Chapter 1407 Soulbinds

The Infra-Layer of the Spirits Realm was similar to what Arthur had encountered before but could not be any more different. The roaming spirits were a common sight, but the world had more substance than it once did.

"Does that mean the Spirits Realm used to be different?" asked Tiara, who floated above him, scouting ahead for him while he trudged through the winding mountain paths.

"I guess the fusion of the two worlds had a tremendous effect on the Spirits Realm," Arthur explained. "The portion of it that was accessible to Alka was an incomplete manifestation of the realm."

"That makes no sense to me."

"Me neither, but I'm just making conversation," Arthur said with a shrug as he threw a chain to attach himself to the mountain. "Let's just jump down."

Tiara was surprised as she saw Arthur rush to jump down from the edge of the mountain. The chain acted as his rope as he lowered himself through the mountain but was still nowhere near the valley.

Arthur was still lowering himself when he felt the chain in his hand swing. The two of them looked upward to see that some kind of spirit animal was flapping its wings next to the chain. It looked confused as it attempted to pluck the chain from the mountain.

"I guess the excess spiritual energy is attracting the lesser spirits," Tiara said while floating in the air. "Do you want me to handle it?"

"Hurting spirits would just make the Spirits Sovereign upset. These nomad spirits would not harm us unless we harm them," Arthur said as he jumped down to land on a lower mountain path. "I'll just use my d.a.m.n foot."

Tiara snickered to herself as she floated after Arthur, enjoying her ability. Arthur walked for several miles before finding something in the distance. Beside the mountain was a valley and a river that flowed upstream.

"Is that a village?" asked Tiara in confusion. "How can there be a village inside the Spirits Realm?"

"I doubt a village is the strangest thing to find in a mystical realm," Arthur said with a chuckle. "Let's see if we can find anyone to ask about a dark elf."

As they approached the village, they began seeing more spirits roaming around. However, they were also surprised to see humanoid figures alongside these spirits, fighting against unknown creatures that seemed to be touched with madness.

Arthur and Tiara reached the village gate before they were stopped by a fat giant hamster. It was a little taller than Arthur as it blocked his path, wearing armor that told Arthur this was a guard of the village.

"Welcome to the Dew Village! Please show me your Soulbinds!" said the giant hamster as his fluffy cheeks moved. He reached out a furry hand to tell Arthur and Tiara that they needed to hand him something.

"Our what?" asked Arthur in confusion. "We just got here."

"A seeker without a Soulbind?" the hamster said in confusion as its eyes bulged at Arthur and Tiara. "Lies are forbidden inside the Spirits Realm!"

"We are not lying," said Arthur and Tiara. "We entered this world and found ourselves atop the clouds, right above that mountain over there."

"Is this your first time inside the Spirits Realm?" asked the hamster in confusion as he took out a small golden ring from within his armor and looked at Arthur and Tiara through it. "It seems you truly have no Soulbinds."

"What are those?" Arthur asked.

"Soulbinds are what make you a seeker! They allow seekers to increase their spiritual energy and grow stronger inside the Spirits Realm! Furthermore, they anchor them to our world."

"What does it look like?" asked Tiara as she descended from the sky, staring at the hamster with a smile. Arthur knew that she thought the hamster spirit looked cute in its armor.

"Soulbinds have varying forms, depending on the attributes that you have. They are given by the Gatekeeper to seekers when they first arrive in our realm," the spirit said with a pondering expression. "If you are telling the truth… you had a faulty entry to the realm!"

"Is that bad?" asked Arthur.

"Just strange! You can only obtain a Soulbind from the Gatekeeper. If you don't receive one, you cannot grow your Spiritual Essences!"

Tiara and Arthur shared a glance, both not knowing what was happening. Arthur was the most confused as he didn't have something like that the last time he came here.

"How long have these Soulbinds been around?" asked Arthur.

"As long as I can remember!" said the hamster. "In any case… I cannot allow your entry without the Soulbinds!"

"We just have a few questions," said Tiara to appease the hamster. "Can you let us inside just this once?"

"No can do! I must examine your Soulbinds to make sure you haven't committed any crimes!" the hamster said with a shake of his head.

"Doesn't our lack of these Soulbinds tell you that we aren't any criminals?" asked Arthur with a tilt of his head. "If you have no reports that two seekers without a Soulbind committed a crime, you have no reason to turn us away."

"…too complicated! I prefer to refuse your entry to this village!"

Arthur sighed at the unreasonable spirit but understood that it wanted to be rather safe than sorry. As they were talking, a few seekers came back with their Spirits, and the hamster examined them. They managed to see what Soulbinds are.

The hamster didn't lie, as each Soulbind was different than the others. Most of them looked like crawling tattoos, glowing threads, or cores within their humanoid ethereal figures. After the hamster looked at them through the same golden ring, he allowed them inside.

"There is one person you can seek to solve this problem for you," said the hamster after seeing that Arthur and Tiara were still waiting. "Go toward that green mountain and seek the spirit living on the top. It's well-known for its wisdom!"

"And how would that help us?" asked Arthur with a sigh.

"You can understand how to obtain your Soulbinds or whatever knowledge you want! Be careful… that spirit requires a tremendous amount of spiritual energy!"

"I have no shortage of that," Arthur said with a grin. "Let's go, Tiara."
