Primordial Blood Throne: Book 1 Chapter 49 – Concealing
Edited by Owner
The tiger meat was skewered using a tree branch and was turning over the campfire, as the flame danced, the grease within the meat slowly oozed out and drips into the pile of fire, releasing an alluring aroma.
The taste of the Multicolored Tiger’s meat was very delicious but it’s texture was tough and hard to chew, feeling as though it were some dried waxy meat that has been wind dried for too many years. It’s fortunate that Origin Masters were a group of individuals with strong teeth, what’s important to them wasn’t the texture of the meat but the rich Origin Energy within Fiend Beasts. Eating the meat could increase their ability to absorb and convert Origin Energy, as well as their ability to utilize Origin Energy, an excellent supplement.
As heat will destroy the nutrition within the Fiend Beast meat, some Origin Masters may choose to eat the meat raw.
Although Su Chen and Zhang Yuan Kui couldn’t bring themselves to do the same but they also started eating when the meat was only just cooked.
Origin Masters were all gluttons and were able to eat a whole tiger, bear, or leopard in a serving. This was mostly due to the circulation of their absorption techniques that increased the speed at which they could absorb nutrients. After releasing the unwanted waste, they could continue to eat. However, if they met with a situation where there was a lack of food, they could enter hibernation and survive by absorbing the floating Origin Energies within the atmosphere.
This allowed them to efficiently use the available resources on hand, which also made every successful hunt, a very sumptuous and large meal.
“Here!” Zhang Yuan Kui removed a piece of roast from the rack and handed it to Su Chen.
“Thanks.” Su Chen received it, as he took a bite, his mouth was covered in grease, the scent permeating the air.
“So, the Fourth Young Master of the Su Family, how did you land yourself in Deer Red Mountain Range?” Zhang Yuan Kui asked.
“Deep Red Discipline.” Su Chen indifferently replied.
“Deep Red Discipline?” Zhang Yuan Kui was surprised: “What did you do to land yourself with a Deep Red Discipline?”
“Many things…I crippled a servant, beat up my aunt and even caused my cousin to stay in bed for ten days.”
Zhang Yuan Kui shuddered. “I never expected a blind man to be so vicious.”
“It’s precisely because I am blind that made me need to be vicious…attack the weak spot and never let go!” Su Chen smiled.
Zhang Yuan Kui was stupefied before he laughed out loud. “Nice, that was well said. I just happen to have some wine with me, let us brothers have a drink.”
As he said so, he retrieved two cups and a wine flagon from his bag.
He poured Su Chen a cup before giving one himself , saying: “Come, cheers, a toast to our meeting. It is fate that we were able to meet in this desolated place!”
Su Chen took a sip.
The wine was very strong, burning his throat as he drank.
“How is it, strong enough?” Zhang Yuan Kui laughed and downed his drink in one shot before he poured himself another.
“I am still unable to get use to strong wine.” Su Chen shook his head as he put down his cup: “Elder Brother Zhang, what brings you here to the Deep Red Mountain Range?”
“Someone discovered a Star Silver Ore within Jade Valley. There’s speculation that there might be a Star Silver Ore Vein in that vicinity. I am going there to test my luck.” Zhang Yuan Kui nonchalantly replied.
“Star Silver
Ore?” Su Chen was surprised for a moment.
Star Silver was a type of rare metal that was often used by Origin Masters. It was a good conductor of Origin Energy which could be used to make Origin Armaments, Origin Energy products, or even a.s.sist in cultivation.
Star Silver normally did not appear alone though. If there was a discovery, it normally meant that a mining vein exists nearby.
Based on Zhang Yuan Kui’s information, the person who discovered the Star Silver Ore within Jade Valley was an ordinary hunter, as he didn’t know the preciousness of Star Silver. Taking it to sell was probably purely because he found the ore pretty, therefore he also did not keep his discovery a secret. Once news had spread, many people speculated that there might be a Star Silver Ore Vein within Jade Valley and swarmed towards that place in the hopes of getting rich.
Zhang Yuan Kui was also the same, after obtaining this news, he quickly entered the Deep Red Mountain Range, hoping to earn the first pot of gold in his life.
Although Origin Masters who could produce Origin Stones shouldn’t have a shortage of money, but on the flip side, the huge costs of cultivation had caused them to need more money than anyone else. In addition, producing Origin Stones would also impeded cultivation. After a year of effort, you would only get three to four hundred Origin Stones, how could that be enough? Therefore, Origin Masters who had an undying thirst for wealth would naturally grab hold of whatever opportunity they can.
Jade Valley’s Star Silver Vein had thus obviously become a good opportunity.
“This is also why I am telling you this. Although Jade Valley is an ownerless territory where everyone could mine in, but it was also because that it is an ownerless territory that there’s no laws or rules, the conflicts within will also happen more often.”
Su Chen did not take his words to heart and simply replied with a “Orh” before he continued to feast on the meat.
“Not interested?” Zhang Yuan Kui was surprised. “This is Star Silver, a small piece is worth tens even hundreds of Origin Stones!”
“Yet you need to mine it, right?” Su Chen replied. “I prefer to stay within the forest and battle Fiend Beasts, eat their flesh and blood, harvest their skin, train my body, increase my own experience and not rely on luck to mine for ores.”
“That would be too slow!” Zhang Yuan Kui sighed. “A person won’t get rich without a sudden windfall!”
“So that’s your life motto?” Su Chen smiled. “Excuse my frankness but I beg to differ. Oh right, where’s the spice container? Can you retrieve it for me? I wish to spread some onto my meat.”
Zhang Yuan Kui turned to looked for it while mumbling. “Strange, it was here earlier, where is it now?”
Zhang Yuan Kui looked around but was unable to find it.
“If you are unable to find it then never mind, I was about to have my fill anyway.”
“You are leaving?”
“Yes.”
“If that’s the case, the let’s have one last toast before we part ways.” Zhang Yuan Kui lifted his cup.
Su Chen also lifted his cup and heavily knocked it with Zhang Yuan Kui’s cup, they both of them downed the wine in one shot.
After drinking the wine, Zhang Yuan Kui tossed away his cup and said, “Su Chen, a person like you…although you possess a disability, you are tenacious. Despite not being able to see, you dared to venture the Deep Red Mountain Range alone. I am very impressed.”
Su Chen silently listened to him, not replying a single word.
Zhang Yuan Kui continued. “However it’s a pity, although you have the resolve and willpower but you are after all, still too young and naïve, not experienced with the ways of the world.”
Su Chen replied with a calm expression. “Big Brother Zhang, what are you trying to say?”
Zhang Yuan Kui chuckle.: “You should give it a try, see if you can manipulate your Origin Energy?”
Su Chen lowered his head, using his blind eyes to look at the cup. “You added something inside the wine? Why?”
“For what other reason?” Zhang Yuan Kui shrugged. “Due to your Origin Armaments of course. That’s a large sum of money that allows a blind man like you to walk in this forest safely, how could I not be tempted?”
“So you decided to harm me? At your savior?”
Zhang Yuan Kui laughed loudly into the sky and drew his Green Scale Blade. “True, you did save me but so what? After killing you, who will know? I had already reminded you before, you won’t get rich without a sudden windfall. An ownerless territory, with no constraints due to laws or morals, a person’s evil intentions will be greatly magnified. Yet you are too naïve and did not notice it, how could you blame me?”
As Zhang Yuan Kui spoke, his face was already filled with a murderous aura. “A blind man holding on to Origin Armaments is like a child holding on to gold while making noises in a busy market, not knowing how to conceal it. How would it not attract danger to you? Since you are going to die sooner or later, rather than allowing someone else take them away, why not let me have them instead?!”
As he spoke, he had already slashed down towards Su Chen’s head.
This attack was very vicious and very ferocious, without any hint of holding back.
But as he took a step, he discovered that he was unable to manipulate his Origin Energy, his whole body felt empty and a sense of weakness.
“Origin Obstructing Powder?” Zhang Yuan Kui was so shocked that his soul nearly scattered on the spot.
The Origin Obstructing Powder was supposed to be inside Su Chen’s stomach, when did he consume it?
At the same time, Su Chen already threw an energy filled fist on Zhang Yuan Kui’s face, causing him to fly backwards.
“You aren’t poisoned…you switched the wine!” Zhang Yuan Kui shouted in fear.
Su Chen walked towards him slowly, his approaching figure brought great stress into Zhang Yuan Kui’s heart.
“When I asked you for the spices, I swapped it.” Su Chen replied.
“You were guarded against me?” Zhang Yuan Kui was greatly surprised.
“To be exact, I had not believed you since the moment we met.” Su Chen indifferently replied.
“Why? I don’t understand.” Zhang Yuan Kui laid on the ground, although it looks like he had given up but his eyes were looking everywhere.
Su Chen didn’t react to him and continued. “It’s because you do not know how to be grateful. When I killed the Multicolored Tiger and returned, I did tell you that if you need my help, I will only want half of the tiger. Do you remember your answer?”
“There’s no need.” Zhang Yuan Kui blankly replied.
“Exactly, there’s no need.” Su Chen smiled. “Don’t you think you are being too greedy? I am after all, the person who just saved your life, yet you weren’t even willing to share half of the tiger. If I happen to save a person with a bit of grat.i.tude, a standard answer should be, ‘you saved me, this should all be yours’ or something like that, right?”
Zhang Yuan Kui was stupefied and was unable to speak.
However, on his left hand, there was suddenly three purplish black darts and from the looks of it, one will know that they were poison darts.
“Of course, what I am concerned about wasn’t that tiger but what it represented. Without a heart of grat.i.tude, it wouldn’t be surprising if such a person did things that were both crazed and cruel.”
“So that’s the case.” Zhang Yuan Kui smiled bitterly. “I am indeed a b.a.s.t.a.r.d who had no heart of grat.i.tude, no wonder a blind man like you could see through me. However…”
As Zhang Yuan Kui dragged his last word, his tone suddenly turned vicious. “That doesn’t mean you have won!”
Swis.h.!.+
Three poison darts were already flying towards Su Chen aiming at different locations.
This attack was quick, the angle of attack was also very weird. It was obviously a skill that Zhang Yuan Kui had spent great efforts to master.
The moment when the poison darts shot out, Su Chen’s boots glowed, his body already flew away like smoke, evading one dart, and half way during mid air he twisted his body and evade another dart. As he was unable to evade the last dart, Su Chen immediately turned his body and faced it with his back, a Purple Crystal Spell Barrier lit out, protecting him from the last attack, reflecting it onto the ground.
Seeing the scene had caused Zhang Yuan Kui to fall into despair, that was definitely not something a blind man can do.
He suddenly realized something and shouted. “You are not blind! You are not blind!”
As he coldly glared at Zhang Yuan Kui, the corners of Su Chen’s mouth lifted as he mocked.
“Four years ago, I met an old man. He told me that I was too sharp and stood out too much, telling me that I do not know the value of concealing and keeping a low profile, therefore, he helped to change my eyes. On top of allowing me to see more things, they would also let me to see the truth of this world. From that day onward, I have understood what concealing is, what keeping a low profile meant…have a good journey!”
“No!!!”
Zhang Yuan Kui’s cried in despair as a battle blade slashed down.
