IP Chapter 76.1
Incurable Pain | Chapter 76.1
Bai Xunyin left the French windows on the second floor of the winery, intending to go to the hall to find Yu Luoyin.
However, when pa.s.sing by a hidden door, she encountered an unexpected visitor. Without any defense, her arm was firmly grasped by a strong and slender hand.
Before Bai Xunyin could react, she was pulled into the darkness. Suddenly, everything turned black in front of her as the ‘unexpected guest’ covered her mouth from behind.
Before she could panic, Bai Xunyin smelled the familiar scent of fresh mint.
In an instant, all the tension and anxiety melted away, and she allowed herself to lean against the person behind her, choosing not to speak.
“Tsk.”
Yu Luoyin’s voice was low, sounding somewhat regretful.
“Why aren’t you afraid?”
Bai Xunyin blinked, and her soft lips brushed against his hand as she spoke.
“I know it’s you.”
Yu Luoyin didn’t ask how she knew, nor did he jest as he usually did. Instead, he wrapped his arms around the young girl’s slender waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.
Their breathing intertwined in the silence, and Bai Xunyin keenly sensed something heavy weighing on him.
He seemed to… have something on his mind.
Furrowing her brows slightly, Bai Xunyin tentatively asked, “Feeling unhappy?”
“Happy, yet not.”
Yu Luoyin sighed softly, his clear voice containing a hint of restraint, as if suppressing something. However, beneath that restraint, there was an almost seductive sense of impending eruption, like a volcano on the verge of eruption.
“Baby, I’m glad you stood up for me, but six years ago… what exactly did my mom say to you?”
Bai Xunyin was slightly taken aback. So, Yu Luoyin had overheard her conversation with Gu Yan earlier.
No wonder he seemed so out of sorts, clinging to her like a child—though he often acted spoiled around her.
Though she had promised Gu Yan not to reveal the past to Yu Luoyin, now that he knew, it changed things.
“It’s really nothing.” Bai Xunyin sighed softly.
“It was just that night at the hospital, your mother came to see you and happened to run into me.”
Running into her, covered in blood on her school uniform, looking disheveled, ultimately the cause of her son’s hospitalization.
Yu Luoyin imagined the awkward situation Bai Xunyin must have been in at that moment and closed his eyes.
“Director Gu knows about us, but she didn’t say anything excessive. She just hoped I would leave you.”
Bai Xunyin’s long eyelashes drooped slightly. In the darkness, neither of them could see each other’s expressions, only the intertwining of their breaths.
“I can understand her thoughts. She has always been strict with you, unable to tolerate teenage romance, especially since I made things so difficult for you.”
Bai Xunyin couldn’t help but laugh.
“Of course, she would think I’m a troublemaker.”
Yu Luoyin’s hand around her waist tightened involuntarily.
“But Director Gu didn’t say anything.”
Bai Xunyin comforted him with a pat, her voice sounding like she was coaxing a child.
“Yu Luoyin, it’s my fault. I was the one who told her I would leave you. Don’t be angry, okay?”
“No, I’m not angry.”
Yu Luoyin’s mind was still reeling from what he had overheard while looking for Bai Xunyin earlier. The words he heard, unintentionally, hiding in the shadows, were enough to shatter his psychological defenses.
He was too concerned about Bai Xunyin to even consider being angry.
“No, I mean, don’t be angry with your mom.” Bai Xunyin’s voice was light but firm.
“I’m not lying to you. She really didn’t say anything. I was a bit angry after talking to her just now, not because of what happened six years ago, but because… because…”
She struggled to continue, but Yu Luoyin calmly picked up where she left off.
“Because of the psychologist, right?”
Bai Xunyin bit her lip, silent.
But this was also a tacit admission.
“Silly girl.”
Yu Luoyin chuckled softly and hugged her, lifting her up in an attempt to comfort her with kisses.
He had gotten used to her spoiled behavior, but occasionally he couldn’t help but find it amusing.
Suppressing her laughter, Bai Xunyin covered his lips to stop him from kissing and asked seriously, “So, are you still angry with your mom?”
Yu Luoyin’s body stiffened.
“I won’t ask you to be a saint.”
Bai Xunyin hopped off him, leaning her forehead against his chest, her words entering his heart one by one.
“But Director Gu wasn’t wrong about the conversation six years ago. It’s related to me, so I had to explain. As for the rest… I won’t stop you from being angry.”
Yu Luoyin’s stiff body gradually relaxed, and in the darkness, his eyes, obscured and uncertain, couldn’t be easily read.
In fact, he could also be fl.u.s.tered and at a loss.
“Take some time to talk to Director Gu. Don’t keep everything inside.”
Bai Xunyin paused for a moment, tiptoed, and kissed him lightly on the jaw.
“Be good.”
If Yu Luoyin could use one-tenth of the skill he used to act pitiful and spoiled in front of her with Gu Yan and Yu Yuan, perhaps their relations.h.i.+p wouldn’t be so strained.
In the darkness, Yu Luoyin silently hugged her. After a while, he gave an imperceptible nod.
Whether he absorbed Bai Xunyin’s sincere and persuasive words or finally compromised with himself was unclear.
One evening after work, Yu Luoyin drove back to the luxurious mansion of the Yu family.
He rarely liked to come back, except on fixed dates or very occasionally on holidays.
Yu Luoyin hadn’t taken a close look at his ‘home’ for a long time. It now appeared deserted and desolate.
The housekeeper had been with them for many years, almost like family, but she wasn’t a real relative.
Furrowing his exquisite eyebrows, Yu Luoyin pursed his lips and walked in.
He had the pa.s.scode, so he didn’t need to ring the doorbell. Stepping lightly inside, the house was dimly lit as the sun had not yet set. The living room was empty except for a figure sitting there in the semi-darkness.
It was Yu Yuan. He looked up when he heard someone enter, and upon seeing Yu Luoyin, a hint of surprise flickered across his mature and handsome face.
“Luoyin? You’re back.”
Yu Yuan instinctively glanced at the clock on the wall.
“Isn’t today the 18th?”
In the past, Yu Luoyin only came back on the 18th of each month or extremely rarely, usually only on holidays.
“Not the 18th.”
Yu Luoyin shrugged casually, his hands in his pockets.
“Can’t I come back anytime?”
“What are you saying? This is your home…”
