CHAPTER V

The Book / Our Connection

"Your medicince is just on the table."

Clover is sick. So many weird things happen to me these past few days. The bracelet, Sade, the Book, and the Majes. And now, Clover. Ever since I met her, I haven’t seen her got sick, only now.

It's not usual to a Sceillian to get sick, though it's not that alarming, it's just new to me. The healers of the school said that it’s just a cold.

"Achoo! You're so early Cenedy, are you already leaving? Achoo!" Clover has been sneezing.

“Before I forget, have you ever heard of the book called The First Mistress?” Right, this is the question that's been bugging me since last night.

The surprise in her face is evident.

"Did you see that book?" She asks me back.

"It's one of the mysterious books here in the Academy. They say, that book is hard to find, and it only chooses the Sceillian who can read it. Jino said that it requires something in exchange to read the book." I was dumbfounded. It's really mysterious. What did that book want me to read?

“A book that has a mind of its own” I commented

"But of course that's just a hearsay here. Some books in the library are also like that. That's just a gimmick made by the writers so their book will be more of challenge to those who wants to read their works." She smiled.

She has a point. It's really not that weird. But why does Claude want to know if I have read it?

"Are you leaving now?" She ask me when she saw me walking.

"Yeah, they said that the Sveta and Gein has a joint cla.s.s today."

"What a spoof! Why did I got sick toay? I can't take a picture to the Majes." She pouted.

"Give me your camera." I comforted here.

"Really? You'll take pictures for me?" Happiness is written all over her face.

"Nah…I won't promise anything. I might forgot to bring it and leave it in the Cla.s.sroom." I told her.

"I wish that I'm the one in the Majes group. Why does it need to be that powerless girl?"

“Claude is so d.a.m.n handsome.”

“Look, guys, Aiden is smiling this way.”

“Qwertyuiiop Scape girl.” (TL: I think it's a curse.)

That's what I've been hearing from my cla.s.smates. As if I wanted this. If this is what going to happen, then I could have just stayed in my room.

The groupings are made by lottery and I guess Rhoanne made a twist so that I will be in their group.

And I notice that Victoria, the one that controls the ancient element of Lant (Land), is not here.

"Okay, cla.s.s. Here's the thing. You are going to enter inside the Dark and Light Maze. This is known for its dark side so cla.s.s, you need to be careful. If something strange happens just blow the whistle that we will give to you later. Understand?"

"Let's go!" Rhoanne is really cheerful, one of a kind.

Rhoanne and I are the ones walking ahead. Claude and Aiden are following us.

"Don't walk too fast, we must stay close together. It's the only place that the academy can't control so it's dangerous." Aiden scold us.

Rhoanne is pulling me, the way she do it is as if she knows where to go.

"Rhoanne you know–"

"Oh, My! Say that again." Her eyes widened looking at me.

"Huh? What do you mean?" I said to her.

"My name, it's the first time I heard you said it." She's facing me with a smile on her face, while holding both of my shoulders.

"Is that so?" My shy response.

“Can you please tell our names?” she asked me with pleading eyes. How can I refuse?

"You are Rhoanne." I pointed her.

"So amazing!" She said in enthusiasm.

"That's A…Aiden." I also pointed Aiden.

"Present!" He said while lifting both of his hands.

"And that's Claude." My voice somewhat weakened.

"What? I can't hear." I hear Claude suddenly said.

“I said your name is Claude!” I said pretty loudly. We're close, why can't he hear it?

"It's cute looking at the two of you," Rhoanne said with sparkling eyes.

I just ignore her and continue walking.

“Wait Cen—” the last word I heard from Aiden and everything went black. Our surrounding darkens and I almost see nothing.

"Ceny don't move," Rhoanne warns me.

Claude made a ball of fire, I can now see each one of us.

“Ross where are you?” Claude said in a serious tone.

"It's been a long time Majes and I see that you have a new friend." The man slowly appears out of a red smoke. He is wearing black clothes and the long scar on his neck is very visible.

"Leave her alone Ross," Aiden said in a serious tone.

"And what you said made me want to play her more." Then the man named Ross smile at me.

"Stop it, Ross." Rhoanne went in front, s.h.i.+elding me.

“That girl is a scape, I can smell it. Why Majes, is she a charity case?”

"Shut up!" Claude's ball of fire became bigger. He's so furious right now. Who is that man?

"I'm sorry but I'm so anxious to play with your new friend."

He draws his hand and released a red smoke. We are now surrounded by the red smoke.

I can't see a thing. I can only hear the sound of fighting.

Rhoanne also disappears in front of me. I'm really scared now. Then suddenly I saw Aiden's back facing me…

"Cen."

"Aiden!" I saw something hit him.

His shoulder is bleeding. He..he..he is injured because of me.

Why?

Why did he save me?

The smoke gradually disappears. The surrounding returned to normal.

I kneeled in front of him.

I'm mad at myself. Why can't I protect myself?

"Why?" I feel a tear fall from my eyes.

He just gives me a smile and his eyes were half open.

“C…ce..n.” And then lost his consciousness.

Rhoanne helps me to stand up. While her one hand is supporting me.

"Are you hurt Ceny?" Rhoanne ask me but I only nodded as an answer.

"He'll pay for this." Claude made a fist.

Aiden was sent to the hospital, so the healers can heal him.

“Why do you have to do that?”

"When have you interfered to what I do Claude?"

"You're not the type of person to do that, Aiden."

"What is your problem? It already happened."

"But that's my job."

"For you, it's a job but for me, it's not."

"Then why?"

"That's none of your business."

I am now outside of the room where Aiden was admitted after that incident.

I heard the voices of Aiden and Claude coming from inside. They are not shouting but I can feel the tension between them.

The room suddenly went silent and I hurriedly hid on the wall.

Claude came out from there and walk away. He's nowhere in sight.

Now I have to face Aiden.

"I know you're in there." I hear Aiden's voice from inside.

I sigh. So I just entered.

"How are you?" I don't know what to say after what happened.

"Aren't you giving me a hug or just a thank you?!" He changes the topic.

"Why?" I said in a soft voice.

Aiden face suddenly became serious.

"Why do you take the hit meant for me?" Why did he do it? Just for a person like me, he became hurt like that.

"I let you do what you want to happen. But I will not just stand there knowing that you're in danger." He's looking straight into my eyes now.

"Why? I left you. Why are you doing this?" I said crying. My tears won't stop how much I try.

He wipes my tears using his right thumb.

“Idiot… You know exactly the reason why I did that Cenedy.“

 

Little did they know, Claude is just on the window and completely heard what they are saying.

Who really are you Cenedy Aceil Holsden?

Is all in Claude's mind.
