that thought, biting her lips, Valdris spoke out.
"I will take care of him. Let's settle him down a bit, get him better on our side before we take
any further action."
"Okay," Tharvin replied, after which Valdris floated Austin into the air, holding him aloft as the door to the room opened up. She walked out with Austin close to her, heading to heal him.
"Do you think it's wise leaving that young man like that?"
Elenara asked in a slightly worried voice as she held her darker emotions in her heart. To this, Tharvin simply shook his head and replied.
"It will be alright. Valdris knows what she is doing. I trust her in this."
'Why do you trust her so much after everything I did to keep the peace around her? Why always give
her more power than me?'
Elenara thought with a dark heart. Her rivalry with Valdris had begun long ago, but from a
certain point onward, she was always the losing one, the one always ending up lost. Elenara tightly held her hands together, keeping a smile on her face as she nodded at her husband, the king, while the prince lay in deeper thoughts.
