Chapter 18 - Son of the Divine Dragon

The moonlight was bright and the forest was gloomy. The young people encircled a handsome young man who roasted meat. As both of his hands flipped the meat over, the delicious smell of roast meat permeated the whole area, and Lin Haoxue and Shen Molian joined the barbecue.

"Here," that young man cut the roasted sheep leg into two pieces with his dagger and gave them to Lin Haoxue and Shen Molian. His smile was radiant and his tone gentle, "Just roasted it, try it."

"Thank you, big brother." Lin Haoxue accepted the sheep leg and took a big bite. Tasting it, her face lit up, and she said, "It's so good!" At the same time, she used her elbow to hit Shen Molian.

"Thank you, it's good." Shen Molian ate slowly but still praised him for his cooking skill.

"Haha, the two of you really are forthright. I, Moxuan, knew that my judgment of you guys wasn't wrong," the young lord laughed out loud then divided the rest of the roast demon sheep to all the other members of Violent Snow. Afterwards, he took out the wine he brought and divided it up amongst Lin Haoxue and other mercenaries. Having meat and wine livened up the atmosphere in a flash.

This young lord of the Violent Snow mercenary group was straightforward and pa.s.sionate just like the disposition of the group. This characteristic gave Lin Haoxue a good impression so they soon became close to these mercenaries and got along well.

Just when they were having fun drinking and eating, a light cry was heard from the depths of the forest. It sounded like the cry was filled with grief and it was quite shocking to hear.
"Not good," the middle-aged man with a curly beard looked panicked. In a stern voice, he told everyone, "That is a summoning of spirit beasts. Extinguish the fire, quick!"

All the other mercenaries heard him then quickly stepped on the flame to extinguish it so they didn't attract those gathering spirit beasts.

The sound from the depths of the forest was getting more and more mournful as if it were suffering a huge pain. In the forest, all the spirit and demon beasts started running toward the depth of the forest. This fanatical behavior made it seem as if they were going to wors.h.i.+p or running to offer their lives as a sacrifice to whatever was calling out to them.

Many cultivators who weren't able to dodge the beasts in time were trampled under foot and lost their lives in a flash. Seeing all the people around her looking nervous, Lin Haoxue faintly felt that this groaning sound seemed familiar, but she didn't dare say anything.

"f.u.c.k, there is a horde of spirit beasts running toward the depths of the forest. We can't deal with them; let's retreat!" The Young Lord Moxuan spoke in a stern voice.

"Ok. We'll listen to your order. All members of Violent Snow get ready immediately, we're getting out of here." That Uncle Ran who had the most powerful strength seemed to be abnormally respectful about what Moxuan said.

At the same time, some other mercenary groups from inside the Demon Beast Forest all chose to quickly retreat as well.
"It's too late," Shen Molian sighed.All the others were getting ready to leave and were anxious, so only Lin Haoxue heard what she said while sighing. When she looked at Shen Molian, there was indescribable sadness on her face. This confused and also terrified her since Shen Molian looked like as if she knew something.

As expected, in a short while more and more small mercenary groups were trampled to death by the out of control spirit beasts, and they immediately turned into smashed flesh. Quickly, the smell of blood rapidly spread and the entire forest was filled with the smell of death."The two of you, don't leave my side," Moxuan looked serious. He didn't take out any weapons; instead, he kept moving his hands rapidly forming incantation seals, and soon they all blended into the air around them. It turned out that he was an incantation master.

"Thanks for brother Mo's kindness, but we can protect ourselves," Lin Haoxue and Shen Molian spoke in unison. While they spoke, they took out their weapons. Both of their weapons were short, small daggers which complemented one another as one was white and the other black. Then they jumped into the horde of stampeding demon beasts.

"So stubborn," Moxuan smiled, but he actually admired them more now. He didn't have much time to think about this as he kept forming seals so the could summon a barrier to protect everyone in Violent Snow.

Now Lin Haoxue and Shen Molian were traveling back and forth through the horde of spirit and demon beasts. They rushed into the horde like a tiger running into a group of sheep and even though their weapons were small, they were quite fatal. Not only did demon beasts fall to them but so did spirit beasts! None could escape from their cooperation. One hunted and killed, while the other took their cores. They were quick and had an amazing mutual understanding of one another.
The members of Violent Snow stared at the two of them killing those beasts and were so astonished that their mouths were wide enough to fit an egg inside."Stop staring! I knew from the beginning that they were remarkable. Everyone form up and come back," Moxuan was still forming seals while talking and then the last incantation mark was formed.

Suddenly, a rumbling sound was heard.

After setting up the formation, an amazing energy wave appeared which frightened many of the spirit beasts, and this formation protected all the members of Violent Snow.

"They… They are still out there," a young man said while looking at Lin Haoxue and Shen Molian, and he almost rushed out to help them.

"It's too late," a big hand pulled him back inside the protection of the formation.

All these people were staring at two who were fighting inside the dense horde of spirit beasts.

"You guys stay here, I'll go get them," Moxuan stepped out of the formation and rushed towards them.
Suddenly, the moon seemed to cover the sky and the earth turned dark. Moxuan raised his head and saw a huge monster occupying half of the sky. The horde of beasts became agitated and more beasts started gathering.
Someone yelled out loud, "The son of the Divine Dragon!"
"The Divine Dragon's son really appeared?"

Everyone raised their head to look at the sky and see what kind of beast was able to light the entire sky a flame. Now the night sky was as bright as daytime, and everyone could clearly see that in the sky there was a blazing dragon. This was the son of the Divine Dragon, the beast that everyone was here for.

But what about it? This was an existence that exceeded a Mythic tier spirit beast! Was this something that these people could long for? Just its powerful aura alone could crush them to death.
"Is it really the Divine Dragon's son? Lin Haoxue looked at the enormous beast in the sky which had antlers, a snake-shaped body, eagle claws, and tiger-like eyes. It looked overbearing and imposing, and its aura was truly frightening. She was a little surprised, but still had a baffling familiar feeling towards it.

"Its powerful aura is too strong; this kind of existence isn't something we can gaze at. Let's go." A rare and serious expression was present on Shen Molian's face.

"Alright, let's retreat," Lin Haoxue knew that since even the Profound Spirit realm cultivators here couldn't protect themselves, it was obvious that this fire dragon wasn't something she could long for. Now her only thought was to escape.

But when she was about to turn around, she noticed that the ma.s.sive fire dragon in the sky turned to look at them. In its eyes, there was an almost surprised look. Even though he was far away, she was sure that she wasn't wrong about what she saw.

"He seems to be looking at us? Lin Haoxue said.

"Stop thinking about useless things; let's go," Shen Molian urged her.

However, just when she was about to retreat, she noticed the fire dragon spew out a flame in their direction... Could it be that he was attacking them?

"Get out of the way!" On instinct, Lin Haoxue used all her strength to push Shen Molian a few meters away into Moxuan's formation then she was surrounded by a ball of flame.

She felt that she was being pulled by a force, and she really wanted to know what was going on. But inside the flame, she wasn't even able to open her eyes.

When she turned around to look for Lin Haoxue, Shen Molian suddenly realized what had just happened.

"Haoxue!" She shouted out full of grief and heartbroken. Since there was no way that she could help her. Lin Haoxue was engulfed in flames, and now she would never know if she was alive or dead. Ever since she had once been betrayed by her teammate, she never again trusted anyone. Therefore, even though she had been getting along with Lin Haoxue for a while, she was still on guard against her most of the time. However, Lin Haoxue's behavior showed her that a human's heart could still be warm.
"The fire dragon is gone."
"The beast horde has scattered."
"Awesome! We all survived."Shen Molian didn't care about what the others were talking about, she just kept walking towards the direction where the fire dragon had disappeared. She only had one thought in her mind that no matter how dangerous it would be, she would definitely find her friend. She thought, 'You are the person I choose to make friends with so even if I have to die, I'll save you!'
