Chapter 142: Are You Trying to Eat Me?

The outside of the pit was charred black. Those who were afraid of heights would feel dizzy when they stood on the top edge of the pit. This pit was deeper than they had imagined. It was hard for them to imagine how people would survive if they fell into such a pit.
“Bring me a hemp rope.”
Xiao Jin said to Jiang Yang, who was behind him.
Jiang Yang quickly went off and brought a bundle of hemp rope back.
“Master, let me go down.”
Xiao Jin shook his head and took the hemp rope from Jiang Yang’s hand. He tied one end of the rope to his waist and let Jiang Yang hold the other end. Then, he slowly climbed down.
The big fire had just been put out, and the temperature inside the pit was even hotter than above.
After Xiao Jin reached the bottom, he had someone throw a shovel down. He took the shovel and started digging in the pit.
Number One and the others also rushed over and went down to dig the pit as well.
When they were digging, they also found a lot of broken wood.
“Why is there so much wood in this pit?”
Soon, they dug up the corpses buried underneath.
The rest of the people came to the edge of the pit and pulled the bodies up.
Xiao Jin frowned as he looked at the corpses that had been dug out, and his expression became more glum. However, they still couldn’t find Su Ying even as they dug deeper and deeper.
Xiao Jin asked Jiang Yang to pull him out of the pit. For some reason, he had a feeling that Su Ying wasn’t here!
“You guys continue to dig here. I’ll look elsewhere.”
Xiao Jin’s dark eyes quickly swept across the mountain slope. Then he walked in another direction to search.
The people of the Azure Dragon Base at the bottom of the slope gave a gleeful sneer as they watched the fire on the slope being extinguished gradually.
“Commander, the people of the Tiger Base have been trying to put out the fire for the past two days.”
Yu Tong’s face revealed a trace of a sinister smile. “Very good. Now, pa.s.s down my orders immediately. Have everyone gather their men and charge into the Tiger Base to take back all our food!”
“Yes, Sir.”
Xiao Jin climbed over the slope and came to the back of the slope. Just as he was about to walk forward, he heard a commotion and an impatient voice. “Why did they get so many people? Are they done?”
Upon hearing this voice, Xiao Jin froze on the spot as if he had been struck by lightning. He quickly regained his senses and rushed toward the source of the sound.
When he got closer, he saw that familiar figure standing in front of him. He had never felt so far away from her before. He wished he could be in front of her in one step!
“Su Ying.”
Su Ying paused and turned around with a puzzled look. She saw a figure who was totally blackened standing not far away, looking at her.
A peculiar expression swept over Su Ying’s face. She stared at Xiao Jin in shock who dashed up to her almost in the blink of an eye.
“Xiao Jin… Oof!”
Before Su Ying could finish her sentence, she was swept up in a big bear hug.
Xiao Jin was almost suffocating her to death with his strong hug, making it almost impossible for her to breathe.
“Su Ying…”
“You let… let go…”
“Su Ying…”
“Let go…”
“Su Ying!”
Xiao Jin released her, held her face, and looked straight into her eyes.
When he saw his own reflection in her clear eyes, Xiao Jin could no longer suppress the emotions in his heart and kissed her slightly parted lips.
Gasp!
The dry, soft, sensation mixed with a strong odor of smoke made all the hair on her body stand on end.
Her heart was almost bursting out of her chest, but Su Ying’s mind was a complete blank.
She had never felt like this before. At that moment, she felt as if her soul had almost been sucked out of her body.
Su Ying suddenly snapped back to her senses and pushed Xiao Jin away. “Xiao Jin, have you gone mad from hunger? Are you trying to eat me?”
After being pushed away by Su Ying, Xiao Jin took a step back and stabilized his body. The emotions that had gushed out of his body also calmed down after being vented for a short while.
Xiao Jin looked at her look of disbelief and suddenly laughed, unable to suppress his joy. “Su Ying, I thought you were dead.”
Su Ying glared at him and resisted the urge to punch him in the head. “Well, sorry to disappoint you. I’m perfectly fine.”
She turned around and wiped the black marks off her lips. She took a few deep breaths before she managed to calm her wildly beating heart.
Su Ying suddenly thought of something and turned back to look at Xiao Jin. “You can walk now?” It was almost time for him to walk, but the longer he rested, the better his recovery results.
“Mm-hmm.”
“You don’t feel uncomfortable anywhere?”
Xiao Jin shook his head. “I feel fine.”
Su Ying nodded and turned around to deal with the people lying on the ground.
“What exactly is going on?” Xiao Jin asked.
Su Ying furrowed her brows. “Back then, I followed them up the slope and picked up many copper coins along the way. Then, I walked to the edge of the pit and someone found copper coins in the pit. Many people jumped in to dig like crazy. I thought the situation was not right, so I wanted to leave. To my surprise, the pit collapsed as soon as I turned back.”
“After that, someone poured oil into the pit and set it on fire.”
Xiao Jin’s sharp eyebrows furrowed. “Someone wants to burn all of you to death.”
Su Ying nodded. “I ran out before the fire started burning wildly.” That was the only thing she could say. Otherwise, she would have no chance of surviving in the pit at all when the big fire started.
“Since you’ve escaped, why didn’t you go back at once? Everyone has been looking for you like crazy these past two days.”
Su Ying didn’t know that. She had been in her interspatial store the whole time. She had only fled here in her protective suit after making sure that the fire had died down substantially.
“Then you go and tell them quickly that I’m safe and call them to come over.”
“We’ll go together.” Right now, Xiao Jin didn’t want to be separated from her for even a moment.
The wildfire was so big that even the wild animals were frightened off. These people should be fine even if they left for a while. Su Ying thought about it and agreed. “Alright. I’ll go with you to get people here.”
The two of them then went to look for help.
“Leader, bad news. The people from the Azure Dragon Base are attacking!”
Tiger Might’s face turned ominous when he heard that. He had been thinking about what was going on with the wildfire for the past two days. He had been here for so many years, and nothing had happened to the slope. There were not many houses around the slope, so how could a fire start without rhyme or reason? He had a hunch that the fire was related to the Azure Dragon Base.
“Son of a b.i.t.c.h! This time I’m going to make sure they don’t leave here alive!”
Tiger Might roared furiously. When he saw that the fire here was almost extinguished, he summoned his men to turn back on a killing spree.
“Big Brother, wait for me. I’ll go with you!” Qiao Yang gritted his teeth, stood up, and mounted his horse.
Tiger Might said with a grim face instead, “You stay here and look for Madam Su. Once you find her, tell me at once!” After he finished speaking, he spurred his horse forward and sped off.
“Big Brother! Big Brother!”
As Su Ying walked back, her face clouded over as she looked at the mountain slope that had been charred black.
“Li Yong said that the Azure Dragon Base gave them grain for free, and they even dug a pit to put the grain in there. Don’t you think it’s strange?” Su Ying suddenly recalled what Li Yong had told her. No matter how she thought about it, she felt that something was not quite right.
If they wanted to release the grain, then just do it. Why did they have to dig a pit?
However, at that time, everyone’s attention was focused on the grain, and this pit was overlooked.
A thought suddenly popped into Su Ying’s mind.. Did they intend to use this pit to bury her?
