Chapter 1278: Eighth-grade True Devil
A chaotic fight erupted in the middle of the Golden Stone Valley. Elite fighters from various powers had gathered. Fearsome waves of resonant power pulsated out of them and blew the heavy golden water aside, as if an air bubble had formed in this region.
Whether it was Li Jinpan and Ox Biaobiao from the Bloodline of Heavenly Emperor Li, Zhao Jiao from the Bloodline of Heavenly Emperor Zhao, or Guanhu from the Golden Stone Alliance, their eyes were all locked onto the Golden Stone Spirit Clam King. They had sealed up all the escape routes for the Spirit Clam King. At the same time, they continued firing attacks at each other, trying to prevent them from acquiring the Spirit Clam King.
Towering Duke Bergfrieds rose up one after another.
The others watched in silence from the side. No one dared to step any closer, as this had turned into a battlefield for upper-grade Dukes.
The aura emanating from the Duke Bergfrieds felt so monstrous that anyone below the Fourth Duke Stage would be crippled immediately if they got caught up in the aftershocks.
At this point, Li Luo and Jiang Qing'e had also stopped their attacks. They could only watch on as these elite fighters brawled it out among themselves.
"Senior Hongyou, I've really underestimated how attractive you are..." Li Luo said humbly. If he knew Li Hongyou would have been so alluring to the Spirit Clams, he would have found a spot that was sequestered away and carried out this plan in secret.
Li Hongyou's cold face revealed a smile when she heard this. "I'll take that as a compliment."
Jiang Qing'e understood where Li Luo was coming from. She told him, "The commotion caused by the appearance of the Spirit Clam King is too great to go unnoticed. There are also too many eyes watching every inch of this valley. No matter where you hide, this was bound to happen at some point. Luckily, it seems like we still stand a chance to obtain it."
The situation had devolved into utter chaos. With two upper-grade Dukes, Li Jinpan and Ox Biaobiao, they stood a fair chance at acquiring the Spirit Clam King.
Li Luo nodded in agreement. He could only pin all his hopes on the two of them right now. After all, the Sovereign Pearl was very important to him. It could very well be the crucial factor in whether he could evolve his Thunder Dragon resonance into a Heavenly Dragon resonance successfully.
As they talked, the resonant power shockwaves were becoming more intense. The Spirit Clam King was starting to feel uneasy from the strikes of the upper-grade Dukes as well. It waved its golden tentacle and turned it into thousands of streams of brilliant, golden light, neutralizing the endless attacks flying at it from across the battlefield.
However, this Spirit Clam King was only at the level of a fifth-grade Duke. It began to lose out in this clash and its golden tentacle shattered into pieces. Ultimately, it was absolutely frightened and attempted to escape.
It summoned up yet another golden tentacle and punched fiercely towards the wall of the Golden Stone Valley. This wall was now covered by the resonant power of the upper-grade Dukes. If it wanted to fuse back into the wall and sneak away, it would need to break this layer of resonant power apart first.
However, the upper-grade Dukes from the different sides had closed in on it by now. Zhao Jiao took the lead and stared at the gigantic Spirit Clam King greedily. He bent two of his fingers and flicked out forcefully.
“Golden Thunder Finger!”
Golden thunder exploded in the air, smiting the target with the force of a devastating lightning strike. It struck the sh.e.l.l of the Spirit Clam King directly. Although its sh.e.l.l was known to be harder than steel, it was feeble in the eyes of a seventh-grade Duke.
Bang!
A loud ring resounded in the surroundings. Cracks appeared all over the sh.e.l.l of the Spirit Clam King, revealing its flesh as well as an extremely bright glow coming from its core. The brilliant light was over a thousand feet long. The Sovereign Pearl!
Everyone in the area stopped breathing for an instant as they were enchanted by the dazzling light.
"The Sovereign Pearl is mine!" Zhao Jiao exclaimed in delight. Immense resonant power gushed out of his body and transformed into a Giant Horned Thunder Shark. He rode on the back of the shark and dashed towards the Spirit Clam King directly.
At the same time, all the other fighters from the Bloodline of Heavenly Emperor Zhao had fired off attacks towards Li Jinpan and Guanhu in an attempt to stop them.
Li Jinpan took a firm step forward and blocked off all their attacks. Using this chance, Ox Biaobiao dashed forward.
Zhao Jiao and Ox Biaobiao were so fast that they were like two beams of light. Everyone watched without batting an eyelid as the duo barreled towards the Spirit Clam King.
In the short span of a few breaths, they were both within reach of it.
The two of them stared at the brilliant light bursting out of the clam flesh. They couldn't wait to s.n.a.t.c.h it for themselves.
However, a shout suddenly came from the back. "Uncle Biao, be careful!"
His eyes turned serious as soon as he heard the warning from Jiang Qing'e.
It was a split second of hesitation, but he decided to trust Jiang Qing'e in the end. He quickly pulled his hand back from the Sovereign Pearl.
With that small delay, Zhao Jiao was able to reach the ice-cold flesh of the clam first. He was overjoyed. He was about to pull the Sovereign Pearl out of its fles.h.!.+
However, his joy came to an abrupt end.
The flesh of the clam wriggled and a white tongue shot out of it like a snake. It quickly wrapped around the wrist of Zhao Jiao.
Pitch-black corruption dripped from the tongue. As soon as it came into contact with Zhao Jiao's wrist, it corroded his muscles and flesh like some kind of poisonous substance.
“Argh!”
Zhao Jiao let out a shrill cry. The seven Duke Bergfrieds above his head roared into life and immense resonant power burst out. He tried to pull his wrist away, but it was anch.o.r.ed there like a rock thrown into the deep sea.
The terrifying corruption continued to spread. Seeing this, a vicious light flashed across Zhao Jiao's eyes, then he hacked down and amputated his arm. He didn't have time to staunch the bleeding, so he retreated in a pathetic state. This sudden development brought the battlefield to a standstill for a moment.
Everyone looked at the Spirit Clam King in shock. In the center of its flesh, an ink-black color began to spread out. Soon, its flesh was fully dyed black.
A small mouth filled with sharp fangs opened up in the clam's flesh. The mouth began to move, chewing on Zhao Jiao's severed arm before swallowing it up.
Everyone felt a chill run down their spine as they watched the gruesome scene.
Ox Biaobiao broke out in cold sweat. Clearly, an Other had been born in the Spirit Clam King. Moreover, it appeared to be extremely strong as well.
It was fortunate that he had heeded Jiang Qing'e's earlier warning. Otherwise, he would have ended up with the same fate as Zhao Jiao.
Oddly enough, the sudden appearance of this Other seemed to have brought order onto the battlefield. Everyone watched warily, seeing how things would develop.
Its flesh began to wriggle before everyone's eyes. At the next moment, its flesh split apart and a figure slowly rose up.
The figure resembled a girl wearing a tulle, with an extremely alluring figure and tempting curves. Although her skin was pale and cold, it gave it a unique sort of charm.
Her facial expressions and laugh were so seductive that they were akin to the whisperings of the devil.
Only the "hair" on her head was different from what one would expect from humans. It was instead a chain of beads, and each bead resembled the Spirit Pearls, except they were pitch-black. As the dark energy revolved within them, pained and twisted faces could be spotted on the surface of the beads.
She shook her head lightly and the countless beads knocked against each other. However, the sound that came out was not a light clinking of beads knocking against each other, but an endless cacophony of frightful cries and agonized screams.
The faces of Li Jinpan, Zhao Jiao, Guanhu, and the other Dukes turned solemn immediately.
They could tell from the corruption emanating from this Other...
That it was an eighth-grade True Devil!
