Chapter 23 Knowing the Truth

At this moment, Ye did not take them serious. He howled as he pushed out his White Cloud Knife. After a while, dozens of soldiers of Guju died under his knife. He released two thunder snakes to kill the rest.

Guju panicked. He never guessed that Ye had this strong power. He saw Ye rus.h.i.+ng toward him, with his eyes full of killing intention, and his clothing wet with cold sweat. He put his palms together, and a faint light released from his eyes, aiming right at Ye.

Ye felt sleepy when he saw the light, like he was drunk. In a daze, he heard a persuading voice saying, “You are sleepy, sleepy . . . just sleep now.” The voice was so seductive that he followed the voice, and said, “Yeah, I am sleepy. . . I want to sleep. . .” His body became soft, and then he fell to the ground.

Guju sneered at him. He took a blade from the ground, and walked closer to him. “You stinky boy. You are so powerful, and even you can’t withstand my Spirit Inspecting Skill.” Saying this, he raised the blade to chop on Ye’s neck.

All of a sudden, a stream of purple ran out from Ye’s body and it become a six-claw spider. He waved the fore-claw and swept away Guju’s blade. During the strange sensation, Ye felt the special strength flowing in his body. Soon he was awake and opened his eyes. He saw himself standing on the spider’s back. Guju was afraid to retreat. He didn’t think too much, and by reflex, he guided the spider to stab at Guju. Guju didn’t escape from the spider’s two fore-claws, and his chest was pieced by them.

Now in the hall, there was only Canyi left. He was standing there, out of his mind. A little later, the sound of some footsteps was heard, and Lotus came in. Canyi saw her adornment, and smiled, saying, “The adage says that the bride should not take off the head cover before marriage. It is an unlucky sign to the bridegroom.”

Lotus looked around and asked with surprise, “What happened?”

Canyi replied, “Black Finger led the army out to fight some invaders. I got a feeling that today is a special day.”

When they were talking, the Tower crashed to the ground in a thunderous noise. And the whole city shook for several minutes. It was as horrible as if the end of ages had come. With the falling of the Tower, they saw the sky, which was clean and blue, but just now turned windy and dust blew everywhere.

Canyi ran for the window to take a look. When he saw the falling Tower, he was shocked.

Lotus smiled a little. “You are right! Today, something is going to happen.”

“What is it?” Canyi asked her with surprise.

“Canyi, give up your thoughts of taking back control of the Cave. Leave with me. The Heart of Breaking was stolen by Bilin. Without its protection, the righteous clans will find the city and destroy it. The buildings by Black Finger will vanish today, and I have my revenge. Let’s save Ye and leave, okay? You said you love me.”

Canyi laughed hopelessly. “Lotus, don’t you feel pity? You have destroyed the city of a thousand years. If you can bear some time more, we can take back everything, including this city. I can be the leader of the Cave. However, my plan of so many years has turned to vain in one day.”

Lotus’s body began to tremble. “Canyi, don’t you love me? You said I am the most important thing to you, didn’t you? Was that only a lie?”

Canyi smiled with bitterness. “Talking about this is meaningless now. Lotus, I love indeed. But for a man, a career and success were more important. I dreamed of having this under-city from childhood. I dreamed of taking your arms to walk through this city with you, as all the people bow to show their obedience. This has been my dream for so many years, and you destroyed it. Where can I find it again?”

Lotus’s eyes were full of tears. She shook her head and said, “Don’t you know my dream? My dream is always to be with you. No matter if there were servants bowing down to welcome us, or a big career. I just want to be with you forever. In a boat on a lake, or riding horses to run on gra.s.s. Travel every corner in the world.”

“This can’t be true!” a voice cried out aloud, surprising both of them.

They saw Ye standing at the door.

Lotus became happy and she asked, “Ye, Bilin rescued you out finally?”

Ye walked toward Lotus slowly, with his steps as heavy as lead. “Lotus, this is not the truth! Those words you said can’t be true! Tell me, right?”
