1396  Cure For Famine

Diana opened her eyes slowly, regaining consciousness in the unfamiliar house. Branches and leaves covered the ceiling in front of her as she rose. She found herself in a silk bed inside a home that looked like the insides of a tree. "Arthur?" muttered the princess as she rubbed her eyes and looked around, but she found that there was no one. As she rose from the bed, she saw that the sun was rising from the window. The house was made entirely of wood, gla.s.s, and leaves. The chairs and tables were tree trunks of different sizes, and the doors were just giant leaves that she could push aside and enter. As she looked through the house, she found Arthur sitting inside what looked like a living room. Diana paused before she walked any further inside. Arthur was sitting cross-legged on the tree trunk as wisps of wrathful souls danced around him. Each of them cried of regrets, but they turned golden the moment that they entered Arthur's body. The process looked sacred, and Diana did not wish to disturb him. She took a seat far from him and admired her soon-to-be husband. He seemed aware of her arrival, but the souls of Janea needed to be a.s.sembled into his kingdom of wrath. The sun separated from the horizon while she waited for him. Arthur opened his eyes at long last, revealing two bright suns for eyes. His golden eyes never failed to mesmerize her and leave her a little breathless. "Do you like what you see?" Arthur asked as he turned toward her. "I do," replied Diana with a grin. "How long have I been asleep?" "A few hours. Most people would need time to digest spiritual wine," Arthur said with a smile as he rose, floating to land next to her. "You have more tolerance than most." "I have enough spiritual energy to process it," Diana said as she rose, sliding a hand over his chest. "But not as much as you do. Yours is just monstrous." "You flatter me," Arthur said with a smile. "The elves are still asleep. We have some time to have fun," Arthur pulled her closer and stole a kiss from her lips. "It has been a while." "You read my mind," Diana grinned as she kissed him again. The two of them were soon intertwined in a pa.s.sionate embrace, stealing each other's breaths and sealing their mouths. Their morning was a little steamy, but it refreshed their minds. As the two of them were lying skin-to-skin in the bedroom, they heard some commotion outside. Arthur and Diana wore their clothes and left their new home to find a group of elves gathered in front of the gates. As they made their way through the crowd, they found Malrik, Tiara, and a few others surrounding someone screaming. "You have to save them! There is still time!" shouted a young woman as she clung to Malrik. "There is still hope…" The two approached them, only to stop walking in shock. The young elf wore light armor, but half of her body had withered. It looked like water and warmth had disappeared from half of her body, and it was spreading fast. "What happened here?" asked Arthur as he approached, making the crowd make room for him. Malrik turned to him with a heavy face. "Another victim of the mutant monsters," Malrik said with a frown. "Famine has devoured her vitality, and it's eating away what remains." "You are Arthur Netherborne, right?" the woman turned toward Arthur with tears in her eyes. "I heard that you are coming. People claim that you are the strongest man in the world. I'm done for, but please," she began crying, "save my friends." "You are a courageous warrior," Arthur said with a smile. "And Janea cannot afford to lose you." Arthur then raised his hand, letting mana flow from his hand. Black lightning crackled in his other hand, and he mixed the two before infusing them into the woman's withered body. The golden mana revitalized the body and destroyed famine, while the black lightning canceled any reactions that would harm the woman. The crowd gasped as they saw the withered arms heal and flesh return. Once the process was done, Arthur rose with a smile while helping the young woman stand again. Diana could feel pride swell inside her heart. "There you go, as good as new," Arthur said with a smile. The woman was stunned speechless, while the crowd burst into cheers. Diana could see Arthur was confused as he saw most of them look at him in shock and grat.i.tude. "I'm sorry to ask this after what happened yesterday, but can you heal the rest of our soldiers?" asked Malrik as he stepped from the side. "We have twenty elves who were condemned to die because we had no cure for famine." "Please wait, leader," the woman interjected. "My friends are still out there, fighting against mutant monsters. We need him to help us save them." Malrik looked like he was in a pinch as he paused. Diana could see him conflicted between saving the living and curing the ill. Before the dark elf was forced to make a decision that would haunt him, Diana stepped forward. "I will save them, while Arthur cures those touched by famine," Diana said with a smile. "I may not be as powerful as my beloved, but I fought against many creatures touched by the nameless." "Are you sure, Miss Diana?" asked Malrik with surprise and turned toward Arthur to see his reaction. Arthur looked a little worried, but Diana pinched his side. He gave her a soft smile and nodded. "Be safe out there," he said. "She will be a bigger a.s.set than I can ever be. Her ice can cure spiritual wounds, and her fire can damage the nameless in ways that it wouldn't expect." "If that's the case, then we will rely on you, Miss Diana," Malrik said with a smile as he looked at her. "Let's go and rescue my people."
