“I’m fine,” he quickly replied. “Why are you here?”

“I heard that Yao Tang had come over. Have you happened to see her?”

As soon as these words were said, Princ.i.p.al Kong’s heart sped in his chest and beads of sweat trickled down his forehead. While he appeared nervous, his face didn’t show an ounce of emotion.

Director Guan didn’t say anything.

“That’s funny. Why don’t you take a seat?” Princ.i.p.al Kong forced a smile.

They sat there until noon, talking about anything under the sun.

Yao Tang didn’t go back to the cla.s.sroom until she had received Princ.i.p.al Kong’s confirmation that he had already left.
