LEFT!

I sent out the thought quickly as I dodged backwards.

Ella's head s.h.i.+fted slightly before she dived to the left. Where she had just been standing a prowler suddenly appeared, claws gleaming.

s.h.i.+fting my attention back onto the prowler that was in front of me I once again checked its status.

Name: N/A

Race: Prowler

s.e.x: Female

Age: 5

Level: 10

Attributes:

STR: 50

END: 43

INT: 23

AGI: 52

SPR: 9

Skills:

Evolution (Innate) LV(Special Conditions) – User has been prompted into a state of growth and evolution increasing natural predator ability's and attributes. Leads to growth in all aspects.

Stalk (Innate) LV( Special Conditions) – User is adept at stalking prey and following them. When following prey they are quiet and hard to find. Only when they attack are the out in the open and can be felt.

My aura locked onto the beast in front of me, to slow it down, as I dodged to the side again. The prowler that had lunged at me turned quick to attack again, I knew I wouldn't be able to beat it in speed, even with my aura locking it down.

I lowered my center of gravity to prepare for another quick attack and watched its claws, the last time one of them had got the jump on me, it wasn't good.

Its paw came in a swinging motion from the left and I leaned back to avoid it, my eyes could barely keep up but I could see the blood that tinged the sharp claws. After dodging the swing I tried to counter attack and swung my blade at the extended claw.

*Dang*

The sound of metal hitting metal came out as my blade only left a shallow cut on the paw. The force shook my arm, but I was prepared for it and used it to rebound backwards. As I move back the other paw of the beast flashed past where I had been standing.

I back off again and stared down my opponent.

*Roar!*

I didn't let my attention s.h.i.+ft, but knew that Ella was dealing with the other opponent.

I dived to the right and s.h.i.+fted my body behind a tree that was in the way. Just as I moved around it a huge shaking went through the tree and a slight cracking sound could be heard. The tree shook and leaves fell down, as I dashed back out and towards the prowler.

They weren't the smartest even with the increase INT, it had dived towards me when I had dashed and hit the tree head on. In its dazed state I quickly ran around it and jumped on its back. I grabbed on tight and locked my arms around its throat. I let my blade slip and fall to the ground; I knew it couldn't do any damage.

The prowler bucked around and started jumping all over trying to shake me off. Holding on tight, I gritted my teeth for what I had to do next. I b.l.o.o.d.y hated doing it though.

Baring my teeth and using all my strength, I started to tear into the back of its neck with my teeth. Blood exploded out and covered my face as my teeth easily went through its skin. It started to thrash about more but I wouldn't let go. I pulled my head back and spat out the piece I had just gouged out.

After gulping for air, I once again went in for a bite and continued to do this as its resistance started to falter. Finally after a minute of struggling the prowler finally dropped to the ground dead and a globe appeared next to it.

I breathed a sigh of relief and looked in the direction of Ella. She was standing with 2 prowlers on the ground dead. She floated me a smile before picking up the globes and pocketing them. After that was done, she went and moved the 2 dead bodies over to my 1.

She gave me a wider smile as I finally got up and said.

"Dinner!"

I could only nod at her excited mood, before going to retrieve my blade. I picked it up and then went to get some wood. Which was essentially me cutting into the trees that surrounded us. I soon had a pile in front of me that could be used to start the fire and pulled out a small lighter from my storage ring. Thank G.o.d for these things, or I would have had serious trouble starting a fire.

Giving it a slight click, the fire started up. I went around the edge of the wood pile and used ice to create a small circle. With this the fire wouldn't be able to spread out and start a forest fire. I know it didn't seem like it made any sense, but any flame that came into contact with the ring would be extinguished, even the embers that would scatter out.

I would be able to put them out with little effort, though it would drain me quickly. I picked up my blade that was to the side and then started to skin the prowler the best I could.

I wasn't good at it and the blade did little cutting through the skin, but I made due. It took me a while to properly get a few pieces that I could eat. Once I got a few pieces I stabbed them onto a spare sword and held it over the flames.

If I was to do such a thing before I got the evolution system, my arm might have become stiff from holding it for so long, but now I could hold it there until the meat was properly cooked.

I was sure that with imperial growth even if I ate the meat raw, I wouldn't become sick, but for my own solace I insisted on roasting the meat. By the time the meat was finally cooked, I looked over to the side to see Ella was finished with their bodies. She ate everything from the beast that I had left.

Even though she had eaten all that, she happily came up to the meat that was cooked and ate a few pieces. A look of bliss pa.s.sed across her faced as the cooked meat was swallowed, I looked on from the side before looking down at the piece in my hands.

Ella now loved to eat cooked meat, probably because that was how I ate them.

I started to dig in, the small roars of the beasts that infested the forest were the only sound as me and Ella continued to eat.

It had been 2 days since we had left the town and come to the mountains, it took almost a full day to reach the mountain and get into the forest that populated the slopes. It had been a harder trek than expected to get through the zombies getting here.

By the time we finally reached the forest, the zombies that we ran into were level 9 only, there were no lower levels. Because we had made it to level 10 we hadn't had too much of a problem killing 1 or 2, but when the groups reached 6 or more, it was a struggle.

When we reached the mountain we had almost reached level 11, the only bad thing was the amount of gear that we had acquired from the dead zombies, it was too much, and we had to leave behind what we couldn't carry.

None of the enhanced combat gear had surfaced and I suspected that it wouldn't until the level 10 zombies showed up, I was right about that.

The forest was huge.

And I didn't mean in diameter, I had been to the mountains before with my family for a camping trip and the trees that populated it were tall and big. But when I had reached the forest after the apocalypse the trees had nearly tripled in size and height. I was genuinely shocked as I saw them tower above us, that d.a.m.n G.o.d must have increased them for some reason.

Deciding that it wasn't a good idea to go in without a break, we had rested for a while before we actually went in.

And that was when the troubles truly started.

Once we entered the forest the trees that had grown to ridiculous sizes, instantly blotted out the sun and leaving the area in a dark state. The slight light that got through barely illuminated anything and my eyes couldn't adjust well.

That wasn't the only problem as the amount of beast multiplied. The zombies that littered about the city were nonexistent in the forest and instead beasts were abundant.

It didn't take long for me and Ella to run into the prowlers, one that I was now roasting. They were partially bigger than the cat type beasts that I had seen before and a lot more powerful. Having reached level 10 they had evolved into such creatures and were cla.s.sified as prowlers instead of beasts.

The first time we had met them was the toughest fight. It was a fatal mistake to believe that my swift blade would be able to cut through their tough hides and one that I almost paid for with my life. I had gone in for the kill after one of them pounced, but to my dismay at the time, the force that had rebounded into my hand had forced me to drop my weapon.

It was a close call from then, as the beast had then tackled me to the ground. Its weight was immeasurable and I couldn't move from under its grip. Its claws had punctured into my body and held me down tightly, its teeth coming in for the kill.

Thankfully Ella had been able to come and hit it in the side of the head; it had given me enough time in my desperation to bite into its front paw. My teeth had sunk through the skin, much to my joy and the pain had forced it to relieve some of the pressure.

Within that small gap I had propelled myself upwards and taken a chunk out of the prowler's throat. In its death throes the weight behind its thras.h.i.+ng had left me winded and heavily injured. The injuries that I suffered had left me unconscious for a few minutes, before I was roused from that state by Ella who was crying over me.

It was because of this incident that I had steeled my resolve and finally ate one of the prowlers. Starting a fire and cutting out all the meat I could, I forced myself to eat the beast that had almost killed me.

I was fine thanks to regeneration, but my powerlessness and helplessness in the situation had rammed home how dangerous the mountains would be.

The meat wasn't the best and the smell of blood still hung in the air as I chowed down.

After that I had decided to eat every beast that we killed, whether I was full or not, I needed to become stronger. Of course that only lasted for a day, before it was untenable. I couldn't eat everything that we killed, but I would eat them for breakfast, lunch and tea.

It had showed results in the short amount of time that I had started, as my status had increased and I was closing in on Ella. I still had a while to go, but given enough time I wouldn't be in such a situation again.

Ella had found a new hatred for beasts after that day and any that we ran into would be mercilessly killed. She wouldn't rip them apart or go too far, as she knew I would eat them. But she did treat them brutally before they died.

Sometimes she would kick them repeatedly before they died, I didn't stop her from doing such practices.

All the beasts in the forest were level 10 and had evolved to the next stage. Other than the prowlers, there were also Wolves, and Predators.

The Wolves were the evolution of dogs and anything that shared the same species from what I could tell. That would include wolves and canine species, but I wasn't completely sure on that a.s.sumption.

The predators were the evolution of birds. I had only run into one of them so far, but it had been dangerous as that monster could fly and was hard to kill.

We only managed to kill it, when it had swooped down to attack us. There of course would be more out their but I hadn't run across them so far.

One of the most troubling things was the camping at night. The amount of sleep that I required each day seemed to lessen as I became more powerful, with my body not needing it as much. But with the amount of beasts roaming around at night, I had trouble closing my eyes.

In the end even though it pained me to have Ella do it, I set up a night s.h.i.+ft. As our bodies only needed about 4 hours of sleep each day right now, I would have Ella sleep first for 4 hours, followed by me. That way we were able to pa.s.s the nights.

The amount of Exp the level 10 beasts gave was 5000 which sped up our leveling tremendously. We had already reached level 11 and were close to level 12. The globes dropped by them also contained enhanced combat gear and I was able to get a set together for both me and Ella. I personally wished that they would drop a better weapon, as I could only use my teeth right now to kill them, but luck was not on my side.

My mind finally stopped wondering as I concentrated back on the meal in front of me. I had no clue when we would finally see what that gold light had dropped off. I had no clue if it had actually done something up here. If it wasn't for the insane amount of exp we were getting it might not have been worth it to come up here.

The constant tension and near death experiences weren't very fun.

I felt a nudge to my side as Ella poked me in the arm. I s.h.i.+fted my view over and saw her handing me another piece of meat. She had a very happy expression on her face as she handed it over to me and then watched intently as I started to eat.

The final thing that had happened since I had come to the mountains was the fact that imprint had leveled up twice. I was surprised how fast it rose since we came here. It had first risen after the fight with the prowler when I had woken up, I hadn't noticed it at the time but I was sure that was when that happened.

Then it went up again when I finally started to eat beasts. I guess she felt closer to me now that I was eating the same food as her. It was probably one of the reasons she didn't brutalize the bodies of the beasts more.

Though with the increase to level 8 nothing much had actually changed, none of the abilities had evolved and instead the power of the skills had increase. The telepathic ability had become stronger and I could feel her thoughts better. I hadn't separated far from Ella since then, but I would bet that I could find her from a longer distance.

*Crack*

Just as we were about to finish our meal and put the fire out a sound rung out behind me, my body sprang upwards and rotated towards the direction, it wasn't the first time a beast had attacked us when we were eating. I picked up my blade and prepared myself.

"Liam?"
